The 'How are you doing at Become A Legend mode' thread.

Papa

Thank you for reading.
Started this mode last night quite drunk after a night out so I'm looking forward to seeing later just how much my guy looks like me! I'm thinking not at all. Did quite well in the scout match considering my state, scoring two goals and was picked up by Stade Rennais. In the first practice match I played quite well but somehow managed to hit the bar from about 4 yards out! I wish I had captured it to show you. Think Bobby Zamora against Man City. Well at least it came back off the bar and my teammate headed in. Embarrassing though!

I started BAL a few days ago, now I'm nearly halfway through my second season. Top player (I'm thinking about switching to professional though given the clues about the AI by someone around page 2 I guess) AMF.

After a well played scouting match I got a rating of 6.5 (well, no goals/assist but a few intercepts and good passes), signed for Valladolid in Spanish League (I've decided not to go for big clubs too early, I'm still dreaming of becoming a star in a lower club and then being picked up by a powerful team, just sounds realistic to me given that I do not start off as a talent). During 8 training games (last one being in the A-team) I scored 2 and laid on another 2 goals, started getting subbed in during league matches, where I was able to score 5 and assist another 2 during the rest of the season. Feels like a 17-year-old trying to get a grasp of professional football, I guess. As I've said before, I decided to stick to Valladolid for some time and now I'm playing two games from the beginning in every three matches. No goals or assists so far in the 2nd season though, it's gotten kind of hard lately, the AI just doesn't seem to play as well as it used to.

Now a few quick observations:
-I tend to use a whole lot of parentheses;
-Strengthen points are no longer the better source of stats, game experience seems to be around 60-70% of the growth now;
-AI seems to be way different from the previous release's, but still annoying at times. One of the best examples is a game against Sevilla, where the defence line of my team was doing nothing but simply moving backwards, neither pressuring nor tackling any of three attackers of the opponent. Kanoute and co. were able to simply walk into my box eventually scoring an easy goal. Just for the record, team style settings are 60 in pressure and 65 in back line;
-Teammates still tend to walk straight into opposition players or carry the ball outside the field while not under pressure at all;
-Somebody said assists are easy to get in this year's release; I'd say they are hard for me, as an AMF playing nearly directly behind our target man I tend to play through the middle and most of through passes venture into the gloves of the GK, early crosses are a joke, but still the most annoying thing is that should any opponent touch the ball in even the slightest way, there'll be no assist at all.

There's more to rant about considering the AI, but those are the most annoying issues. I'll post some screens of my player when I finish the season.

^if you press the R trigger, or the button you use for the controlled shot, (side shot) the same as you would for a shot but for a through pass you get some realy nice weight on your passes and wont overhit them

give it a try :rolleyes:

^ ^ ^ what difficulty though cus mom could score that many goals in a season on begginer or regular play on top player to get the best out of the game for god sake

You're wrong dude, the game is best on Professional in BAL mode.

- You get closed down
- Your team mates doesent start with a handicap vs AI players
- AI teams still make the occational defence errors (other than you stealing the ball from the last defender wich is basically the only error on Top Player)
- AI teams score a lot of goals
- AI top scorers doesent score 40 goals in every competition (meaning you can become top scorer with 19-20 goals for a change)
- Your teams ratings average at 6.0 to 7.5, same as AI teams.
- AI players with lower Top Speed and Accelration than you won't inheretly be faster than you all the time.

Top Player should be avoided at all costs in BAL mode if you are looking for a balanced, fun and as realistic as possible (in PES2010) experience.

After all, the difference between Professional and Top Player is mostly the amount of AI scripting.
Once you take the lead on Professional you notice the opponents gets more offensive, giving you counter attacks that you can exploit if you're good and lucky.
On Top Player the same scenario occurs, except the pressure from AI team will result in a goal 95% of the time and your chances to exploit a counter attack is reduced to be purely based on luck.

Playing the game on Top Player isn't important just to boast about it on the forums either, it's just a difference in taste.

Interesting..
I would want to try this out..but..just a question..
Do you struggle in BAL in Top Player difficulty as compared to Professional?

No I don't, the only difference between the two is that on Top Player I have to do everything myself, while on Professional my team can win even if I don't score or make an assist.
Also, at professional the defenders aren't Hiro Nakamura like they are on Top Player.
On Professional level I score the occational dream goal, long shots and volleys and almost no headers because I get just enough time to position myself for volley instead.
I manage fine on Top Player but I rarely score those dream goals here because I shoot / pass / sprint away from any defenders closing in due to fear of being suckerpunched off the ball by teleportation.
Headers and rebounds are my source of goals at this difficulty, but I usually get a tad more assists because im not quite as selfish in front of goal at Top Player.

If you use Cheat Engine's speed hack and put the gamespeed to 50% and play a match on Top Player you will notice that defenders can phase through your player and steal the ball, while it rarely / never happens on Professional level.

Make no mistakes though, the game is unbearably boring at 50% speed, I just got suspicious after losing the ball under strange circumstances on several occations and decided to investigate the phenomenon and discovered this.

Professional is basically Top Player with less AI cheating, hence a better simulation in my opinion.
Regular would probably been the best if KONAMI had not removed defenders ability to close down at this difficulty level.

I've reached 85 in stamina with my player and after playing next match I noticed that game experience points do not go into stamina anymore. Watched my brother play his game, he has 3 stats of 85+ and none of them is improving by experience points either. Is it coded into the game and only focus points may improve those skills now, or do they need A LOT effort put into them during a match to improve by game experience points, does anyone know?

Thanks in advance (even though I feel I know the answer already)

Long wall of text about Professional being a better and more fun experience then Top Player.

Interesting. I do play on Top Player and it does feel like I should be the one to take offense into my own hands more than I should.

I might try to go down and see how it feels, if only for the extra help from my teammates.

I prefer a realistic gameplay over a repeated one where I usually score all goals in my teams, unless I give them the chance or they get a lucky shot.

It's not HARD to score on Top Player. It's to score in many different ways, in my opinion.

@Macheda
how do you do the fake-shot? Something's wrong with PES2010 it seems..
I used to do it in earlier games using Shoot button + Pass button..obviously it has been this way always..but it just doesn't happen in PES 2010 for me..the player just passes or shoots the ball off..
Can you help?

Still no answer to this question people..
Shed some light on this issue please..

Ok, I get that you need to work your way up from being a no name player, but even the worst professional player can has some level of talent.

Starting out a career with someone who is so shit is just taking the piss really.

Why can't we start with at least a half decent player and have a more gradual rise to the top? I mean the way this game seems to think is that I can take Neil Mellor and make him into Raul.

I'd be happy with the practice match and then based on that performance the you get X amount of points to allocate as you wish.

For instance, if you got a rating of 5.0 you might only get another 200 points, if you got an 8 rating, 1000 points.

^I think the point is to show how hard that is, that's why all the bad stats. If they were much better then the game would become much easier.

I do appreciate that the idea of the mode itself is to build a player, but I think one of the best implementations of this is in *gasp* Fifa 10. Whereby you get a certain amount of points you allocate to the skills you want to use.

Going through the first match and then being given an arbitrary amount of talent seems a bit off and old fashioned.

Everything else about this mode just works for me, and no, I'm not having a sook and claiming I'll stop playing, because I won't.

I was just venting after missing three gilt edge chances, one from the six yard box which looked more like goal kicks than shots on goal despite not even a quarter of the power bar being full.

I just think having more of an imput into your starting stats would be better, especially for those looking to make different styles of players. Also, removing a hard cap on strting agility based on position would be nice.

I agree that we should have more control over stats. But the thing I like about BAL is that the match EXPERINCE points go up on how well you do in that department in every game. So basically you still have some control. It just depends on how you play.

i think having control over what points youd get would ruin it i think they should make mini training games for your player to focus on each stat so you could have three training sessions before a match to build up some certain areas of stats and depending on how well you do in that training match and also how good your teams facilities are you get even more points i think that would justify almost a realistic way of building stats..

Personally, I want to play games. Less training matches as possible. :mellow:
