Volunteers for setting-up goal gallery forum

*This should really be in the "Forum Suggestions & Improvements" forum, but hopefully more people will view it here...*

I am offering my help (for what it's worth) in setting-up a "Goal Gallery" forum.

I have an x-port, with which people can e-mail me their favourite goals & I can download them onto my PS2 mem. card.
I have also bought a t.v card, which, considering I use a laptop, offers superb recorded-file playback; not far-off the PS2 original.
Unfortunately, I am rather lacking in the finer points of, for instance, video file compression, uploading the MPEG files and the knowledge of actually setting the forum up!

Finally, I'm convinced if a few of us help one-another we can get this off the ground.

ps
Please accept the above as a genuine offer of help in making PESinsight a more complete & enjoyable experience to use.

Kindest regards
SVB :)

Didn't the powers-that-be say they aren't going to create a goal gallery on PESInsight?

Or is your idea to create a separate site, which would be linked to PESInsight?

Just curious.

YOU HAVE A TV CARD???
well why didnt you say that like last week when we were talking about finding someone with a tv card who was willing to do it :confused

you only need to compress like 5-10 files each month, either i or anyone here could do that easy and pie

the powers that be only said no coz we had noone to do it nift, theyre say yes if theres someone serious whos gonna do it properly (is stevieboy that?)

Yeah just got the card yesterday.
I've been in contact "with the forces that be"... Looks quite promising.
Just hope we can pool together on this one, sure we all have our differences, but I think this is something we can all broadly agree on.
Obviously we need restrictions to begin with (teething troubles etc.) but like I say, it's looking quite promising!

The t.v card recordings are really very good, the card is:
Hauppauge WinTV USB £49:99 PCWORLD

File compression/uploading times seem to be the main probs at the moment.
I'm willing to do all I can.

Oh & Nifty, me creating a seperate site  - hehe if you only knew :D

nb On the PcWorld site, the video-recordable Hauppauge tv card is on at £69:99
I was told it had just gone down £20 to £49:99 in the shop.
The bloke scanned it & it was £49:99. Think their web page needs up-dating!
Mind you, no real need for all of you to go to that expense, if this goes well...
Spend £15 instead on an x-port (if you haven't one already).

I hope people understand that, to begin with at least we're gonna have to limit the amount of replays I can deal with.
I may also have to give a trusted 3rd party my email details. For obvious reasons I can't post them here... alot of you have x-ports, we're bound to have teething-troubles, I would be opening e-mail attatchments all the time (we get our share of nutters, ask any Mod).
But, once it's up & running, I should be able to even allow people to, for instance, specify camera angles they want to see in their replays, if we go the x-port/tv card route!

Stevieboy, I think the majority of users on Insight don't have "our differences" - we get on really well, in general.

There's only umdiddley who we don't like. But we all know why that is.

You've got my support, in spirit if not in genuine helpfulness. Thought I'll watch the goals in .mpg format if you get 'em in that.

I'll be in contact, jag87... And btw, the "quick setup guide" doesn't really explain how to get the a/v (PS2 s-video) channel very well. Just click on the tiny green bar in-between the tune up/down buttons, on the user interface... Took me ages to find! :(

Nifty, MPEG's are definately the way to go, as far as I can see.
If Mutu can get even 75% original definition on the compressions, we'll be in for a treat! :D

Just to let everyone know, the zipped MPEG replay files are roughly this size:

6 seconds = 1mb
9 seconds = 1.4mb
11 seconds = 1.9mb
(11 seconds is the max replay length)

The zipping itself doesn't really reduce the size that much.
I've been told that, after compression 1mb or less is what we sould aim for.
That means an un-compressed 5 second MPEG clip!!! :D
How long would that take to upload on a standard connection?
