I just can't see any advantage to using the analogue over the D-pad, except maybe to prevent finger soreness. It just makes direction pressing less precise, IMO.

But how do you perform the 360 degree turn with the D-pad?I find that it much easier to move the player with the analogue but for ball direction it would be better to use the D-pad. So I uses both. However in terms of cost, it would definitely save you a lot of money if you are good with the D-pad. I use the analog stick a lot and with the all the twists and turns can you imagine the wear and tear inside the controller. In the last 2 years I have changed 4 controllers and all of them with a damaged analog stick but with the D-pad still in good condition. I still have them around cos the D-pad could still be used for other games.

I used D-Pad up to Pes4, then I realised shooting is a LOT more accurate with the analog stick so I started using that..at first it was hard but I got used to it

I much prefer the D-pad on Pro, feels like I have more control. Plus i always break the analogue sticks when i get frustrated and have been through 5 controllers in two years, one breakage of which occoured when i pulled one of the analogue sticks out with my teeth.
