We've all played them, the annoying bastards who are usually shit at pro but, when playing you online, sneak the first goal then spend the whole of the second half passing the ball between their goalkeeper and defenders.

There are a fair few people who do this and i cant stand them! Personally i would rather lose than win by doing this. I buy PES because i like playing the game, i couldnt stand just passing it around my defence for the last half hour, it would be incredibly boring, i have a life and really dont care if some guy on line can beat me at PES.

On the last pro, it was hard to get the ball off them when they do it, you can call for a second player to put pressure on the man with the ball but any half decent passer of a ball can keep possesion for the majority of the half. My question is whether people think there is anything the new edition can do which will make it more difficult (or if there is something people do already which i havent figured out!)

An online mode without lag will be great and i look forward to trying to beat my highest position on the 360 version (on 2008 i managed at one point to be ranked 112th), but if people can bore you to death and sneak a win against you by doing this old favourite, it will annoy me beyond belief.

To avoid that, I created a special formation 2-3-5 that I activate with the strategies (cross, square, triangle, ...) during the game.
This formation is full-attack with 5 strikers and it's really good at pressing the defense :)
The timewasting idiot is forced to pass the ball quickly... It's risky but... it's a way.

I agree.

If people are time-wasting, counter it by changing tactics and moving all your players further up the pitch.

Like this guy says, it's a definite risk, but when you're able to put more pressure on the opponent, chances are they'll think again before trying to time-waste.

And time-wasting is all part of football anyway. At least when this happens online, you're not COMPLETELY powerless to stop it.

fair enough, i'll give that a try.

Aye, timewasting is part of football, but no team manages to keep the ball in defence for half an hour! Also, even when just time wasting for the last 5 minutes or so in game, it only takes a minute or so and all your time has gone, you dont get a chance to get the ball back. In real football, if a team tries to timewaste for the last 5 minutes, the opposition are almost certain to win either a throw in or a free kick during that time, at least meaning they can regain possession.

I dont mind people doing it for the last 5 mins, its just a minor irritation, but sitting in front of my television for half an hour ingame (often about 8 minutes or so i would guess) watching someone pass the ball around without my players being able to get close to it is just fucking annoying. It is such a waste of time- maybe the sad bastard doing it has nothing better to do with his life but, if he doesnt want to play the game properly, id much rather be able to do something else (but i dont like just quitting and gifting them a win!)

I'll give the tactics thing a try though, cheers

There will always be cheaters, but it's less likely if you play people from here. Problem is that wont get your rank up.

Seabass was talking about eventually having people refereeing online, which would most probably improve this.

people refereeing on line could be a great idea (assumin gthey are unbiased like!) the only trouble is that people timewasting arent, technically, breaking any laws of the game, so unless something could be awarded in game for "ungentlemanly conduct" (which would make the game less realistic) there isnt really much people can do about it (other than making passing a lot more difficult than it currently is so that passing along your defence could end up being a huge risk, as it often is in real life)

will be new to online play so may'be shit at pes will would rather go down 10-0 than defend for the hole game, though hopefully can nick that one precious goal that puts a smile on my face.

What's the point of defending for the entire game? My style of playing on PES is extremely attacking, I get bored of defending. Even for the people who would rather win at any cost, where's the fun in not playing? Even if I'm one-nil up with a little while to go, I'll go all out for the second =)

some people just play for the PES points or whatever they are and not to enjoy the game

i hate this as well, its never really happened to me though, possibly because i played 08 online 3 times and one of them was a player match against a mate. i find that having your cursor change on manual helps, if not as soon as he passes the ball the guy you have been chasing with will cease to be under your control, so what i do is have it set to manual, press the defender in possesion, he passes then i mark his next option and press X to call somebody to the man in possession, so then the cpu on my team will press for the ball whilst im marking or anticipating his next pass

Yeah I hate this as well, probably a bunch of italian supporters that play the game this way since the italian national team plays the same way...get a goal and defend for the rest of the match.

I'm always trying to get as many goals as possible, I don't want to beat my opponent, I want to humiliate him :)

when people do this to me, i always report them (on the 360 there is some sort of option to report people for bad sportsmanship etc)- hopefully if enough people report the players who do this, they will be kicked off xbox live. It just spoils what should be a fun pastime (although sometimes i think its worth it for the one time in 10 when they fuck it up, pass it to you and you go on to score the equaliser!)

i rmember some lucky fucker that got a 2 goal lead against me he just kept passing it and fouling my players if i got the ball.

The funny thing was i manager to score 2 goals in injury time to go to extra time and then finished him off in extra time. the sweetest moment of the day that was. hahahahah was my message if i recall properly.

The funny thing is if he/she didnt foul me all the time there wouldnt have been so much injury time and he would of won.

There will always be cheaters,

How the fuck is keeping the ball and passing it around cheating?

Its called tatics, deal with it and up your game. And when you get the ball maybe you could pass it around, a bit!

Its called FOOTBALL! If the other palyer is passing the ball around his defence, then the question has to be asked, what the hell are your team doing? Not closing down? What?

c'mon even the commentaors give you a big clue during the game, ever heard "as long as the opposition has possesion, you ain't going to score"

Fair enough if it's the last minutes of the game but going one nil up in the first ten minutes then just passing it around the back four for the rest of the game just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

All within the rules of the game but frowned up by me and many others.
