I am thinking of buying an Xport and i am just wondering if i do, does this enable me to get an option file from the web that would have transfers and english names and teams and then put it onto my own memory card?

i can't patch because i don't have a DVD burner so i am thinking that this is the next best option.

I am an utter newbie when it comes to this, so any help is would be helpfull thanks.

Yes, this would enable you to send option files. Are you planning to get option files for the WE8I the USA release?

The X-Port and Max Drive both allow you to transfer option files of any PS2 game between your PC and your PS2 memory card.

You can store all your mem card save files including goal replays and ML progress (and everything else) onto your PC and you can download any compatible option file and transfer it to your mem card.

And very good if you accidentaly deleted your option file ;)
Good luck with it and people are always around to help out with X-Port and option file questions. :)

Yeah I was thinking about buying an xport, do you not have to have a chipped PS2 then? and how long is the cable that connects the pc to the PS2? Or am I getting confused...

evo released an option file for WE7:IJ as it was the latest and best version of the game. A few option files were released by others for the US version too. Plus you can use those option file editors to convert PES3/WE7:I option files to work on the US version I think.

bravoboy - X-Port and Max Drive works on ANY and ALL PS2s. No chip needed. The cable is about 2m which isn't much but you don't need to keep the PC connected to the PS2 for long. And I recently bought a 5m USB extension cable so I have no problems with the cable length.

Nice, cheers for that Zyg. Can any patch onto it or are 'patch' and 'option file' completely different things?

Yes, they are very different. Option files go onto memory cards and patches are applied to the image of a game and burnt onto CDR/DVDR (which can only be played on chipped/modded PS2).

The best way is to use a great patch with a great option file.

So is there no way I can get correct kits onto my PS2 using an X-port?

Using an X-Port/Max Drive you can only get option files. Option files contain only data that can be edited using the ingame Edit mode or an option file editing program - which make things easier as it's done on the PC instead of on PS2 but it still can't add anything that isn't already in the game.

You have to apply a patch which contains all of the kits with logos and sponsors onto your image and burn it and then the game will read the patched kits off the patched disk.

But in WE8 and PES4 the ingame edit mode does allow you to add sponsors - but they just don't look as good as in a patched game. But for most people, the new edit mode stuff will be great (if they aren't used to playing patched versions).

I'll post pics of the same kit in patched version and in Edit mode version in a bit so you can see the difference.
