Which Formation For Somebody With Limited Footy Knowledge?

I rarely watch football on TV (I know I know ) therefore I don't know as much about football as a lot of other people. I do really like playing football in real life & playing on consoles though.

Anyway, I figured seeing as I don't know a hell of a lot about different formations etc, that I'd just go with 4-4-2 as it seems like a decent all round formation.

But do you guys think that perhaps a different formation will be suited to me for Master League Online, or will 4-4-2 do me fine?

The best advice i can give you is: Try out different ones. 4-4-2. 4-5-1. 4-3-3 etc. What works best for you? what kind of playstyle do you play? Defensive counter attacking? Possesion football? It all comes down to what kind of player you are.

lol, I highly doubt he plays defensive counter or any sort of possession.

I imagine for 80% of Pes gamers their playstyle is "direct long ball"

That's actually something I hardly ever do. Longballs for me always seem to land at the opposition's feet, so I pretty much never do them. Unless I see an opportunity for a lofted through ball, but actual long balls/long passes are a rarity for me.

there are all kinds of ways you could play, just depends on what you want, but everything has pros and cons.

3-5-2, 3-6-1, 5-3-2, 5-4-1. But then you gotta tweak your teams playing style as well, and get the right players.

As said before it depends on how you want to play. Figure out your philosophy, then build a formation around it.

It's hard to give someone advice about what formation to use when we have no idea what sort of football you like to play in the first place. How do you like your teams to go forward and how you like them to defend, as in what do you expect from your players in these situations?

It's a bit like saying "I like food, I don't know lots about it so please recommend me something to eat". We would need to have an idea about your tastes first.
