I think this is the move that in previous WE games was done by initiating the sidestep (D-pad perpendicular to your movement direction + R2) then pulling back. The player puts his foot on the ball and drags it back has he hops on one foot. Not tremendously useful though, IMO.
In WE9, however, this no longer works. If you sidestep and pull back, you'll just change directions. Nevertheless there is a way to do it. Some guy did it to me online the other day with Damien Duff. It was quick, it looked pretty, and he got around me. If anyone knows how to do it, post it please.
As for other moves, everyone knows the new sidestep, right? Dribble (dont run) straight at the defender and at the last second press down (or up) and quickly forward again. Then laugh at him over your shoulder as you slot it in the net.
One guy pulled a clever move on me with Djibril Cisse. Usually when you receive a pass you want to let go of everything but the D-pad to trap it softly. If you hold down R1 your touch will be heavy and the ball will fly out well in front of you. Not too useful because someone else will usually pick it up before you can get to it. So when this guy passes to Cisse, I start to crowd up close to him, expecting him to trap it close. Instead, he holds down R1 and R2, sending his first touch a good 30 yards towards my goal! Since my defenders were all moving towards him, Cisse had no problem using his pace to get to the ball first and get a clear chance on goal. Good surprise move against opponents who are always pressing your passes.
