What do these stand for?

This is just an example:

A = 1st column
B = 2nd Column
C = 3rd Column

A16 = 1st column, 16 boxes down
B32 = 2nd column, 32 boxes down
C8 = 3rd column, 8 boxes down

Does the top 1 start as 1 or is it 0?

Most people start it at 1 to avoid any confusion
