Why PES6 will fail if it is similar to WE10...:(

Hello everyone. I have been playing the series ever since ISS so i would like to think that i am no newbie as far as the PES and WE series are concerned. WE10 has some positive points when compared to PES5 & WE9 but when faced with the details it left me with a bitter taste of dissappointment since these details ruin the fun:

1. Fouls have been decreased BUT the ref is still quite biased

2. Tackles by the computer always gain the ball for it, where as tackles by the user do not. The cpu player always stays on his feet and the ball doesnt even bounce off him so that others can challenge it.

3. In situations were the ball is loose, the players on the user's team that are controlled by the computer react very slowly

4. Player switching is too slow and not accurate in order to give the user the chance to get over problem 3.

5. Computer team's defense is ludicrously anticipative. It's like they know where the user is going to go even before the user decides to do so. Same goes for turns of the user's player after a chest control.

6. Shot control and aiming is almost inexistent since several times the user might be aiming and using aftertouch to send the ball to the left side of the keeped but the ball goes the other way around. It is understandable that shots are not always the way we want them but this happens too often.

7. Crappy teams like Latvia for example (sorry if there are any Latvians reading this, but it really is one of the worst teams in the game) are unrealistically good. They control the ball like they are Brazilians and pass the ball and shoot like they've got Henry or Ronaldinho in attack!

Anywayz, more or less thats about it. I know most of you will say that i'm wrong etc etc, but I know the game pretty well, and I know what I'm talking about. All comments of course are welcome, except swearing:D. All observations were made while playing 15minute friendlys using 6******. Let me know what you think.

Although there are bad points in WE10 I wasn't expecting to see what you posted. The CPU teams have been cheating or getting a little extra help for a couple of versions now so that isn't new.

I think the makers have reached their limits with regards to AI so this could be why it behaves like this. Remember back in the days of PES2 and PES3 when people used to complain the 5* was too easy and they were winning every match 10-0. Well, we can thank them for cheating AI :D

The game is still very enjoyable for playing against other people, whether it's 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 2 etc.

Shots usually go where I want them to, so not sure what you're doing that's different to some of us. We can discuss that later.

I'm surprised you haven't mentioned how shit the goalkeepers are in this game. Well at least one positive to this new feature would be the reduction of cutback goals as it is much easier to score in a one-on-one situation, even with Peter Crouch :)

Try playing 10 minute matches on 5* and let us know what you think.

I am an American and have been playing the series since WE6. I have loved each and every one of the games because of all of the differences that come along with each series. I thought that the WE6 was an excellent first game for the American market because it game a real alternative to FIFA. It was a real football fan's game and not an arcade game. WE7 took the series to another level because it improved upon the gameplay of WE6 by adding more teams and making it even more realistic than 6. Then WE8 came along and really brought the series to the forefront here and may not have knocked FIFA off as sales go but the true football fan and video game football fan plays WE not FIFA. I think that WE9 is the most realistic and difficult of the series but I think that it was developed as only a game to keep the series alive until the next-gen systems come out. What I mean by that is that the graphics engine and presentation is pretty much the same as WE8 but with a few more bells and whistles and some gameplay tweeks. Don't get me wrong, I love WE9 because it's very challenging, much more than WE8 (i always play WE on 6*) but it's not very different from WE8 but WE8 was much different than WE7 or WE6. Do you understand what I mean? I think Konami is concentrating on the next-gen systems right now while still satisfying the demands of their current consumers. I love the series so much that I couldn't wait another year here for the new one so I bought a swap magic disk and purchased WE10 form Japan and I have to tell you that I love it. I think it's a combination of WE9 and WE8. It's slanted more towards offense(WE8) but has all of the great animations of WE9. I do think it is easier than WE9 though which is a bit disappointing but the Master League is deeper than in the past and the presentation is the slickest by far in the series. I also love the World Cup mode, which brings me to another point. I also think that this game was released so earlier to satisfy the Japanese craving for the upcoming World Cup. Japan is where they sell the most units of WE so they decided top bring this game out a few months earlier to sell more. Who isn't going to buy this game before the World Cup? That is one of the biggest reasons why I went through all the trouble to get this game. But I am a loyal fan of WE and always will be. One last thing, I don't know if I'm crazy or if all of my friends who play this game are crazy too, but none of us can understand why everyone thinks that FIFA looks so much better than WE. I just don't see it. I think that WE does a much better job graphically with the players. I would agree that the presentation on FIFA is better with the commentary and the fields look great but in the end who cares about that. It's the gameplay that matters and WE kills FIFA. Think about this, why is it every year that FIFA tries to emulate WE with features that exist in WE. They have even added the controls that WE uses. It's pretty strange that while FIFA still sells more copies they still have an insecurity complex in relation to the competion with WE. Anyway, sorry that this is so long but I always read the posts and have never written one and i felt like sharing my opinions with my British mates across the pond.

Cheating AI? Behave! Iv'e been playing PES since number 1 and before that the ISS games in N64. I never experience cheating AI and if i did, it doesnt effect my game. Stop whinging!

I've never experienced the things you've posted and I've played the game a ton. I am convinced that this "cheating AI" stuff is a myth; it seems extremely likely that the CPU responds in scripted ways to situations by the exact same rules which apply to players. That means that if you think the AI "cheats", it's probably just executing moves in a way in which you don't understand. I very highly doubt that the AI in the game operates by any different criteria; it is just a program that is scripted to respond to different situations in different ways. The physics and rulesets, in all likelihood, are identical between players and computer opponents.

Here is a great example, and I've posted this before but no one has paid it any particular attention: people say that the CPU gets away with messy play far more than players, and that the refs are biased toward the computer. The computer seems to commit a messy tackle and it's not whistled but the same sort of tackle is whistled for the player. HERE IS WHY: fouls are often only called in the game when there is another action queued up that was interrupted by the foul. The reason that the refs seem biased is because the computer *almost always* has his next action queued up. I don't know why it's like this, call it a bug or whatever, but it has *NOTHING TO DO* with the refs being "biased" toward the computer.

You can test this (and I'm sure most that have played the game a long time have noticed this by now), because you don't have to have queued up the action before the actual foul takes place; it can be performed *after* the tackle and *then* a foul will be called. Next time you see a messy tackle, as quickly as you can, push any button! Voila, the ref blows the whistle.

Along with every new we game several problems arise. Some have already existed and others are new, there's always problems no matter what but the changes in shooting and such won't matter it's just a fundamental adjustment and you'll get used to it.

Within a few months or so I get sick of the new games since theres so may problems....this will probably happen with this installment too, but for now this is a big step up from alot of the previous installments, the best since pes 3.

All they needed 2 was 2 make tha keeper more harder and not drop ball easily, plus if tha shots improved, includin tha fouls ,they nead 2 lighten on that,in pe5 ,a little barge ,foul foul,it pissed takin. and last of all but no least tha i heard tha gameplay has improved with graphics, tha main bad thing i see comin out of this is tha damned keeper and easy fouls. all they needed 2 improve these and wala tha game would be superb, wake up konami. i will start playin tha game from today, cant wait.

Nothing wrong with the fouls in the opinion of me and my friends. You can get away with a lot more than you could in PES5.

In my opinion WE10 is definetely a step forward from PES5 and the previous installments. Mainly because of the growth in gameplay, I thought PES5 was a smooth game but now with WE10 its very clear it could have been vastly improved. I'll give it my best go to argue in favour of WE10 here against each of your points:

1. In all honesty I don't think the refs are really biased, yeah they get a few decisions wrong but thats expected. The only problems I'd have with the referee is their inability to call a tackle which catches the ball and the man at the same time. Often I've slide-tackled an opposing player from a slight angle but fully won the ball as well as taking out the man, probably at the same time and more often than not I'll recieve a booking. However the improvement made on the niggling nudges is great, you'll maybe get pulled once or twice in a match now rather than the previous 10.

2. Its all about timing really, similar to the point above. When you go in directly from the side, they might swing for the ball in a slide tackle. This way you stop the player in his tracks and trp the ball in your feet thus giving you an advantage to sprint off or play the ball. I have noticed the AI get the majority of the lucky bounces which is fairly bad but its better than the niggly old fouls eh ?

3. I can't really disagree with you in this case, it happens too much and can be annoying. Although if it occurs I try to press L1 and control someone manually if possible or just quickly tap L1 repeatedly until I reach the closest player to the ball.

4. I don't really see any problems with player switching, its been improved upon certainly. However I sometimes mess this L1 swtiching up in defense when I panic with opposing players charging through.

5. Again I can understand why you say that. The trick to this is wing forwards, I have a speed demon by the name of Obinna and play a ball to him and let him sprint. I usually play the 1-2's as they come off nicely.

6. The shot accuracy seems to have suffered this installment I agree, even from 5 yards out they seem to put it wide too often. Once out of 15 is enough to make it seem realistic yet it happens maybe 5 times of out 15. I have even missed 2 open goals from around 6 yards out, clear easy shots but the players missed, quite silly really.

7. I can't comment on this issue really as I haven't checked their stats yet.

What I find most annoying, is not the gameplay, but just simple things within the rest of the game, mostly with the master league.

I have some other issues with it - I want to make World and European all-stars, how is this done? As far as I can tell, you can't do it. You can't move players from licensed teams, or to licensed teams, and it removes them from their original team anyway. Also, I want to put Garrincha in Classic Brazil, he should be there anyway? I can't find a way to do it, and I've looked enough. I'd love someone to correct me on these points, and tell me how to do it, but if not then it's a bit of an annoyance.

we10 is definately a step forward.. much better/smoother gameplay.. it has to be played in multiplayer (with mates) to fully appreciate the advancement... all versions will lack something when playing the comp, that's a given, as AI can never replicate a human opponent.

we10 rocks.

it is indeed a stepforward from previous versions. However something I find really disapointing is that the difficulty level is kind of low, I mean it's too easy to beat AI even at 6*, I remember back to WE4's days, when i started playing the game, it was almost impossible to beat AI at level 3 (Hard), it took me like 3 months to win my first master league at the hardest level. Since WE8 I've noticed the games have become a lot less challenging, maybe it is just me... They should make it harder yet more realistic...

It's because you're getting better at the game. People keep complaining about the difficulty, and I don't know why. If you play it as much as some people do, you will ALWAYS find the game too easy, that's just how it is. Computer AI could never been hard enough to offer a decent challenge without cheating. It's like with Perfect Dark on the N64 - people complained that Goldeneye on the hardest setting was too easy (you played the fucking game for 6 hours a day, every day for 2 years, what the fuck do you expect?) So they added in "perfect" bots for multiplayer, which had twice the amount of health, and scored a headshot on you 100% of the time, they were impossible to kill by regular means. Oh, and everyone complained they were unfair.

Just play the game against better players, in 2 player or online.

Man I have to agree with the first post with this thread in some of it's points. I mean I find that the cpu reacts so much faster than the player. And i'm very much convinced the cpu knows where yu will move the second you press the direction on the controller whether yur attacking or defending.

I've actually tested this theory by running at full speed towards and attcking cpu and randomly guessing which way he will turn to avoid the tackle. The CPU always avoids the tackle every single time. When I run at full speed it give the cpu very little time to react and basically it's a gamble whether I will win the tackle. But the cpu "guesses" right way each time.

I also find that players accelerate so quickly wen attacking and it's hard to keep up with the movements when your defending. I also find that (not jsut for WE10) the conservative tackle or "press" tackle doesn't neccesarily go for the ball or anticipates how to intercept a ball based on it's direction and speed, but rather chases the player with the ball, and therefore again making it difficult to tackle properly.

Another point, is with the shooting. I really don't enjoy shooting as much in this WE. I hit the goal post sooo many times, it's really not realistic. Also the keeper drops waaay too many shots even easy ones. I find that most times shots either miss badly, hit the post or go right to the keeper who fumbles it. Even wen you score the ball is still near the keeper, but somehow he falls and can't react in time to save it. Some of the keeper saves are very cool tho.The volleys on the other hand are pretty nice to do. But regular shots sometimes also are too weak wen yur not running at full pace. They should have left the way you shoot in WE9, it's the best to me.

Overall tho there are lots of stuff they improved on, but the faults are annoying. I played games on 5* using liverpool. I played real madrid brazil, chelsea etc.

Correction to my above post....I don't mean WE9 is best of the series, i meant to say i prefered the shooting in that one.

I know everyone goes on about the biased AI and refs but to be honest, I think that in itself makes the game more realistic. we've all seen those games when absolutely nothing goes your teams way, shots hit of the bar, the keeper has a blinder and the ref wouldnt give your team a foul if it jumped up and bit him in his arse. Its part of football.

and the best part is when all that happens and you still score a 93rd minute winner from 30yards!

im sorry but most national team players can pass decently and control the ball in atleast 80% of situations and can shoot around the 18 yard box no matter who it is, my 13yr old cousin can shoot from about 23yrds on target mate.

i feel u on the shooting problem and i have 4 a couple of seasons now!!!!too often i get into a gd position and he decides to smack at the approacing defender, fair enuff a gd block??i luk on the replay and hes hittin it ludacrisly wide, way 2 often. they often jus smak it at the keeper too. despite these i love the game. the AI has bin improved a little in attack, but still they need to be willing to shoot more often frm distance!!!wen with ppl like gerrard!!

shootin on this seems 2 be soft, havent scored any beltas yet really. skills are gd n running with the ball, n playin human opponenets is gd 2!!
