probably gran turismo 3, but ive heard need for speed underground is wicked. might have to get that.

to be honest, i dont buy many ps2 games now. i play most of my games on the pc and i like strategy games mainly like sim city and all that shit, and obviously i love football manager games.

i used to love racing games though when i was young. i always liked sega rally

i like cars, ive got it, its crap

unrealistic and annoying seen as they hyped it up to be much more, even the tuning and that is rubbish

if you like cars dont get it if you just want it to go broom broom really fast in a flashy car at midnight then get it

EDIT:
Never heard of the curse of/escape from monkey island?!!! old school lucas arts point and click adventure classics like with grim fandango, ah those were the days

 sam and max! :D *starts day dreaming*

I'm gonna have to go old here, as everyone's lists seems to be pretty recent. the award should go to the games where thats all you did with your time, not discarded once u'd completed it. for example:

Sonic the Hedgehog, Goldeneye, FIFA 95/96, Tetris, Lemmings and so on.

PES2 as well, purely because it was gob smackingly better than previous PES games (PES3 is very similar in most respects)

Mariokart for the SNES is another example - simply more addictive than a handful of smack

I assume I've already posted in here, but I'll post again:

1 - FF7 (Nothing comes close)
2 - Half-Life (It's fun to kill)
3 - Tekken3 (Most jovial)
4 - GTA3 (Better than Vice City)
5 - FF9 (Thought it was shit to begin with, but it's grown on me)

Having posted that, I've yet to purchase FF6, so when I get round to it that may well make the list. Honourable mention goes to Metal Gear Solid.

Pig

Pork Sword
Here goes.

1) FF7 (I agree with daniel)
2) Goldeneye (Hours of fun, 4 player also)
3) Super Mario World (Fan-f*cking-tastic)
4) MGS (Tactical espionage actually rather good)
5) Teken 3 (alvin beat me at it the other day)

Chrono Trigger, for me, is the best RPG ever.

The reason I can't name new games as the best, is because they're not inventive. The NES, SNES, Commodore 64 games and the like are the ones that made a genre, they were the benchmark. Most of them still are.

Sensible Soccer, the game made 8 years ago, still has the biggest accurate database of any football game.

Chrono Trigger is still the world's most innovative RPG - alongside the first Zelda game on the NES.

Why has barely anyone mentioned Doom? The game that made the FPS games what they are today? And if not Doom, then Goldeneye at least - the best multiplayer FPS made.

I'm going to save myself the time of mocking all the people naming very new games, such as GTA's etc, and assume they are too young to play the old ones.

EDIT

Should probably add Championship Manager 97-98 here. The Championship Manager games are the only new-generation games I genuinely believe are class. And even these are getting less appealing. I still play CM 01-02 and am still very addicted, but CM4 offers me nothing new.

Golden Axe was a classic game, it was the first two-player co-operative game I played where I really felt there was team-work involved. It was the game that introduced me to multi-player gaming.

I s'pose, at a long-shot, you could make a case for the Breath of Fire games, Super Mario World is the best platformer made, and there was also a game called History Line - on the Amiga I believe - which I found simply amazing at the time.
