PES5 was the first and the last Football Sim I was addicted to, it was the first Football Sim that I played that actually required some getting used to, had a noticeable layer of player individuality, good feel to it, etc, etc.
PES5 was the game that showed a lot of potential; but 5 years later, PES11 is PES5 as far as I'm concerned.
PES5 was good for at least two years, after that, I just cannot enjoy it anymore due to the core flaws becoming unbearable; and for the same reason, the fact that PES11 is easier than PES5, means that I cannot enjoy playing such an insubstantial and outdated game.
So my favorite would be PES5 on the PS2, in second place PES10 on the PS3, in third place PES11 on the PS3, and in fourth place FIFA08 on the PS3.
Though, I am just disappointed, because it has not moved on from the concept of COM dictatorship.
It always revolves around the same old Famicom Concept of reacting to COM dictated circumstances..... as opposed to USER dictated circumstances where the USER creates or dictates the circumstances and also reacts to them.
As for PS1, SNES, and N64 games, shouldn't judge on that as I barely played any video games back then.
However, I do know, by watching YouTube footage, that the left analogue stick has always worked the same way: if the left analogue stick works the same way, the gameplay concept is more or less identical due to statistical reasons.
So I cannot see how any PS1, SNES, or N64, would interest me today: maybe great for their time, but the fact that we still hear of these old games in year 2010.... says it all really.
Super Smash Brothers on the N64 had more substance and replay value than PES11 on the PS3.
