niall mcginn like paddy mccourt most likely wont get any first team action at celtic, both where signed due to the fact a better manager in the spl had both these deals rapped up and strachan being the useless git he is flashed the cash at the last minute, and flood same was playing well in spl and a threat against celtic so yet again strachan waved cash, won't feature much

Yea whenever iv seen McGinn play i hav been very impressed, a very good winger with great pace and can deliver excellent crosses! But I suppose it will be a big step up for him in the SPL so time will tell if he has what it takes. Still, wanna get the Celtic team fully updated, thats the main thing! :)

mc court is dross mcginn looks as if he has some potential and flood will play as a midfield spoiler , someone who breaks up attacks, abit like neil lennon.

cant se flood being a lennon-a-like! he'll have to improve to get a game.

mind you, if boruc keeps it up maybe he'll get aidens place!

It's usual Old Firm policy to mop up all the local talent (and I include N. Ireland/Ireland) they can get their hands on. Rangers & Celtic plunder the likes of Hibs for their best young players: Thomson, Brown, Caldwell, Whittaker... At least those players have played but the likes of McCourt are decent players but may never get anywhere near settling in the first team. Obviously Celtic has a big pull for Irish players who will go to their boyhood heroes with, perhaps, the vain hope of ever making it. And then there is Mizuno who was bought in to keep Nakamura company. He's a good player too and has played a little bit but if, when Nakamura goes whither Mizuno?

Personally I'm not sure about Strachan's recruitement policy. Of the two OF teams Celtic have a bit of spare cash (Rangers have none). But he's signed loads of players that just languish in the reserve team because they are there to make up the numbers or are just not good enough: Crosas and Donati, for example - which is which? ;)

As for Flood? He's been excellent at Dundee Utd. and is capable of getting into the Celtic first team but that's a tough midfield to get into when there's already McGeady, Hartley, Robson, Crosas, Brown, Nakamura....

pretty spot on there. and as a Celtic fan, it irritates the hell out of me. it's almost like Strachan just writes a bunch of names on a wall and throws a dart blindfolded and buys whoever he hits. then if he doesn't instantly get along with said player, (e.g., Riordan), then they have no chance of playing, no matter their skill level. grrr.

I like Strachan well enough and he's a decent manager but yeah, rather random with his team selection at times. Don't get me wrong, couldn't care less if they win the SPL or not but as representatives of Scotland I'd like to see them do better in Europe than the debacle this season. I also think he restricts the potential of the team somehow, seems to squeeze the life out of 'em and consequently they can often play the sort of tedious football that make Stein turn in his grave. That OF match today was rank rotten!!! Good to see Flood play and thought he acquitted himself better than most.

As for Deeks, he's scoring the goals in a distinctively average Hibs team this season...

Anyways, sorry, getting this thread way of track!
