I'm from the US man. Release date here isn't until mid November so I figured I'de make the leap to PC. As for things to watch for, I've heard people say PC plays a little differently than consoles. Any truth in that?

I play on PC.

PC plays slower than console version (at least on the 360 set up that I played on) and is much smoother and better looking although essentially the games are identical).

Strange that the majority on this site are playing ProEv on PC when PC sales have accounted for just 2% of total ProEv sales in the UK.

Piracy will destroy PC gaming yet.

I have the PC version running on a Q6600 overclocked to 3.4Ghz with 4Gb of DDR2 with a nVidia GeForce GTX260.

DRM will do that before piracy.

Indeed.

Im playing on PC, and only ever play on PC. The major factor now in me buying games is not whether they have a good review or not but what kind of DRM it has. Which is frankly terrible when a good game can be run in to the ground by atrocious attempts to stop pirates that never works.

Yeah...my gaming rig is not hooked up to the internet at the moment so I am finding myself buying retail versions of games and then downloading the crack for these games just so that I can install the thing.

The DRM system is destined to fail and will only serve to piss legit consumers off. These days, downloading the bootleg version from Newsgroups is actually much less hassle than being a legit customer.

Been reading about a game utlising a USB dongle system for anti piracy measure whereby the USB dongle will have to be plugged into PC for game to run. I think hardware measures such as this will become increasingly common.

Thats another idea that will fail miserably. Whats to stop someone emulating the dongle in software? Or what happens if the dongle is lost or broken, do you get a replacement so you can still play your legitimately ownded game? What about systems that are sold now and in the future that dont have USB ports? Many motherboard makers are moving on to firewire and bluetooth connectivity and dropping USB support.

In the end its all a complete waste of time, PC users will always be treated like criminals until such time as we make a stand and actually REALLY boycott a product for its DRM system. Then we can get the point across we wont stand for that shit anymore.

Oh and Mat- How you liking 09 mate? I know you slated 08 last year, think this ones an improvement?

U are probably correct re the dongles. If they were to be emulated via software, then they really would kill the legit consumer as who the hell would be willing to put up with all that crap when they could so much easily download the bootleg and dongle emulation software.

ProEv 09 is a class act. Its exactly the game that I always hoped PES would be with each successive release (which for me has always fallen short of my high expectations since the PES series peaked with PES3). Problem is that it is still essentially the same old engine from PS2 days albeit that same old engine polished up to the hilt. Combining this with the yet again atrocious online functionality and I can understand the lukewarm reviews the game has received. These days, good online play is a must if a title wants to remain competetive. I am a PC gamer so will stick with ProEv. If however I was a console gamer then I would be very drawn towards FIFA09 purely cos it is a footie (also thoroughly decent) title that I can play online. I say that unless Konami fixes this further Pro Ev online pigs arse (which they wont), then the series is set to lose even more of its fanbase.

But for offline playability alone, I find this game to be well balanced, exciting, and overall tremendous fun. WAyyyyyy better than the technically vastly superior FIFA 09 in terms of the enjoyment that can be had with the game.

Yeah I fully agree on the game engine, its tired and old and in serious need of a new replacement. Konami really need to take a leap and be bold with a whole new engine and move the franchise forward. They could just do the same as with ISS and change the name a bit, like from Pro Evo Soccer to something like Pro Revoluton Soccer. People would flock to it en masse gauranteed, and if the engine was up to snuff it would instantly re-energise the whole genre as PES did back in the ISS days.

I havent played this one online yet, I hanging back a bit till things are clamed downed a bit and hopefully a patch or two is thrown our way. But this game not having a Legends VS mode was a MAJOR mistake. That alone would have gauranteed fantastic owner buzz and really give the game the press it would deserve. Konami shot itself in the foot with that one. No wonder people are getting pissed at Seabass when he cant even get basic online right.

Last years online was a total shambles, it almost never ever worked right for me even on high speed broadband and (for pes) a killer rig. Im hoping this one at least works right.

PS3 mostly due to the fact that PES has always felt right at home using the PlayStation controller and because the editing is so much more extensive on the PS3 version compared to the 360.

I'll be buying PES 2009 for the PS2. Sadly, I do not own a PS3 or a 360. I will buy a PS3 in time, though. I have a wedding to save for, as well as keeping a tidy sum put away for a new place (to rent) once we've tied the knot, so getting a PS3 and an HDTV (which I will get at the same time) has been put on the back burner, naturally.

I have been playing the PS3 version of the game at my friends place. I think it's a solid game, much better than the next-gen offering of PES 2008 (the PS2 version was sound), and I really enjoy the Become A Legend mode. I'm hoping the PS2 version comes with the exact same features, especially in regard to the Become A Legend mode. Hopefully the gameplay is similar, too. The graphics will be a step or three down, but that is expected.

I've found it quite difficult to find any news on the PS2 iteration of the game. Has anyone came across any previews or reviews?

Buy a cheap decent graphics card and play it on PC. You wont be sorry believe me, the PC version imo is the superior platform.

Mine is on PS3, I had my PES 2008 on Xbox360 but it just didn't feel right when using xbox360's controller to play PES.
