He ain't heavy and he ain't my brother ;)

I may have played more SWOS than anyone here ;)

I would not bet on that Zyg bro :)

SWOS 96/97 and Dino Dini's Goal! are No. 1 of all times.
If you haven't played 'em, don't call yourselves soccerfans.

And, then we can go with pes/we series! :)

Cheers!

the best game created is pes1! pes2 and pes3 are all developments and upadtes of the original characterisitics and elements of pes1, it it wasnt for pes1 then fifa would be a hell of alot worse now! pes1 actually made players attributes matter, rather than fifa where if u were alan wright (formerly of vilal) you cud take on the entire real madrid team with easy, with the pes serious you have to be more technical, smarter, quick! fifa is for people who dont wanna knw the ins and out a phenomanol techincal games, i.e pes. Pes1 was the first football game on ps2 to be rated over 90% thats an acheivement in itself and to this day is regarded as possibly the best game on ps2

so as i step off my soap box, if it wasnt for chruchill we wud have lost wwII if it wasnt for forreign footballers in england wed be fucked and if it wasnt for pes1 wed be all playing fifa

that is why its the greatest game created and not developed

fifa world cup 98 was and indeed still is by far and away the best game in terms of presentation and sound.

in terms of gameplay, of course the we7 (havent got we7i-j) has to take the crown for me.

graphics wise i would also say we7, but a patched version of course :)

for sheer playability, swos was great. so many hours on that game!

also worthy or mentions would be fifa 99, isspe2 and the entire champ man series.

so overall.... mmmmm.....

im tempted to say world cup 98 just because it was so well made, but ill go with we7.

SWOS definately, even with all the all the improvements that titles over the years have brought NOBODY and I mean NOBODY has ever created a career mode that matches the one in SWOS. In comparison the PES/WE master league is a joke.

BRAVO! BRAVO! Especially the last fact.
if we put graphics at the side, gameplay is unbeatable.
And career mode won't be surpassed ever.
ALL TEAMS from all over the world with FULL and correct names of ALL players. Brilliant. Even coaches and refs.
Club business with P/L statement where you can monitor whether you are making profit or loss, selling, buying, mate it was ALL done almost 10yrs ago.

Of course, I'm big fan of PES/WE, cannot compare in terms of graphics and gameplay since these are two toatlly different types of games but I would say that SWOS is the gratest football game ever created.

Played Dino Dini's GOAL! ???
Mate, some of the BEST ball physics ever.

Havent mentioned often but I played ISS PRO Evolution 2 totally grey! That was an awesome game! Of course WE7I Jap is better, but I think I had more fun with ISS PRO Evolution 2. That game was really a huge step forwards in that time.

Cheers

Sure Mate, but you want be blown away with the graphics, since the game is pretty old. But if you love retro gaming you'll LOVE IT!
It has tiny, i really mean TINY small players and at first moment it looks funny but those tiny players can pretty much everything you can imagine in football. i.e. dribble, lob, bicycle kick, volley, headers etc...

It is hard to pull those with keyboard but if you have a joystick I wouldn't worrie too much.
It has old (read"Excellent") type of control where the ball doesn't stick to your feet.
Also, game has all clubs from all over the world as well as international teams, all correct names, and has unbeateable career mode and gameplay.

Here's the link where you can download the last version, which is SWOS V.2.0 96/97 so you can check it out. Also there is a review :)

Enjoy it mate!

Man, I tried to download SWOS from that site you gave me, even though my download speed goes up to 3mb per-sec, it still takes alot of time to download only a 15MB file. I found some website and downloaded SWOS2K with roster updates etc.

Now the only thing I like in SWOS is menus, lets face it everything is nicely designed, you can choose any club team from Europe from any EURO country very cool. But that gameplay and speed of the game, and graphics are just hard to get used too, plus I never really liked DOS games.

WE7I-J 4 me ;)

Well, I warned you :), you have to be die hard fan of retro gaming, but you should give it a try with joystick and try it few times it's ADDICTIVE! And it takes skill to master it as well.

Of course, you can't compare WE/PES with it. It's absurd.

WE/PES are THE BEST football simulations, period.

SWOS is something else, that game made the biggest step in football gaming in my oppinion.

See you soon bloke when WE8 comes out :)

Like you said it before, all our "todays" wantings were done almost 10yrs. ago. SWOS offers everything, great career and season mode, alot of club teams from around the world, and more. Just imagine WE or PES with the same things like in SWOS..man that would be something.

Hmm, let me think, WE or FIFA?? WE or FIFA?? My vote goes to SWOS. Considering the fact that SWOS was a revolution in football gaming, they deserve to be best of all times till someone else comes up with a revolutionary game. SWOS has presented a career mode 10 years ago that no one has still gotten close. Also the the ball control in SWOS somehow never got into these new generation console football games. Some of you might not find SWOS graphics very friendly, but that is excusable with all the other goods SWOS is offering.

On the other hand, we have to admit that FIFA and WE (or PES) are the top games of today. They both bring their thing into the competition, my opinion being WE bringing more valuable parts. FIFA's fancy graphics and online functionality can not be denied, but it is also sad that FIFA stands very poor next to WE on other departments. WE has a lot of neat features, especially the transfer negotiations and player payments are the most realistic to this date I believe.

It would be a dream come true if next WE had a deep career mode like SWOS keeping WE features, and nicer graphics would always be a plus.

Bottom line: SWOS!!!

Let`s put it this way. SWOS (Sensible World of Soccer) "was" the best game back in the "old" days. It was on DOS, so it was playable mostly on DOS (pc) and Amiga systems. I never played SWOS before, recently I started because I liked what Milosh said about the game. SWOS doesn`t have fancy graphics, or that 3D look, but from your points of view (Milosh and headache) I do believe that SWOS offers better career mode than PE / WE games. SWOS is a great game who likes DOS games, meaning there`s no graphics, or 3D look, but somehow the game is still FUN to play.

As of today WE and PES are "THE BEST" football (simulation) games, now simulation we all know it means REALISTIC , while FIFA brings (arcade): funny moves, unrealistic life imposible stuff that happens.. MISSION INPOSIBLE aswell.

SWOS is good and fun to play, but WE7I-Japan is THE BEST today.

The career mode in SWOS was amazing but that was before the times when they had to pay big money for the licence and image rights to players, clubs, leagues etc. If SWOS came out now then they could either go the FIFA way and pay big money for licences or go the PES way and be cheap about it - which would mean very few leagues and teams in the game. Would it still have been good like that?

I prefer to play WE7:IJ but will have to give it up for a while and play PES3.

Kick
Off
2
Multi-player league.
Stick your career modes and master leagues, Kick Off 2 was just pure playability in the match itself. You could edit the tactics EXACTLY how you wanted them, the keepers were set at just the right level, there were actual skills involved in controlling the ball (eg. on PES3 your player automatically moves to where the ball will land and traps it for you), you had full control over elevation and curl etc. etc. etc.
Admittedly if you didn't get into KO2 properly then the game ended up like pinball, but that was beauty of it - it rewarded the people who put time into it.
There's no point me going on. You either loved it or hated it.
(By the way, I'm on about the Amiga version. The Atari version's graphics were not as good and suffered massive slow-down)
Kick Off 2 is king - Konami could learn a lot from the playability of this game.
