Time for Konami to stop releasing PES every year?

Firstly i think i should say i am a huge football fan. And am a huge gaming fan.

I started playing footie games on the Amiga 500 with Kick Off being the first one that i put a lot of hours into. From that went to Microprose Soccer,Sensible World Of Soccer, World Cup Football, Super Soccer, International Superstar Soccer (old name for PES), Fifa, Total Football, And of course PES. Massive fan of football games.

I am not a fan of just one game but of many games. With anything in life at one point something you think is the best will not always be the best. In terms of games some games have their golden years and then are replaced by another. That is how it is. I am not a die hard fan of just one series is the point i'm trying to make.

I have played the WE Demo and compared it to the PES demo and i think people are exagerating how good it is to be honest. The only difference as in real difference i noticed was the response times in passing. Everything else seemed the same. The AI seemed the same, the crossing seemed the same, the penalties seemed the same, the running and moving seemed the same, the passing seemed the same, the through balls seemed the same and so on.

Now there is clear improvement in the WE demo but in my eyes that improvement is minimal. And the fact we are happy to see passing response times increased just shows how poor the old demo really was.

Let's be honest here. The game is now 2nd best to Fifa. Not in every area but in most. You can happily play them both but when you play PES you wish a lot of things from Fifa were in there. And it is the same with Fifa, when you play that you wish some of the things in PES were in there.

But the difference is the things that i want from Fifa in PES are the looks and presentation, the things which really don't matter too much. Because the old classic's through history did not look so great, they did not have these shiney lifelike character models. What they had was gameplay.

I think that since PES has become a yearly thing it has lost sight of this and has concentrated on the looks of the game more then the playing side of the game. PES10 looks great. Looks better then Fifa10.

Konami need to take the game away and spend as long as is needed to create the game we all want from them. We know they can do it, they have done it in the past. But each year this gen since it has been an annual game they have come up short. I think this year if the game play's like the WE demo will probably be my least favourite from the series. And that is down to gameplay, nothing else. You can see the potential but it never quite get's there.
What they could do would be to release the game and then just update it every year, charge people for the updates rather then the full game because they are just too similar.

I have always believed that a game should take as long as it needs to be made. It should not be rushed, it should not be released simply to meet a deadline. If something is not working in it and your only weeks from release then be honest and say it is not ready, then delay it. People will be unhappy about the delay but that will be forgotten when the final game is released and is much better.

So i think going to a yearly format has really hurt the series of PES.
Maybe if this one is as expected does not so well they should remove it from the yearly release format, and take as long as it takes.

This "every two years" argument comes up a lot.

I think they're better off leaving it as it is, personally.

If it moves to every two years and people are hyped for a release and there's problems with the game, people would get so angry that they'd more than likely boycott any future releases.

12 months to wait for a game is a long time in itself, so 24 would be way too much. Not to mention the loss of sales they'd suffer. They'd ship more copies with two different games in two years than they would just one.

PES should be released EVERY YEAR....Other wise FIFA would get an advantage and just simply win over PES.

OK Taking 2 years to make a footie game would be great. But look at what the competitors (FIFA) are doing...They are releasing the game each and every year. So do you think people would wait a whole 2 years for a game to come out?
No. I would simply lose patience and just buy FIFA and probably look at PES as the little extra on the side...

FIFA would soar in front of PES in sales.

It just would not work.

Anyway I think for this generation Konami don't need to bother too much about graphics and stuff because its already great and I don't see FIFA getting close to PES graphics...

So that is why I am looking forward to the furture PES games on the PS3 and XBOX360 because those will be REALLY good. It's that simple to me.

No it should be released every year.
But especially this year, fifa is no better than pes judging by the demos. But I'll wait for the full versions to come out and then judge. This time, it's all a matter of opinion in which game is better.

No. They totally need to revamp the game engine and get some european developers on beard. These Japanse guys obviously don't know what simulation is. They really need to stop using the PES6 engine on the next-gen. It obviously doesn't work. What they are basically doing is adding mini-features and then claim it's the best PES in the series, so to that end I think Fifa has won again this year. And yes I'm a PES Fan boy. I will be still getting pro evo though.. :D

Exactly and that is my point.

While it is in it's current state it is more about money/sales then creating a good game. If it get's to a month before release and is poor with problems they will still release it, surely that is wrong?

Like PES10 based on the WE demo you can see it has potential. If they say took another 4 months or so to continue working on the game they could get it out after the january transfer window. The game would then run better and play better. People would be very happy if the game was the best it could be. Because right now it is far from the best it can be and i think every year while it is being released it never will be. In the yearly format i think the highest review has been what 75% on metacritic? While Fifa10 currently sit's as the 9th highest scoring Playstation game, the highest sports game.

I just think if Konami are serious about making the best football game they can then they should take as long as it needs to make. Don't get to the cut off point and think "i will release it anyway".

they could have taken the FIFA route and abuse every competition license they get. look when they had the champs league they released the same game in the same year only called it champions league. same with the world cup so we can expect a FIFA world cup game at the end of this year, even though they could encorporate it into this release easily!

A flawed philosophy but i can share the sentimen. In reality, quite simply every single PS3 version of Pro has been utter rubbish compared the footballing experience one prior to next gen consoles coming in to the fray.

I don't what will make Konami realise that they have gone on completely the wrong path with the current Pro's on PS3.

Fair points from a few people, but if you dont like pes, then buy fifa, and if you like neither...buy tennis? i am more than happy with pes being released every year as it always has solid (offline) gameplay, always great for banter with the mates, i would dred having to wait 2 years for its release, so as i say fair points, but if you are the fed up with the product after a year, then dont buy it...i understand you may be dissapointed, but such is life.

Which is a remarkable thing to see. As PES was best on the PS2 for years.
The joypad was sublime.
Maybe they have too many platforms to work on? As all games usually suffer when they cut corners getting games onto multi-formats to a set time for release.

Would konami not lose a years revenue on the game then, can they afford to operate on a loss like that....

well damaging the brand by bringing out lots of bad releases cannot help profitability either.

they need to find a good engine and a good base for the game. then at the start of the new (next) season release a data update/reskin/music refresh for like £9.99

Just peoples thoughts Mullet.

sorry, i didn't mean to sound ignorant with that post but this won't happen. Every year i love the fifa vs pes countdown and having a year of just fifa boasting about its new release and nothing from the pes corner is something i wouldn't like

well I know for a fact if PES did get european developers and changed the game engine, it would be better than FIFA by milesss. If it keeps going the way it is, I can't really see any hope for us.
