Why don't Sony just make SingStar multi platform? Think of the monies and the inevitable awesome amount of songs :)

My Xbox 360 = RRoD.

:faceplm:

:(:( Unlucky mate.

What's the procedure when you get the 'Red Ring of Death'? How long does it take for Microsoft to pick it up, and get you a new one?

Is there any way you can fix it yourself?

When you phone Microsoft to book a repair, they normally send a UPS delivery man to pick it up within two-working days, this has always been the case with me. The UPS man then takes it to their plant in Nurnberg, and I received mine back from there within two weeks, like promised by the guy at Microsoft. I also received a free 1 month Live gold subscription card.

There are ways you can fix it yourself, but, it's dodgy and not really worth the risk, unless it's out of warranty anyway.

If you bought your xbox within a year and have the reciept then you can just take it back to the shop and the shop claims the money back from microsoft so you dont have to be without your xbox for 2 weeks

BELIEVE
I haven't technically bought an Xbox 360, my dad give me and my brother it for Christmas in 2006 as a joint present. Early this year it broke, can't remember whether it died due to the RRoD but I sent it back as usual via the UPS delivery and got it back within 2 weeks. Strange thing was, it wasn't my Xbox as mine had a few distinct black marks on the top plus I written down my serial number. My 'new' Xbox clearly wasn't new either as it had some marks and scratches on of its own and a different serial number to clarify it wasn't my previous one. So by the looks of it, they just shipped me someone elses 2nd hand Xbox.

Hopefully this time Microsoft will send me a brand spanker, one that doesn't sound like a fricking plane when it's on at least. I have to constantly double my volume when watching DVD's on it purely because the plane drowns out the speech on the DVD.

I've heard lots of people actually get different consoles back from Microsoft, and this is supposed to cut the waiting down for customers.

I never made any notes on the serial number to see if the one I received back was mine, or whether it was someone else's.

I read a few weeks ago, this guy sent his xbox back five times, since getting it, and Microsoft ended up giving him an elite instead of the 20gb version he sent away. Don't know how true this is though.

That's absolutely disgraceful.

Its proberly the ones that have been repaired from the shops or something because i cant see them chucking them out when they can be fixed. If that was the case they would need a scrap yard for all the 360s that have broken

That was my theory, but still, they could have cleaned it up a bit, made it at least appear to be new. I've made a note of the serial number for this one I'm sending off, so I know full well what the deal will be. If anything happens that shouldn't I might just complain and see what sort of deals I can squeeze out of Microsoft. With it being so close to the Christmas holidays, if I somehow don't get it back in time I will be going barking beyond all belief, I'll probably demand an Elite. I deserve one in fairness, and my friend too who has had about 6 headsets in 1 year. :faceplm:

Waiting....
I bought a new one - Arcade version, from Currys - when mine RRODed. I also bought replacement cover for about £25, so if I it breaks for whatever reason, I can take it back to Currys and get a brand new one. I guess, if I wanted to, I could purposely break it a week or so before the cover runs out and I'll effectively be getting a new console for £25. But then again, a next-next gen console will probably come out.

I don't know how many headsets I've gone through. They just seem to break for the fun of it. I don't use the headset often on live anyway, only when I'm playing with a friend.

I've never had any problems with headsets myself to be honest, I guess I've just been lucky. I'm on my 2nd headset since I got the Xbox 360 late 2006. My 1st headset recently died a few months ago, but it had endured everything, I spilt jam on the fuzzyhead, also yoghurt and toothpaste, not to mention the general wear and tear. My 2nd one has been working spot on too since I got it a few months ago, my friends have resorted to wireless headsets but to be honest I'd rather stick with my wired ones, they're reliable for me, plus I never have to charge them and all that bother.

I'm hoping that as mine is one of the newer consoles (with HDMI port etc) it won't get the RRoD?
