for me it would have to be the lack of new stadiums but the game is going in the right direction as there are some fantastic stadiums in the game. It would also have been nice to see some more premier league licenses especially in the champions league but the better editing options should sort this out

Well I do have some complaints, and I damn hope someone at Konami hears and listens to them, because eventually all the fansboys from your side will convert as they realise how terrible this year's game actually is.

Also, I don't see how in any way the game is beautiful... The passing system is unrealistic and poor, the ball is flat, the ball is flat, the ball is flat, players move like a series of robots, every and any animation is abrupt and clunky, the shooting system is terrible and that is all before you get to the piss poor aesthetics (excluding the player faces...)!

The name Some Guy.... actually comes from the fact that I can't be bothered thinking of another one, maybe AussieRam might have been better, but we're in the Championship this season so that wouldn't really be that good to have on a PES forum. I was actually last year really looking forward to playing as Derby (well, Derbyshire) in PES 2008, but then the game sucked donkey dick...

Also, here's everything that I've written on this site so far... 2,533 words (not including what I've written above) of me find more than credible fault with PES 2009:

I was actually extremely dissapointed with that demo... The ball seemed flat! The sounds came seemingly from punching a sand bag, the player movements were un-natural, it was about as smooth as bitumen and yeah... Terrible, I thought that they were going to fix all this, but instead I've been given another shit sandwich from Konami, completely laking any realism in gameplay. Then, once again the graphics are terrible, it's just reskinned PES 6 graphics, which whilst I didn't mind a couple of years back, is an issue now. I have kept playing PES 6 because it's only gone backwards!

Everything has been ruined over the past couple of years.

I just got FIFA 09 today and I have to say, I'm impressed. Everything about it now is far better than the shit they were giving their players back in FIFA 05-07 (probably 3 or the worst football games of all time, however I think PES 2008 and 2009 can match FIFA 2005 for shitness!). Ball physics is natural and actually has some vague baring on reality, collisions actually happen, players make runs off the ball both offensive and defense. Nothing pleased me more than to see an over lapping fullback as an outlet to make a break down the left before a cross into the box was headered in by a midfielder making a late run into the box. The tactical control you have before and during the match is far better than anything I've ever seen on PES in all my years of playing it. Then the AI can actually defend attacks, in the new PES 2009 demo I just got Messi, ran up the top of the box, down the top of the box, took a shot and GOAL! What the hell?!

I'm seriously dissapointed with the PES, so much so that it may actually be the first one that I'm not going to buy... Might compliment FIFA 09 being the first FIFA I've bought in 2 years...

Also, don't call yourself an expert you arrogant twit! Just because you've played every game doesn't make you an expert by any stretch of the imagination. You may be experienced, but there is a difference between that and being an expert. Anyhow, Bravo on the most arrogant comment I've seen in a while!

In all honesty, I have to say something that I'm going to feel rather dirty for saying, FIFA has won this year if something isn't seriously different between the demo and the final release. Not only won, but won by a country mile!

You converted for the worst version Konami's made... Wow!

I don't understand, this means that you liked the shit FIFAs and enjoyed the shit PES'... Do you just not like good football games?

Dude... What bias bullshit is this!

I used to love PES (4, 5 and 6), but PES 2008 was rubbish, and as far as the demo seems PES 2009 could quite possibly be worse. As much as I hate to say this, I think you're just scared that FIFA 09 might actually be better, and as far as I've found so far, it's by far better than the shit sandwitch that Konami have handed us this year! The gameplay of FIFA this year is outstanding, the player models are spot on (size wise) from Manchester United to Aldershot Town. The only reason that I could think that you think that the players are too small is that you don't realise that the defult camera in PES 2009 is very close in. Now, I've always loved PES, and I myself was laughing my arse off about how shit FIFAs 2005, 06 and 07 were, but this season FIFA has won it for all money, and really to think otherwise is just being a plain ol' Fanboy.

You keep calling back to 1998... Who gives a fuck what the games were like back then, we all know that PES has kicked the crap out of FIFA since it was first released in 2001, and in truth I don't give a shit about anything more recent that this year game wise now as believe it or not... It's fucking 2008 and not 1998!

I've tried the new PES 2009 demo, and if Konami think that's a job well done, they can go fuck themselves, because it's rubbish.

-The ball is flat... I don't know how else to describe it...
-Players are clunky... It feels like I've got a pitch covered in badly designed robots designed by Honda for the purpose of walking up stairs!
-The ball physics and shooting is dreadful
-The game is yet to actually become Next Gen in any aspect apart from textures. The physical models of the players is still the same from the past 4 years odd, as I said the physics is shocking and in general the game plays like a badly updated game from 2006...

I would say that Konami were trying to copy FIFA 05 and 06 with this, because I have no other explination. They took aspects of the 2 worst football games I've ever played and turned them into one glorious shitheap and are trying to once again use the great name of PES to market shit! Sort it the fuck out Konami!

Uh... Seriously, I've loved PES until last year, and I must say that the biased vibe given off by you people is amazing!

The ball is only kicked far in front when you are sprinting... You slow down, bring it close in and beat your man... Like in real life!

Wait... has anyone here actually played FIFA 09... Just putting it out there! The players do not look the same by any stretch of the imagination. I don't need a name on my players to know who they are, when Tito's on the ball, I know it's Tito. When Green's on it, I know it's Green, and when I have Commons showing the fullbacks who's boss, you're damn right I know who it is!

Maybe with the fanboy vision you can't see that, but hey...

Kiddish? What?

You can't bend a ball going straight at all... What do you mean no arch or trajectory? Are you seriously that bias that you can't actually see anything in any other game than PES...

The demo for PES 2009 is shit! PES 2008 was shit, so much so that I actually bought FIFA 08 when I had no intention to do so, as I'd given up after the joke that was FIFA 07! I don't see all of these problems though that people are trying to poke in FIFA this year though, seriously... Go and buy the game, don't even bother with the demo, because it kicks the living shit out PES 2008 and if the actual PES 2009 is even remotely similar to the demo it kicks the shit out of it too!

Seriously what the fuck is wrong with you matey... I express an opinion about PES going down hill and you tell me to go to the other side of the lake! What the fuck, I can't be worried that my once favorite game is getting worse with each coming year? Does it offend you that maybe if you actually kept an open mind instead of just pure: "Lalalalala... I'm not listening, lalala... PES IS THE BESTESTEST EVER!" then you might actually see what I mean.

The reason the ball get's taken away from players in FIFA 09 (and 08) is because the AI can actually close a player down instead of just a singular player slicing the defenses like butter because he made a slight turn. In fact if you read earlier here, you'll find my far more detailed complain! The ball isn't too far in front of the players as well, and in fact I would argue that in the new PES the ball is more or less completely flat and sticks to the players feet as if they have placed magnets in the players boots and in the ball. In fact my first goal on the PES 2009 demo was Lionel Messi, up the box, down the box and a shot that just inexplicably sailed into the top corner. There was no closing down and the AI defense more or less just trailed behind him, despite the fact that they were originally in the perfect position to close me down. You're give unrealistically large amounts of space due to this. Then you have great fun down the flanks, because again, the fullbacks don't know how to close players down, so you just get a free run as long as you don't run head first into one, and even then you sometimes get away with it.

Moving onto the players... What team do I support do you ask... THE MIGHTY RAMS, 6 GAMES UNBEATEN! Do I have a problem with the player models and images... Not at all. The graphics in FIFA 09 are overall amazing, and again... KICK THE SHIT OUT OF THE PAST GEN GRAPHICS OF PES. I must admit however that I do like some of the faces, but graphics again are truly trivial when the gameplay of PES 2009 is so terrible, that I actually think it may have gotten worse!

I must agree... The gameplay is shit...

Also the overall graphics are shit, the animatics are okay, but the player models (not faces), stadiums, pitches, animations... most of the graphics are shit too...

What... My second game on the demo was a 5-0 drubbing of Real...

Wow hard to score!

Face it, it's one of the worst PES games ever made and it shames the name that had so many amazing games before it!

The closing down is still pathetic, shot whistle into the back of the net and the game gives you far too much space, again as the closing down is poor! The movements of players around the pitch and the movements in general are terrible...

Wow... I'm actually gettin extremely confused now, this is one of the worse football games ever and it's a joke compared to the greatness of PES 4, 5 and 6 which kicked the complete shit out of any of the shit EA produced. However, now that EA got their shit together, Konami have just collapsed in their game and are producing shit!

SORT IT OUT KONAMI!

Because it's still far far worse than PES 6 and is in fact worse than FIFAs 08 and 09! That's why people are complaining, because Konami failed!

Have you not noticed that this game is a half baked bucket of shit again! Last year and this year's editions are a disgrace to the name PES!

Also, don't say it's because I'm crap at the demo, because that's not the parts I'm complaining about (what's that? 5-0 the second match on the demo I played, it turns out that the defenses still suck donkey balls in this version... Hey, closing down, what's that?). The players are clunky when they move, it's like I've got 20 tin can men, and 2 tin can men with arms... Then the ball is slow, it's like it's a flat ball on a waterlogged pitch. The ball doesn't leave the ground unless lob pass or take a shot. Players movements are abrupt and confusing to watch. Running just looks rediculous as if this were a parody of a football game, the only issue is that it's meant to be serious. Players movement off the ball isn't even near upto scratch. Fullbacks don't play like fullbacks whatsoever in defensive or in attacking senses. If you've got Lionel Messi you can score a goal by running up the top of the box, down the top of the box and taking an easy shot! It's just complete and total rubbish again!

Why are people praising this kind of shit when we should all just not buy the game to tell Konami to sort the gameplay the fuck out. After they've solved that they can then rebuild (from scratch) the graphics engine, which whilst impressive when the PS2 came out, doesn't really cut it in 2008-09...

I joined here the day I got the PES demo and was disgusted by what has become of my once favorite series of Football games. Everything that had once made it great, so great in fact that more than once me and my mates had managed to spend 5 hours straight playing (PES 5 and 6) the game and still not being bored. However, PES 2008... The same mates did the following with it:

-Took it back to be swapped with a different game, only an hour after he bought it (he was playing it for 1 match, and then went back to the shops)
-Snapped the disc and wrote an abusing email to someone at Konami, I've yet to this day figured out who he sent it to
-Turned it into a clock

As for me, I didn't buy PES 2008 because I'd played it with the bloke who turned it into a clock.

Now, here's me, eargely anticipating Konami's response to a surprisingly good FIFA 08 and 09 and complete failure of PES 2008... And it's even worse, it's just Epic Failure on all fronts!

...well I must admit some of the faces are damn good, but apart from that it's just a failure of a game so far!

Everything that was wrong gameplay wise in FIFA 05, 06 and 07 (well, I only ever played the demo of 07) is in PES 2009. The ball being glued to the feet of players, the clunky movement and turning, the poor animations, all of it is in PES 2009. Poor AI, the ability to just run straight through defenders, easy crosses as fullbacks are unable to close someone down... It's all in there!

Don't call me a FIFA fanboy either you stupid twit, I'd love to be praising PES once again as it's reclaims the Football gaming title, but I just can't, because this demo is a joke!

Now, I also must clear some things up about FIFA 09:
Glitches
-Refs sometimes call play back whilst playing advantage when you are in clear scoring positions
-Uh... well that's about all I've encountered so far in the full game, and even that only occurs once in a blue moon!

However, has anyone seen the Casper Buffon glitch from the PES 2009 demo. That one can be a game breaker. Or how about the cards?

Really, I don't want to be a fanboy to either side, but if not liking a shit game is to be a fanboy then fine, call me a FIFA Fanboy, but when I'm enjoying the best of both worlds (as I always have), you'll be sticking it out in the roughest time in PES' history as a second shit version is being released!

Wow... Blind faither here!

Seriously, EA have hit the nail on the head with FIFA 09! Best football game they've released in a very long time. Give the full version a try, you'll be surprised if you take the PES goggles off for a minute or two...

100%true. you need a medal for telling it how it is.

ive been a fan of the series since it started up. but now its fukin shite. 2008 was awful and so is this.

the fact that the nest are the same in every stadium irritates me slightly and takes something away from playing in different stadiums. However this wont be enough to disappoint me and i am sure i will forget about it

I love the gameplay now ive learnt how to play properly. I hated like some do in here but the only people who hate it atm are the people who havnt learnt fully how to play the game and what players are capable of.

is the game enough of a challenge is your opinion

I think its a challenge. No matter how much of the ball i get and dominate 80% of my demo matches end in 0-0's or small wins by either me or the comp. I think the AI is the best its ever been. Their constantly switching sides, seeking through balls and developing oppenings even when im on top so i think this year my ML will be quality as i hopefully have a decent challenge this year. I havnt lost ML season in over 100 seasons since pes 4.

good stuff. one of the problems with last years game was that there was no balance to the results. Your games would finsih 5-3 or 4-2 whilst the computer games would be tight affairs.

Yh this year they've really tied up the gameplay so the results stay low even if they have to cheat you out of it to keep the scorelines down. I dont mind. Im looking forward to being AC Milan but after looking around it turns out loads of people just pick the lesser teams to get a challenge which i repect and see why they find it fun but for me i think it just ruins the gameplay.

Fail to impress

Whats worst mmm many things lets see

1.) Players freeze for a sec when you select them causing them either to shift from where they were going to or coming to a complete halt resulting in AI just cruising past you.
2.) Run straight through opponents players pushing them to the extend that they stumble and fall on the ground no foul and no the balance arn't shit good teams
3) Players can literally be pushed to the ground even in the box a clear foul push but no whistle being blown
4)Automatic selection of your players by the computer force selection
5)Your players home in on AI leaving their posts when there is already another team mate pressuring the player, creating huge gaps.
6) Worst of all is the lack of control over your whole team, you cant select a player without it stumbling, freezing or doing some thing stupid unless its running in straight line.

These issues have been there since pro evo 08 when i started playing which in my opinion sucked even more then pro evo 9. Nice graphics but still carries the same issues as the previous version. And to me that screws up the game horribly.

I think some people need to realise that there are always going to be slight issues in football games where the developers get it wrong.
When they improve on something then they forget to add something else in or modify something.
At the end of the day these games are never going to completely satisfy everyone & that is just life.
Me personally, i am loving the game & i do find it a challenge even when playing the computer on regular setting (probably makes me shit at the game lol) which makes me want to improve even more. I think the lack of licences isn't an issue due to the edit more which is tremendous going by the pictures i have seen.
I think 09 is a huge improvement on 08 & i can only see the series going from strength to strength on the next gen consoles as the developers get to grips with the power of the hardware.
