The PESGaming Top Games of All Time List (2012)

IronCity

Banned
I did have an Atari game in my top 10 single player games but when we combined them it missed out. Operation Stealth, doubt anyone here played it/enjoyed it.

Unless I've made a mistake, someone else had SimCity 2000 in their list, 10th in there's. Who was that man?

Sim City was me. first pc game I got hooked into.

I looked up Operation Stealth out of interest - that was actually an Atari ST game, not 2600. The 2600 really was a console of legend. After all it was the first primate in the evolutionary chain. Maze Craze for the 2600 is one I didn't but should have added.

I was surprised there weren't any votes other than mine for any of the Spectrum classics, but then aside from fick, Iron and myself, you're all nippers. Treasure Island Dizzy on the Sinclair128k was one of life's wee pleasures in 1988.

Dizzy was a great game, but I never managed to finish it as I didn't actually own it, one fay i'll go back to it.

My 10 Honorable mentions:

Illusion of Time
Terranigma
Super Mario World
Super Metroid
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Skies of Arcadia
Zelda: Wind Waker
Final Fantasy VII:Crisis Core
Nier
Saints Row III

Got to catch them all Jonno!!!

Roll your eyes at someone else bro...

Surprised Zelda: Ocarina of Time didn't make the any lists. Never played it, but heard so many great things about it.

Super Mario World not making any lists is sad. I loved that game, but I had to go with Mario Bros. 3.

Back in 1998 it was an amazing experience, but nowadays for me it isn't even the best Zelda title, it's probably 5th or so.

ALTTP gets my vote as the "best" Zelda game for overall quality, followed by Majoras Mask. However, my "favourite" is Wind Waker, but there are plenty of flaws that stop it from being the best....

I went with Mario 64, to this day it still is an amazing game, I started playing it recently on my exes sons DS, was still brilliant. If I actually finished Mario Galaxy, that would probably get the nod, but I only got half way through.

A few years ago I played through Mario 64 on my nephew's DS too

A great game for sure. But I just loved Mario Bros. 3 too much to not select it.

My top 10 list:

1. Pro Evolution Soccer 3
2. Pro Evolution Soccer 1
3. Championship Manager 2000/2001
4. Tetris
5. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4
6. NBA 2k12
7. Gran Turismo 1
8. Gears of War 1
9. Call of Duty: 4 Modern Warfare
10. WWF Attitude

To be honest, I'm not the biggest gamer and there have been so many 'top' games that I've never even played.

Never played NBA Jam; i'm going to look at this list, and for games I have never tried, i'm going to try and play them.

Same for everyone I think Joel, some real gems that I was gutted to have to leave out. I've done/am working a couple of personal top 100s, and this could very well be one I'll do in the future.

But I'll walk anyone who gives a shit through mine...

10. SimCity 2000 PC, 1995
Feeding the same control freak part of my personality that my number one does, this was a must have for the PC in the mid to late 90s. Absolute classic.

9. WWF No Mercy N64, 2000
There HAD to be a wrestling game on the list, and this is still the king. Graphically rubbish by today's standards, but still feels more like wrestling than any modern game. Please AKI, make a HD wrestling game.

8. Donkey Kong Country SNES, 1994
Better than any of the 2D mario games. There, I said it. Just when the SNES was about to be booted out by the 32 bit stuff, this showed the old grey box could still compete. The first time I completed was the greatest joy I've ever felt.

7. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Megadrive, 1992
The standout best of the Sonic games, imo. Some lovely levels, crisper, faster gameplay and a FUCKING EVIL final boss.

6. Pro Evolution Soccer 6 PC, 2006
This is a PES fansite for Christ's sake. If PES doesn't appear on your list, GTFO. Most people will agree that 6 was, and still is with a decent OF, the dog's. Winning the treble on Master League made me cry.

5. Super Mario 64 N64, 1997
To consider it was a launch title for the 64, it was absolutely bang on. Looked breathtaking for the time, nice sounds, stunning gameplay and some really good level design. Throwing the baby penguin to it's death never gets old. One for the ages.

4. Grand Theft Auto III PS2, 2001
Had to represent the series, and this got my vote because it was the most innovative. The jump from 2D to 3D is a risky one for any series, and this took it beautifully. Rememer spending whole weekends with the boys rinsing single player, everyone bright eyed around the telly, and you were genuinely excited when it was your turn.

3. The Legend of Zelda : A Link to the Past SNES, 1992
This was the moment at which Jonno orgasmed while reading my message. I got it as a double pack with Final Fantasy Mistic Quest, which was also a great game, but it's no shame to say it was shadowed by this. I remember being a 9 or 10 year old kid having heart in the mouth moments a plenty with this game, and it's one I can happily play again any time now on an emulator. Genius.

2. Goldeneye 007 N64, 1997
Unless you were a total nerd, this essentially invented multiplayer gaming. MOH, COD, whatever. They owe it all to this. The single player campaign is awesome too. Anyone who hasn't played it, I can't decide if I feel pity or hatred for you.

1. Sid Meier's Civilization PC, 1991
To this day, and I do mean literally, I still play this. Yes, the series has matured, improved and expanded but it all comes back to this. If you took out the hours I've spent playing this and put them back on me, I'd probably only be about 18. There's nothing quite like it, from the epic opening theme (best enjoyed with IBM sounds) to the moment where you've just won that colossal war. Open ended games were always more fun for me, and this is the ultimate in that. I'ma let you finish, but this is the best video game of all time!

Of all time!

Nice breakdown there son, I should of went to the trouble of doing something like that myself, might double back and make a more decent post later on.

Dragonfly

Waiting....
I forgot about Hitman: Blood Money. That would've been in the list. I'm surprised Super Mario Kart didn't make the top 10.

Games:

  1. Tetris
  2. Red Dead Redemption
  3. Assassin’s Creed II
  4. Super Mario Kart
  5. ISS Pro Evolution 2
  6. Pro Evolution Soccer 5
  7. Gears of War 2
  8. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
  9. FIFA 11
  10. Super Mario Bros. 3

Consoles:
  1. PS3
  2. Xbox 360
  3. SNES

Can't believe I forgot Uncharted :kenny: I forgot so many games.

Glad to see Dragonfly picked the superior PES5 over 6. And he also picked Mario 3. Yay.

Edit: OMG Mario Kart. How did I forget all of these?! Mario Kart 64 was so GOAT.

Ziss

The Three Amigos
I wasn't sure why I was tagged in all this shit, but I'm glad I missed out.

RDR and PS3 at #1? Christ-all-fucking-mighty :facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:
