I have been playing PES since the days of ISS & the first in the PES series, this year i was very optimistic before the release of 2012 i also played the demo version 2 & was impressed, little did i know the demo was actually going to be better than the game. I have always been a good player of this game, in previous editions my online ranking was around 700 & hardly lost much, i am also the best player out my group of mates for when we have tournaments etc at home. My main problem with the game is the tackling is broken as many have mentioned before, i play online when defending you use RT & A to jockey and pressure and time interceptions etc as well as closing passing lanes, i mean since when has defending ALWAYS been about this, ive played football at a decent level in real life as a center back & the amount of times my manager has shouted put a foot in is still ringing in my ear now lol. I know by looking at previous threads a lot of people will say well you have to be patient close passing lanes, jockey but defending isn't all about this, and it is a joke,i read the manual last night & it doesn't even have an action to make a tackle which is a joke! Also every player is so simple to control & they run and move pretty much like messi & once they pass you your defenders cant catch them & people are abusing this so much online,goalies are pure S**T so easy to round them and score & they stand their like statues. These issues need to be ironed out otherwise the game is solely based on attacking the amount of times I've had a ridiculously high scoring match is unreal. I know there are other issues which i have missed but these are the ones effecting my enjoyment of the game, i've even stopped playing it now & am willing to get rid of it on e bay. With online users literally bumming madrid & barca makes it worse, when the likes of puyol & pepe dribbling past my whole midfield simply because there is no way to tackle beside jockey is a P**S take!!

Theres a vast difference in the way teams in the premiership defend and play than in lower leagues. So your experience of trying to get your foot on the ball is not necessarily how defending should be done at the top level. I think there is a bit of tweaking needed to give the defender a better chance of getting a foot to the ball. Plus less skilled players should have their close control toned down a tad. But I think the general system is fairly true to life.
I haven't had too much trouble adapting to the new tackling system as Ive always defended in that way. Containing, closing down the space, doubling up, keeping the defensive shape, not letting players in behind.
Pressing the pass button is to do a standing tackle, as always, although timing is essential.
I haven't had too many games against human opposition, but I expect that the unpredictable nature of their dribbling makes its harder to defend. From what Ive read, online doesn't match up to offline gaming for PES.

@ Hawkeye 76 i understand that in real life timing is important & attacking teams have to be contained, but in this game if you try & contain you can only do so much, there should be a button for tackle (get a foot in) like previous editions simple as that, i play 90% online & everyone just plays with barca & madrid run around like twats cut back & score, ive always played a passing game, i always play with juventus but this system is really flawed.Its like were forced to play in the way that the game allows us which is a restriction.As you state my experience of getting my foot on the ball is that if yo jockey to much you also need to put your foot in, nick it off the attacker etc. You would see premier league defenders just jockey & close passing lanes, you see tackles defenders nipping in stealing the ball.

Hawkeye 76 i think you've hit the nail on the head, there's no balance in the game, attacking & defending has no balance, don't get me wrong i am impressed with the game but the defending ruins the experience. And markcross you seem to be ignorant, because the defending ruins my gaming experience makes me a crap player,really? for someone with an excellent rating on previous editions & i am very good doesn't make me crap!! Like i mentioned earlier i play solely on line, some of you mentioned you play BAL & ML so your experience will differ against AI etc, but if like me you play d*******s online who purely use barca & madrid to run around like fools & cut back is not football, i payed around £40 of hard earned money for the game as well as x box live membership so either konami needs to sort the defending out,or stop people abusing online which doesn't require much skill.
Yeah, without lags, online you can really tell if you are good at defending or not. But with little lags these speed merchants dribblers are unstopable. because of lags hold up play doesnt work, and sometimes when the timing would have been good, you just miss it and get owned because it lags;p

^^ I agree with that, very hard to stand up a human controlled player online, and I think it's to do with slight lag delay. I play with inferior teams and couldn't care if I lose because of it. Does annoy me that people are not willing to play me with a similar team, has to be barca, real and whomever else is the flavour of the month
