Two-Player Co-op Problem

Can anyone help me with the following two-player co-op problem?

When I begin a new cup, I can select two-player co-operation in the player settings without difficulty. However, if I save the cup and return to it later, I can co-operate only with a CPU player. When I press start on the second controller and attempt to move player two onto my team, I get the grey player symbol, instead of the red player two symbol. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Yes and it's pathetic.

This conversion has ruined the whole experience for me.

Problems for me are:

2 Player co-op is is spoilt due to being able to hog the ball.
The problem mentioned above.
Music keeps returning to the title screen.
Shimmering pitches.
No widescreen mode.

Not played live yet and I doubt I will due to:
Lag
1v1 only
No manual cursor

Problems that other people have mentioned that don't affect me but are still inexcusable:
No remapping of black and white.
Master league regenration and classic player issues.

I traded in my PS2 for this and I'm absolutely gutted.

I'm praying that Hi-def through my soon to be purchased LCD TV makes up for this.

If they sort out the 2 player co-op mode with a patch I can forgive them.

I have bought every incarnation of Konami's football series since the last PS1 version.

Ths has made me consider trading the game in and just keeping it on my hard drive. I won't because it's piracy and wrong but that's how mad it has got me.

Yeah it looks like a bug... man this game needs a patch and quick! What do these beta testers actually do????? Its the same thing with master league too

I've done La Liga with my mate and we didn't have any problems. One of us would often opt out for a game or two while building a reefer, and no problems returning. This is on the PS2 mind (true home of PES).....
