Hello I`ve some problem playing against Barcelona when Eto is on the left and Henry on right my defenders (I`m playing Chelsea) can`t stop them. I need to know how to set formation settings to stop them, or tell me which team have the best defenders they have to be very very fast and strong. I`m looking forword your answers. Sorry for my English. Best regards from Poland

play 3 or 4 CB with left and right wingback on high def setting with counter-attack (3-5-2/4-5-1) 2 def mid in centre, Chelsea have one of the best defend in the game!!

(if u wanna play dirty footy, then hacked all the forwards down till they are injury or all your players on yellow cards!)

Well, there's nothing you can really do about it - that is Defense wisely. The only effective answer would be to use 2 Attackers with good Pace and hit the opponent in the same way.

And by the way, the best Defenders aren't usually fast - take a look at Cannavaro, Roberto Ayala, Jaap Staam, Bobby Moore, John Terry, Fernando Hierro, Hyppia, etc, etc.. so it's not because your defenders lack pace - it's just that defending is plain bad, the game is all about PACE AND ATTACKING.

This is one of the facts that disappoints me the most about PES 2008 - you're practically obliged into playing Direct Attacking Football, and of course EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON PACE (similarly to FIFA). Why?? Because firstly, Defending is literally a waste of time, there's no way of defending against opponents with good pace (such as Eto'o and Henry), and the Defensive Positioning is just plain ridiculous. And secondly, because Possession is as irrevelant as anything can get.

There's no way of playing either Tactical or Defensive Football effectively - and your practically obliged into playing Direct Attacking Football; lots of Pace, lots of Long Balls, and lots of Unsatisfying Goals. I suggest you place Ronaldo (AC Milan) at the front; his pace and dribbling skills are unstoppable , and you'll score goals very easily - just as with Thierry Henry, Samuel Eto'o, Leo Messi, Ronaldinho, the list keeps going.

While I agree that PES forces you to play attacking, fast paced football, I disagree that FIFA is the same. FIFA 08 allows you to slow down or speed up whenever you want, and generally plays a slower, more realistically paced football.

However, that you can't defend in PES against Henry, Eto'o and the like is nonsense. you can do it most of the time. Just take it easy, don't rush and throw your defenders at them, because, just as it happens in FIFA when you try that, you'll be dribbled and goaled. Mind you, PES 2008 is ridiculously unforgiving in this, and it's impossible to consistently end games with an unbeaten goalkeeper. When up against those players, any tiny error can lead to a goal. But if you defend well, you'll get more goals than the comp. 99% of the time.

One of the most important things about defending in this game is letting go of the sprint button. Use it sparingly. Another very important thing: don't pull your players too far out of position! That'll make them go crazy, collide between themselves, leave huge gaps, and so on. When the AI attacker has gone past you, he's gone past you. Don't waste any time by chasing him. Just select another player and approach carefully, without going too far to his right or his left. Look around the field and try to foresee the pass. All it takes is a lot of experience, and having suffered a lot of goals.

Search the forums, there was an excellent thread a few months ago where these matters were discussed in depth. I think "defense" or "defending" was in its name somewhere.

Anyway, here's a very good one too: http://www.pesgaming.com/showthread.php?t=54124

This is what I would do, I would play a 4 5 1, Drogba on his own with lampard right behind him, and play 2 defensive midfielders, and pressure with 2 players(square and x or X and A if xbox), henry and eto'o will have a hard time breaking through the midfield nevermind the defence, Barca are bloody tough, so don't snap at them and counter there attacks on the flanks as you will only have one player to get past which will be there full backs because they play henry and eto'o so far up. And then when you cross it in you have got one of the best players in the world in the air in Didier Drogba, keep repeating that and you shouldn't lose. Should be a very entertaining game to watch.
