which game is better?

ok, I just want to get some opinion on which one is better and why.
Choice are WE7 PS2, PES3 PS2, PES3 PC and FIFA 2004 xbox
I have a pretty good pc, so I shouldn't have any trouble running it.

the main reason I ask is because I want to start a champion league soon or career mode in fifa

and I just don't want to start playing then switch to another game then I have to start all over again.

thanks in advance

take it from someone who has both. PES is FAR better than Fifa. Fifa is good for about a week, at which point you realise you can only score 5 different goals (headed corner, long shot, tap in, free kick) which ALL look the same. The gameplay is tedious, the AI is poor and the game is rushed. GET PES.
If you have the option available to you I'd get it on PS2 as it has less bugs and there isn't any real difference between the PC and PS2 versions

Most here would agree that PES or WE are both better (more playable and compelling) than FIFA.

Most people will be using a PS2, some modified with chips to play imported or patched versions of the game.

e.g. WE7 is a Japanese/N. American import.

There is some growth among the PC playing contingent, but you'll have more options open to you using a PS2: option files can be exchanged over the interet using an X-port, and most 'patches' (i.e. modifications to the original games PES3 and WE7) will be for the PS2. See the Editing News on PESInsight's homepage, or the Editing/Patching forum here to see what's possible.

The BIG difference between FIFA and PES/WE to my mind is...

FIFA seems to be mostly about learning set moves that will always work in all situations. EA's tendency to offer 'special moves' makes the game like a Street Fighter-type game played on a football pitch. If your opponent knows more of those special moves than you do, you're sunk.

I left that series behind in disgust around the time of FIFA2000, that was when they introduced some spinning turn that left glitter sparkling your player's wake - and I could not accept that at all. No way, never.

I'd more of less conquered it anyway in a matter of days, and with no more to learn there wasn't much point in playing. £29.99, I still feel cheated!

Maybe FIFA have improved since, but I couldn't be bothered looking.

By contrast, in ordinary gameplay PES/WE relies on much simpler controls, and rewards all the things sideline coaches shout about - screening, sharp passing, making an extra man in midfield.

These simple moves seem much more subtle and variable than FIFA's. You can't just press a set sequence and have your players ping the ball about like a they were in a set dance going up the field - you have to work to win space and guide your passing and shots.

Although FIFA may shift more units, compare the devotion of each set of fans. Take a peek here:

I only bought my PS2 to play one game, PES2. And PES3 is a vast improvement.

The only caveat would be to say many who've played both PES3 and WE7, a lot prefer WE7. That would require either a 'chipped' PS2 to play on import, or a Non-European PS2 which you can purchase on-line.

I'd start with PS2, playing PES3, then consider an X-port which will allow you to take advantage of Option Files where people have updated and corrected team line-ups, kits etc.

thanks for the great reply, I live in US, and I love football, it just ashame that in US no one take football the way it should.

ok, here is the real issue, I have both WE7 and PES3 for ps2, I got it off ebay, they both worked great. and I just love both games

however, WE7 doesn't have english commentary which bother me a bit, beside that it is very good once I got the game all patch up. and I think it is harder compare to PES3 in some aspect of the game.

on the other hand, PES3, the load time is longer, special on the boot up screen, but it got everything is in english including commentary. but the game is easier compare to WE7, like header and cross and thing like that. and I got more slowdown compare to WE7 which is running flawless for me.

now here is the real question, I will start a ML in a day or so, should I start it in WE7 or PES3, which one will give me better? that is my problem, I just not sure which game since I got both.

chanv, contrary to what everyone here is saying, I'd slow your decision just a touch. The best way to go about your decision is to look at a few Game review websites, and compare the reviews. Gamespot's OK, they're pretty reliable I find. The thing is, as Cellini mentioned, is everyone (or most people) on these boards will tell you PES3 hands down, otherwise, why are they here?

You might want to browse a few FIFA boards as well, or a messageboard that covers both games if possible.

I haven't personally had the chance to play FIFA 2004 yet, so I can't comment.

However, I would recommend you go for the PS2 version, whichever game you decide. The PS2 pad is ideal for football games, and the control system is very good. Clearly, you can get similar joypads for the PC.

Also, you know that there's no chance of there being low frame rates, graphic glitches, required patches etc. A PC game will always be harder to get working to an optimum than a PS2 game, simply because they're designed for a wider spectrum of use.

Hope you enjoy whichever game you decide upon!

Looks like I was slightly lazy. Managed to miss the whole "I bought WE7 and PES3 off of e-bay" bit!

As for the English commentary thing, don't worry, you'd get more excitement out of a tin of original flavoured Pringles.

FIFA!? Forget that garbage :p. WE7 becuase of the easy patching capabilities. PES3 would be better if it was on CD. But damn those EU Languages! ;)

A little misleading there. Once you have ripped the PES3 DVD which you only need to do once, patching is just the same for PES3 as in WE7 - just as easy. At the moment, the better patches seem to be jonboyo's ones for PES3.

It's true, most people here will recommend PES3/WE over other footie games. It seems to me that chanv would be very happy playing a patched PES3.

I reckon Giggsy11 is the main man to advise on this issue as he plays both games, PES3 and fifa 2004.

I mean i could rip it Zy but personally I dont see the point. I just some of the X-port option files which are superb with kits, names and transfers. I need to sort my DVDRW drive out before considering ripping though! :) ;)

jag, don't start with this here please. You don't need a DVDRW drive to rip the DVD. Just a normal DVD-reading drive.

PS2 died in my arms tonight.

And after all that, my own PS2 just died in my arms last night, and with superb timing, my x-port just arrived in the post, but I can't use it!

It's as old as PES2 (2-3 yrs?), so I'd had to open it up and clean the laser eye a lot to get it to load up the DVD's over recent weeks. (Games and Audio on ordinary CD's will still load fine.

Has anyone re-built an old PS2 including installing a new Laser (best price £45) and added a mod-chip themselves? I reckon the price for both would be about £90, but I don't know about the practicalities of chipping.

Is it straight-forward for someone who isn't into soldering, and hasn't even got a soldering iron? Are there reliable chips that only require minimal risk to intall (I don't want to buy laser and chip then find I've broken either them or the PS2 by botching the install)?

With an x-port, would I be better off getting a new UK PS2 (best UK price £125) and sending the old one to a professional to fix and modify (£90 + labour and post)? That would leave me playing PES3 with option files, and eventuallly the old machine returns able to play patched versions of PES3, plus WE7, and WE7i when that's released.

In short, if your euro PS2 died, what would you do, fix it up yourself, get a pro to do it, buy a new one, or buy a pre-modded PS2?

Cellini mate, I think your last post should be in a new thread. That way more people would see it and respond to it.
