This is amazing, Top Spin is the best tennisgame ever made.
It will be an improved version of the xbox version, with topstar players like Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Guillermo Coria.
Can't wait.

I got it free with my Xbox, which is cool because it really is a great game that I would have never played otherwise.

Despite neither me nor my friends never having played or watched tennis before, their can be some tense matches between us.

I thought Top Spin was made by Microsoft? I'm surprised that they'd bring out the best tennis game on it's bitterest rival...

The beautiful game
Top Spin (PS2)
Originally an exclusive for the Xbox, Top Spin seeks to bring home the complete tennis experience. The game lets players define their tennis playing style, take risks, pull off world-class shots, and work the crowd to develop a unique image on the court. Players can also train with a coach, to master shots and playing surfaces and work your way up the online rankings to become the best in the world. Top Spin offers singles or doubles matches with 16 of the world's top professionals, including cover athletes Anna Kournikova and the world's number-one player, Lleyton Hewitt.

Be out sometime this year.

Oh, I thought it would be a straight port of the xbox version, if they have new players such as Coria and Sharapova it will be class.

I loved the X-box version, so I will almost certainly be purchasing the PS2 version when it comes out.

Those screenshots are really low in quality. :(

Here's a preview on the coming TopSpin,

Top Spin was a big hit on the Xbox and publisher 2K Sports is looking to duplicate that success on the PlayStation 2 (finally!). We checked out a work-in-progress version of the game today at the 2K E3 booth, and the same addictive gameplay that made the Xbox game so fun seems to have found its way to the PS2 as well.

The game features the standard list of lob, topspin, slice, and regular shots--all mapped to the PS2 face buttons. Some added complexity comes in the form of risk and drop shots, which can be used on either regular volley shots or on serves. When serving up the ball, for example, you'll pull off a risk shot by holding down the R1 trigger, which will bring up a meter graphic with a quickly moving cursor. Release the cursor in the middle of the meter and you'll pull off a slamming power serve worthy of Roger Federer. Fail to do so and your serve will likely end up straight in the net.

The same mechanic will also apply to volley shots, though things get more complex when you consider you'll also be moving your player over the court, so paying attention to a quickly moving meter will be considerably more difficult. One cool feature is the ability to let your feelings loose on the court by using the L2 and R2 triggers. Hit a nice set-winning shot and you can trigger a celebration with the R2 trigger; lose a match to a girl and you'll be slamming your finger repeatedly on the L2 trigger as your tennis star throws a fit.

So far, Top Spin's graphics aren't anything too special, especially when compared to the far more impressive Top Spin 2 on Xbox 360 (which was also playable on the floor today). Still, the game moved at a decent clip and the demo's two featured players (Lleyton Hewitt and Roger Federer) were fairly recognizable, especially up close. Currently 60 percent done, Top Spin is due to hit PS2s in November. Stay tuned to our coverage of the game in the future, along with a full review once it's released.

Another preview!!!!

The Top Spin series hit it big on the Xbox with its sharp graphics, compelling online play, and controls of surprising depth and subtlety. The series now turns to the PlayStation 2, where it's scheduled to hit retail stores in summer of 2005, along with some new gameplay twists that are served up this time around.

First, let's talk about the basics. Top Spin is all about creating an accessible tennis experience, one that is both approachable for newbies and challenging for experienced players. All the standard shot types you've come to expect in tennis titles--slices, drop shots, lobs, forehands, and backhands, among others--will be part of your player's aresenal. Top Spin also tosses in crowd-pleasing trick shots as well, such as behind-the-back and between-the-leg shots, for when you want to really pump things up.

As you play out your rallies in Top Spin, you'll be asked to take special risks on certain shots to get "in the zone." Though we have yet to see it in action, the game will include a zone meter, presumably a timing-based system that will let you to make these high-risk/high-reward shots...but only if your timing is right. The more you're "in the zone," the more momentum per match you'll have.

Another interesting aspect of Top Spin for the PS2 is the idea of specializing your created player to a certain surface type. The game will feature three court surfaces--clay, grass, and hard--all of which differently affect both your movement and the motion of the ball. Will you choose to become a grass specialist, such as Martina Navratilova, or a master clay court player, such as Björn Borg? You'll have to decide in Top Spin.

As long as we're dropping names of tennis stars here, it's worth mentioning some notable names in Top Spin's roster. Male stars such as Switzerland's Roger Federer, Spain's Carlos Moya, and Australia's Lleyton Hewitt will be joined by such ladies as Russia's Maria Sharapova, Switzerland's Martina Hingis, and America's Venus Williams in the game. If you don't want to play the fame game, however, Top Spin will also let you put your face in the game using your EyeToy peripheral.

Finally, it wouldn't be a Top Spin game without online play, and the PS2 version of the game looks to be nearly as in-depth as the Xbox game, as it includes features such as matchmaking, sponsored tourneys, seedings, and player ladders. We're looking forward to playing a few sets with Top Spin at E3, so when we switch sides during play, we'll report back our findings.
