It could just be their team is better or even slightly better?
I did have the same problem, I think it is a case of using the same team until really proficient.
I use Newcastle religiously - so I feel I can give as good as I get against say, Man Utd who are a more formidable side.
If you choose different teams a lot, it may just be a case of getting to grips with said team until you can knock Adriano off the ball.
Bear in mind - playing online with lag issues does not help either, especially if you are the underdog.

body balance would prob be the biggest factor. I find 50/50s are one of my best areas.
what you have to do it be an annoying little bastard and hurry them all the time. Usually works with an unskilled player. if you're palying someone good don't chase the ball in their half.

Personally I find Rooney quite bad in the game, maybe it's because I don't use him that often but I'm never impressed with him which is dissapointing because I think he's just as good as Adriano in real life. C Ronaldo I also find a bit poor but I guess his stats will shoot up for the next game (maybe the new Adriano as C Ronaldo is on the cover of the next PES game? We'll see) as he's been one of the best players in the World this year.
Utd will get a lot better next installment I think, Carrick, Vidic and Evra should be improved a lot as currently their stats are pathetic and they've all been great this year.
Sheva's stats should go down a fair bit after his performances last year and Messi should go up a lot.
