It must have depended on the team, i was facing barca on top player and they were closing my defenders down when i had the ball

Well I downloaded this last night after I read some mixed reviews on here, I have to say though it was like playing PES 2009 rather than the much older versions I fell in love with. Very disappointing.

I played 8-10 games. There were very few new animations, the gameplay was still the same as the previous 2 PES games, I WANT to love PES again but Konami seem to have lost something since the game came onto current gen consoles.

The graphics were spot on you cannot argue that, the players faces looked incredibly realistic (although FIFA's faces aren't "cartoony" as many of you die hard PES fans will make out, the PES faces are better)

I have noticed some people saying the build is old and that it will improve, but surely some of these people are the same who played the FIFA 10 demo, again an old build, and have written that off straight away.

For me, it's perhaps only a slight improvement on last years, and thats in the players appearances, I couldn't get into the gameplay and it felt like I'd put 2009 in to play. The shooting animations were all the same, the celebrations were all the same (Yaya Toure jumping on Messi's back without even touching him).

The menus had received a lot of praise on these forums too, I don't understand that, they were too flashy and the preview of the kits on a slant? What is that all about? Pointless and very ugly looking. The tactical side of the game seems a bonus, nice and in depth but overall, 80% build or not, I was hugely disappointed especially with the hype that WENB gave it, as they do every year mind.

I have no doubt that the majority of people here will part with their money for it, but I won't be. I will happily drop FIFA once PES returns with a good current gen game, but until then I won't be spending my hard earned (I use that term rather loosely since I'm at work this very moment, so hard work isn't something I'm used to) money on PES but will happily part with it for FIFA, a much more entertaining game, both single and multiplayer last year and I'm sure that will continue with FIFA 10.

Please leave out the bashing, this is a feedback thread, I'm giving my feedback on what I see as a very average game, this is my opinion, I have already read people saying that PES 2010 is going to be king again, I think they're deluded but they're entitled to their opinion.

I got bad repped in a different thread for saying it wasn't a big deal that Eto'o was still at Barcelona in a screenshot by saying it takes 2 minutes to transfer them using the edit mode. He said what I'd wrote was 'disgraceful'. Bloody baffled to be honest.

Some members of this site just don't like hearing that other members aren't hardcore PES fans, I was when I signed up, I'm just not anymore, that's not down to a change of heart, it's down to Konami getting lazy and EA bucking up their ideas.

I'd give the demo 4.5/10

I've tried it on PS3 and PC and I must say I like it. It definitely seems quicker to me. The graphics are very, very good, even better than 2009. Ball control seemed a bit iffy at first but soon got used to it. Penalties a bit of a shock but it doesn't really make a lot of difference to how you go about taking them and generally the TV angle would be this way.

On PS3 it's awesome; on my low-spec PC it plays pretty well but I do need some more ram!

good for you, i dont care if people prefer fifa to pes but when they start going "pes shit, suck balls!!!!" that's when it is annoying.

plus i agree, edit mode is there for a reason

Have you tried the manual keeper? I have, can you only move him around or choose dives, etc as well

The game is brilliant, and I can crown it the winner this year if Konami can get the online right. I downloaded both Fifa and PES demos and PES wins by a large margin. The graphics are awesome, the feel for pass and shot is uncomparable to any football game i played.

The pace is on spot. I know many people has some issues with game, but there is no perfect game.

However, I will not buy it first day until I make sure that online is fixed. I will not buy Fifa, all I can say it is a boring game and doesnt give me any excitment playing or scorring goals.

Played the demo, and it feels like it's getting back to where it should be...

I only managed 4 or 5 games, but I have a question about first time shots that I haven't been able to test myself.

On previous PES' when an opposing defender cleared the ball out of the area and my midfielder was crying out to blast it in the top corner (or more often, row z!!) I would press shoot to the power I want, wait for the ball to get to the player and he would strike it.

I couldn't get the players to do that on the demo. Now is this a bug\something to be fixed, OR as I may suspect, you actually now have to time these shots? Like I said, didn't get enough time to try this out myself!!

I must say I fully endorse what ads as said above. What a complete let down PES has truly become each year! I wouldn’t even touch FIFA a few years ago due to the ridiculous, one dimensional way it played out – now however it really is becoming the simulator and PES the arcade bash about.

I honestly thought for a minute that I’d mistakenly selected to play the demo from last year such is the familiarity of gameplay in this years offering. The graphics are wonderful that is for sure and to see player’s faces look so close to the real thing gives this game a boost however with the aforementioned problems it will just go to waste.

Massive massive let down Konami and you haven’t to date managed to capture the essence of current gen hardware like you did with last gen – PES on the PS2 was simply awesome!

Played two games late last night and straight away could feel the game play more realistic game also flows at a better pace, and if edit options live up to last years game its going to be a cracker.

Played the demo. Much better than pes 09 but there were some things which I don't like.
Sometimes the defence leaves out open spaces which clearly aren't that good. Maybe because of the difficulty which was regular? Anyway, I want it improved.
Response is an issue but not a major one. But I am happy that it is fixed now.
Through balls take time to work. Maybe I need to learn how to pass the ball through the defence.
.

I think the problem about the defence is a bug. I mean it's not possible.. maybe it's related to team styles and strats I don't know but it'll be fixed. I don't see how they can release it like this.

About the responsiveness I agree with you, I don't even see it as a "problem" since I think it's just because we got used to the 08/09 crazy fast style and we'll just need time to readjust ourselves to a slower gameplay but it's great if it's fixed anyway..

Oh it's funny it's exactly the opposite here, I've found through balls a lot easier, especially high ones.

I managed one game due to time constraints, and I immediately thought Fifa would get most of my attention this year. I've been buying both games for a while with the exception of fifa '08, but I might actually be tempted to buy just the one, and it's looking more likely to be fifa.

I'm not trying to flamebait here, but I can't honestly put my finger on what I dislike about PES this year. I found otu straight away that it is better than PES '09. But early build or not, I felt a lot of their promises were left out.

No, the most annoying isn't "PES sucks compared to Fifa" but "PES 10 is JUST LIKE PES 09" :D

I prefer the game to PES2009, but when compared to Fifa 10, PES2010 just feels slow and clunky, the animations haven't been improved, only the lighting effects and the players faces have seemed to change but even saying that you can't see the players faces that well because of the lighting, or maybe it's just my tv settings, also who said this game has 360 movement? it blatenly doesn't if anything it's most likely 16 directions.

Just had a quick game on my PS3, Barcelona vs Liverpool, I was playing Barcelona, I really love the graphics in PES, they have done a great job. However, as soon as I received a pass just outside of the box, I immediately wanted to shoot at goal, but it was so un-responsive that by the time I pressed the "shoot" button, I already had a defence player block the shot, there is alot of lag !! Pes 2009 does not have this !!

But that's the truth mate, it is just like PES 2009.

There are very, VERY few differences, if any at all.

Damn how can you say this

I've noticed the difference immediately after the kick-off.

I could feel the 360° dribbling, some new nice animations and my first attempt at shooting from 30 yards made me shout like no man :D

After 5 games, I tried PES 09 again, and rofl..

I don't know, I understand how some people may not like it, but it remains mysterious to me how some think it's just like PES 09..

Do you play with an analog stick and move in more than 8 directions ?

also who said this game has 360 movement? it blatenly doesn't if anything it's most likely 16 directions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b8JkFiYqMU

I've posted this in another forum. If you find 16 directions in this quarter cirlce you need a protractor.

No seriously there's 360° but several reasons make it less evident.

1) Slow responsiveness - is fixed in the review version
2) Hardware limitations - if you controller sucks
3) Old Habits - after being used 10 years to move in 8 directions, you need time to lose that habit and start taking different angles

If PES 2010 is like 2009, what would you say about Fifa. Tell me one good addtion beside the 360 movement in FIFA? PES 2010 is brilliant and very enjoyable, unlike the boring fifa.

I hope I don't steer this into a PES 10 and FIFA 10 argument. But from FIFA they improved their responsiveness whereas PES seemed to have decreased it slightly.

I'm playing PES 10 now to see if I can get used to it, as I'm blaming my familiarity with the game on thinking it is worse than it actually is.

I won't get into a FIFA v PES 2010 debate, but what I will say is that both games essentially are very similar to last years versions, but the important factor is that FIFA 09 was good and PES 2009 was crap.

Damn how can you say this

Yeah I play with the analogue stick and move in 16 directions.

The game isn't good. It's just not. PES 2007 wasn't, PES 2008 wasn't, PES 2009 wasn't and neither is PES 2010.

PES was amazing in the PS2 days, really amazing, it beat FIFA into the ground with it's incredible gameplay. Since the move to current gen PES hasn't stepped up. FIFA did last year and seemes to have ironed out a few flaws from last years after listening to it's fans.

The little things Konami used to do that set them apart. Edit mode for instance, which during PS2 days was the best edit mode bar none, I used to spend hours and hours tweaking little bits from the game to make it even better when playing, the edit mode wasn't even in PES 6 on current gen, pathetic. Custom boots, mixed kits, all star matches, matches with random selections from 4 teams - all brilliant additions from Konami which fans loved, and yet they were removed. Absolutely ridiculous.

PES has fallen so far behing FIFA and even further behind it's own high standards from versions for previous gen consoles.

Very much agree with you on your first point. After a couple of games of the demo, I'd just about say it's an average game. The players glide across the pitch, crossing can be shocking at times (same as fifa) and I don't quite feel the fluidity either. I really hope that the full game is a different thing, because if they only i,prove it slightly, i think fifa will win this year again. no doubt though I will be getting PES :D

It seems that the 'blind faith brigade', Konami's target audience they rely on to sell their below par product each year, is as prevalent as ever on here :erm:
