WE9 Complaints/Space for improvement...

Yah when i started playing it seems impossible to get the ball from the CPU and keeps fouling them... Almost all the games ended 0-0 and i simply can't score... After a few more games, i seem to get a better hang of it and managed to pass rtound the midfield better and score more frequently...

the R2 button is much more important in this series and offers a more complex game for both offense and defense...

Today i just got the hang of using R2 shoot.... Scored 3 from outside the penalty area... Not those spectacular drive but very well placed shots into the corner....

But i still feel that the fouls in the game are called too easily sometimes....

goalies, penalty box, master league injury and fatigue feats and defense

1. konami slowly gets to the real level of goalies, reaction time is improved but still not perfect. a good thing would be to make them come out and, say, narrow the angle if a striker enters the box from the wings (and even if he`s marked by a defender). they occasionally do it, but there`s still much room for improvement. maybe konami should make an sub-option with the difficulties, to say, have the possibility to choose `world class keeper skills`, something that direction, so the pro gamers are not bored (maybe i sound too hard, but then i was a goalie for some time).

2. the ref blows the whistle far too easily on contacts in the penalty area. you touch the opponent, or vice versa (sometimes you don`t even stumble) and there`s a threatening big chance of that to be a foul. laughable. a penalty box parameter should be that the fouled player hits the ground or at least has a believable animation to justify the ref`s decision. these things really bug me, even if you`re the one on the sunny side (hate to win a game against arsenal on 6 stars 3-0 with 2 of them being ref`s presents). destroys the realism konami`s promoting with the we/pes series.

3. a new injury system (or an improved version) would be nice. especially talking about the `c` rated players. i can hardly even put that kind of a player in the lineup (the more so if it`s a very good player, in this case, be it robben) without thinking about the player who, in the end, will replace the former as the possibility of an injury is very high. i would not protest if it were in a tackle or a vicious bodycheck ect., but even a slight touch, player falls, and he`s out. i`m developing a robben-phobia.

4. ML fatigue accumulation is vastly improved (at times, or in specific player`s cases, too harsh and not convincing). on one hand it`s good so that you really have to rotate your squad, and players returning from international duties are really tired, but some were so tired that i had to rest them for 3 weeks. that is too much. on the other hand some players who in real life usually represent the backbone of the team`s starting lineup and feature almost every game, getting tired too fast (i play terry and cech in 3 games in a row and have to give them a break for 1, sometimes 2 games after that).

5. konami`s illness with the chaotically jerking defense from we8/pes4 might be visually cured, but it`s still there. through passes into the defense are too easy as your defenders will always react a whole lot later then the charging attacking player. and yes, i`m using all the tactics there are, marking players, defense behavior, matching the speed, reaction and balance attributes of the marking defender and the striker ect. very often you will know in advance where the ball is going to be played, but for some reason, not matter how hard you press the R1, in combination with the super-cancel (and scream at the defender), he will not sprint until some (programmed) moment where it will be too late already. frustrating that intercepting passes would be so unfair (but hey, it still works...sometimes).

ps: the opponent CPU defense on 6* should be harder, or let`s say, more intelligent. the game`s too easy (i haven`t even touched the other star difficulties). you still can pass the ball around with a pinball feel to it. but now there is at least more midfield play (but still not enough!!).

ps2: the slow feel on the pitch is just purely realistic. if you`re cool, you still can launch lightning attacks (reminds me of ac milan`s philosophy; you can really stupify your opponent with a boring and slow AND stamina reserving display, THEN sting them with a goal, and THEN get back to the previous playing style and hold on to your goal and the 3 points). bravo seabass & konami. the guys who want speed over everything should go play fifa.

i think one thing that really trouble the game is shooting... i often find my players shooting off target after getting into good positions... it's frustrating and i hope konami will improve on that when pro evo is release...

Another problem is that when an opponent is sending a pass to one of their player, when it seems like my defender is almost there to intercept the ball, my player will somehow slow down and let the ball pass him and then start sprinting again..... wat the hell..
This is freaking frustrating and happens very often

dunno anyone of you experience this or not

yes, that`s very true. it happens often but it seems you cannot prevent it. we have to live with that for the time being i guess.
also it`s too easy for the opponent CPU to through pass through your defenders, at times i had 4 (!) defenders standing on 2 square meters space and they all looked happily after the ball that just sliced through their area and did nothing (of course i punched the x or square button like mad).
another thing is, that opposition players often will receive a pass standing with the back to your goal then one-touch turn around 180 degree and pass the ball down the wings with monstrous speed or make a long pass from the wings into the pen.box without even looking (while executing the craziest turn arounds) or worse, doing the long pass while standing completely still (and the ball still has that r. carlos drive). completely ridiculous i say.
and finally, it`s insanely simple in this game to feed your wingers. i tried a whole lot of options to prevent this from happening, but it won`t work. even when their winger is marked by my player, your`s will always react some moments too late where the opponent is already way down his way to your box. just finished playing chelsea - manU on 6* and game ended 8-5 (!!!). can you believe that? scoring never been this easy. i had nightmare visions of fifa gameplay during that game.
not much of a reality display there konami.

yeah all the sidestepping makes the players look like they are skating on ice sometimes, Why when you or the cpu injure a player there is never a card shown? but when you look at a player the wrong way you get booked? now it seems you can't just roll the ball out like the other games, if you throw the ball it has to go 35 yards into the heart of midfield where you get tackled straight away!

Bonk when you say it's like ac milan style, i don't think that is a good thing at all, who watches italian football? it's boring
Mcsocker how do you mean about R2? it's doing my head in!, just keep getting tackled in final third.. loads of possesion no goals too frustrating

i think the game is too hard for people who give up str8 away instead of waiting for the real thing pes 5...

For defense, Use R2 more often and not the X button.... You will realize you dun foul the opponent so easily and get the ball much more successfully than hitting the X button madly... Most effectively when chasing their wingers and muscling them out for the ball...

For attack, use R2 to vary your dribble speed effectively and your player will stretch himself more when turning close to an opponent. Also using R2 to control your 1st touch + turn(i feel it works) and turning your body towards the goal(holding R2 when with possesion), rather than turning your player manually using the d-pad. during crosses, i hold down R2 to reposition my player(i'm not sure am i doing it right or not) to a better position. Most importantly, R2 shoot MAY work more effectively than trying to blast a powerful shot. My morientes placed 2 goals into the bottom right corner of the goal from just outside the penalty area...

These are what i feel are useful about the R2 button.... personnal opinion so if there is anything not right wif it...........

of course, you have to use all these with a lot of other techniques involving more buttons..... play more and you will get the hang of it slowly.... i ain't no expert also, still struggling on 5* in master league now....

Man, I'm getting scared with all those complaints! Now I don't even know if I should buy the game. Is it that different from PES4?!!! And what's that thing about players making automatic sidesteps that makes them look like as if they're "skating on ice"?... please, be more specific. I know I shouldn't talk once I didn't even play it, but I'm not liking those automatic features - if I want a player to do a sidestep or stepover, I'll do it MYSELF!
Seriously now, I don't want to spend my money in a disappointment - is this game really worthy, and be honest, is it a let down for those who play PES since its very beginning?

Thanks in advance

to contradict my self slightley one thing that really pisses me off is when an attacking player is in the box and my defender is behinde him and touches him slightley and he goes over like a tone of shit .Happens far to often and god damn it mostley in important matches allways when the coputer needs a goal.

Just had this game for over a week and I feel I've managed to feel abit more comfortable playing it.

Positives are the improved animations for all the players, the improvement of shooting techniques and the addition of various dribbling styles.

The problems I have with the game is the slow and unpredictable cursor changing. To me, cursor changing from player to player seems slower than it was on PES 4. Best examples I can think of are either using manual cursor changing or s-auto is how slow it is to switch from player to player. While switching player, it occastionally switches to the wrong player. Sometimes while switching, it registers the player second nearest or even third nearest player being the closest to the ball.

Unpredictable cursor changing. Best example I can think of is from a goalkick from the opposition where you try and head the ball or control it. Sometimes the cursor goes through a cycle of players just to head or control the ball. When the ball finally reaches to the original player who was expected to at least contest for it, another player from my team is near to the ball and also trying to head it. This leaves a big space which was supposed to be covered by a player.

A funny case was when I was crossing the ball from the wing's into the penalty box where at random the cursor switched to my goalkeeper. Just the sight of a circle representing the goalie rushing forward and the name of the player on the bottom left is that of the keeper.

Oh yah another improvement that should be made to the game is the penalty kick system.... Konami should think in the direction of virtual soccer's penalty kick system.... i tink VS's penalty kicks are quite good....
allowing your player to position his direction, and having a shooting gauge...
