BAL is "Rather Poor"

Dont buy this game if you like BAL mode.... its terrible stick with the old one.

They have extended the use of turning your team into retards instead of playing better opposition. You will only end up trading it in when you spend countless hours watching your defence not bother to tackle or get the ball and run backwards and spin around over and over until they get tackled.

I agree , BAL is completely unplayable for me ,its a waste of time.

I could ignore the stupid transfers that seem to happen alot more than in the previous PES , but the AI is utter shit...

Once you play at Barca ( supposedly the best possession team in the world ) and ur players keep losing the stupid ball countless times like retards ( specially defenders ) which lets the opposition run at your goal, and players like Messi ( whos the best player in the world ) while AI controlled are completely useless and don't do shit , and of course ur other players play like retards aswell and don't make anything useful just keep losing the ball then you seriously lose interest in this stupid mode.

I like the old one but these japs need to get a clue about making football games...

C'mon there not that bad if you are playing on easy this is gonna happen.
On top player sure there still have the odd retarded moments but the ai is miles better than the last 2 yeras bal

I will have to check on different difficultys I play on intermediate and its rife, I tried playing on advanced on the PC and I coulnt score at all.

Also why is it every club I play for they change the whole formation around so im lone striker, I start with a club, score hat tricks etc, then the clown manager decides to put me up front alone and I never get a chance due to the defence gimps... this is for 7 different clubs so its not a one off. This game is winding me up more than any other year now....

I have the exact same problem. The first month or two it's 4-4-2, but then the formation changes to 4-5-1 and the players become really poor.
Makavelian in the beginning the players from your team are playing well, but then suddenly (around the same time the manager changes the formation) they start to play really poor.

Agree, I joined some french team because they played with 2 wingers up front and obviously, I'm a winger. Then three weeks into the season I get a message that my team doesn't play my position and that I should train an other position. They now played with 2 SS instead of wingers. After getting absolutely no matches in my first months I started to train myself as a Second striker, taking 30 ff'ing weeks. 15 weeks in I get the message again and they changed the formation to 4-5-1... So now after nearly a year I played 2 matches.. Plus the dumb AI and stupid transfer really ruined it for me.

Edit: Is it me or is it better to have a winger with high body balance and speed then one with fast dribbling and speed but poor body balance. I use the latter one with 95 on dribble speed and 4 more in the 90+ but my body balance is only 60 so I get knocked of the ball if a defender only looks my way.. Top player is impossible this way.

I may have sussed it, you have to press Square for team pressure like in other modes now, if you use that the defence plays properly almost.

I am used to deal with PES2010's BAL mode IA, so I don't think my teammates on PES2011's BAL play that bad.

Midfielders play pretty well IMO, but it's true defenders look stupid sometimes. I think this happens when coach tells the team to pass the ball to a certain forward/winger. Defenders try to find a line of pass for that forward and they spin and spin losing the ball in the progress.

Even though this isn't a problem for me, since I play myself as midfielder and I construct game from behind (excuse my english) getting close to defenders and helping them to move the ball by using RT.

my central defenders where passing it to each other halfway between center of pitch and goal , one of then started to protect the ball when he was under pressure, and he was all alone, instead of kicking / clearing , which until now was aparently the only thing they do well, didnt do it...

and ..striker steals the wallet run towards the goalie and its a goal...

had a couple of these and a dozen close ones in one year.

I think the problem is with people trying to play BAL as a real-life simulation. It seems that BAL is actually nothing more than a GAME based on real life. In any game, there are objectives and rewards (level-ups, etc). In BAL, these objectives are the manager instructions, and all you have to do is follow them. Though your team will play like retards when compared to real-life players, you may find yourself with better chances to score/assist. You just have to learn to play BAL-style football and do things their way.

Personally, I wish KONAMI would stop trying to make gimmicks and just give us simulations. They tried to turn BAL into a GAME instead of a simulation and did a poor job, hence the FAIL. But it's still better this year than 09 and 10

Um not trying to cause an arguemnt but first off if you can't play top player on pes by now then u need some serious practice also holding the square button helps about 60% but you must time it properly other wise you open up your defence, also how old is your player now if he's only 19 or somtin then stop moaning noteveryones a star I'm with newcastle and were 17th but we've beaten chelsea man utd and man city yet were low in the league the key is to pick the right in pes 2010 I joined barcelona got 17 goals won the league and champions league but lost in the spanish cup so I joined re3al madrid wanting to join up with ronnie howver only scored 4 and but only won leaguethen athletico came in (my favourite spanish team) soi joined them for the prospect of aguero and forlan and low and behold 32 goals didn't win the league but won the spanish cup so for me thespanish were conquered I then joined bolton ... as you can imagine the only success they had was leaving the pitch so its not always about the game being shit you just need to fine a team you enjoy playing for yeah defence is a bit stupid sometimes but its much better than last years!

2010 I didnt bother.

I think it plays like a real game of football!!
Well I play football and playing BAL excites me like playing a game.
you have to time your runs be in the right positions. do what the manager tells you.
and take your chances (ok its never going to be exactly like a real game but I think they have done a good job)

I think its much improved from earlier versions with the manager changing tactics in the middle of the game then assessing you on each role.

I loved BAL last year and bought PES2011 for this game type alone. Unfortunately for whatever reason it just hasn't grabbed me like last years, I cant put my finger on it but it just isn't as fun. Master League online has saved the day imo.

brb playing BAL where my defenders keep shielding the ball and losing them to opposing players which then run 1on1 on my goal

brb playing BAL where Xavi losses the ball 5 times in a match and can't do shit because AI doesn't know how to use him as he plays in real life

Very enjoyable thing in my opinion, I play as a CB and just love to tackle de Jong's style!!! AI gives the ball away too often, but it's just the cpu not human, errors are inevitable.

It depends on what you mean by like real football.

I think if feels to me like playing a game of football (maybe not like watching a premier football match) just more like the real game! more than the standard master league.
the way it plays like ...marking a player keep goal side of them.
Tracking back you can put pressure on other players without the ball to force mistakes.
then moving in to space to create a pass for the player with the ball.
Timing your runs but staying on side.
running in to the box for corners to attack the cross.. all thing I do in real life football games??? dont know about you guys??

i dont really care if messi does sh**. I just play it and leap about when playing as my self (ive created) I score the winner from an amazing wayne rooney style track back win the ball, pass it off, run in to the box play a quick one two and score!! in the 85 min after being subed on at half time!!

also how much of it have you played coz I got the game friday have played bal for like 2 days solid and oly just finished my first season!

ive learnt to play SS CF and AMF
and only improved my stats from like 59 up to 61 overall
with 3 player cards

The manager changing the team formation to 4-5-1 seems to be a common problem. My team right now keeps switching between 4-4-2 and 4-5-1!
