I just watched 21 seconds of that video before turning it off as I know all I need to know, and I'm mortified. It's my worst fears confirmed: They're becoming Fifa.

Mortal Street Fighter, 2014.

Die Konami, Die.

I tried fifa 13 demo. The right analog stick would let you knock the ball 5 feet in any direction you wanted. whereas this weight shifting thing is more synonymous to dribbling in real life.you will get used to it.cheer up.

Shifting body weight is what I'd call micro management. It's too much for me. Too much button bashing a long with everything else. I guess I'm getting old as I neither have the time, inclination, or skill to do all that now. It's such a shame as the core game seems pretty good.

I had a few games now and I have to say I'm seriously impressed. This is so close to football game I've been looking for. The new physics are not only visually pleasing, but the impact they have on the gameplay now is incredible.

The dribbling is the best yet. You have far more freedom to do what you want with the ball because of the 360 degrees of angle of attack you have open to you now. You have complete control of the angle you use to beat a defender. Also, the different speed of dribbles completely come into their own now. It allows you to fine tune how far you push the ball ahead, when you want and at what angle to move into space and create opportunities. Tapping the sprint button for flat out sprint seems to be far more responsive now. Before it felt a little unresponsive sometimes.

The deft touch dribble is now near perfect to use. You can draw in a defender with it while still facing them as always, but crucially because of the 360 degree's freedom, you can now choose the right angle you feel to beat the defender with a nice little burst of speed to outwit. I started a thread looking for advice here in how to dribble in 2013 like this because I couldn't do it - this is almost exactly what I've been looking for.

Gone is the dreaded stumbling animation, too. Now, if a player is behind me he can't stumble me off the ball and I can shield it properly.

This game for the first time(since the first ISS Pro on playstation 1) actually feels like my decision making is alone defeating me or rewarding for, not the actual game restricting me with the inherent limits in its code.

The new physics engine plus the core realism of the first touch and ball control it already had previously, has risen this above overall in all combined aspects, over Fifa quite a bit for me. Then again, Fifa's pass assistance is either do it all yourself(manual), or I'll do everything for you(semi and assisted).

Nope, you can't. Because apparently weight shift is more important.

Weight Shift is when you're dribbling, im talking about when you don't have the ball. You clearly haven't played the demo, because this weight shift system is excellent. Once you have a few games and get used to it, it really adds to the experience.

It's nothing like the right stick in fifa, i suggest you give it a few goes

On another note, the main reason this game feels a lot better is that it doesn't feel like your on rails for through balls or wehn chasing the ball and when looking to try interceptions, they work a lot better, maybe due to more animations. It used to really piss me off seeing the player run over the ball when you wanted them to intercept a pass. This is probably why through balls feel nerfed. However they can still be deadly as I've experienced both ways lol

Ok here's a couple of thoughts that I think are important. I've heard both positive and negative comments about the demo and I kept wondering how opinions could be so divided. I downloaded the American demo last night and played about 10 games on it. I felt so disappointed. Everything was sluggish, the commands were not as responsive as PES 2013, the menus were slow, the passes were wrong, etc. I could not believe it, but I read a lot of comments of other people thinking the same.

Today I downloaded the European demo (which I downloaded from the Spanish PSN store) and it is VERY different. Both play at roughly the same speed, but the controls are much tighter and everything just seems smoother. In other words, it was much more playable. The American demo reminded me a lot of the first PES 2013 demo last year that had problems with the control responsiveness, and the European version was leaps and bounds better. I played another 10 really satisfactory games (I could not stop myself, which was not the case at all with the American version).

So just for the sake of it I decided to download the Japanese demo to check if there were any differences.

The Japanese demo plays much faster. Everything seems more frenetic about it. Whereas in the American and the European versions you are forced to slow down, receive the passes, control and then not come out as if your player is a missile, in the Japanese version there was no incentive to do this. On the contrary, it was as if I was actually encouraged to keep my finger on the R1 button. Controls were a little tighter than the American version, but not as much as the European version. I played 5 games, but I did not like it as much as the European one. The European version plays the best to me because I feel that I have more control over everything, that I can plan my attacks better and that I can do almost anything that crosses my mind. In the Japanese version this was not the case because everything was too fast and frenetic, and in the American version doing anything was just impossible because the controls simply did not respond.

So, I know all versions are labelled "Demo 2", but I have a feeling that within that "2" there were different versions: Version 1.0 (American), 1.5 (Japanese) and 2.0 (European) as they stand right now. Even the European is still a little sluggish in terms of control response, so I hope that they work that out for the final release.

For those who downloaded the American version trying to get a feeling of PES 2014 as soon as possible, download the European version and see if it is better. It was MUCH better for me. I hope this helps.

I have the European version myself and I haven't found it all that unresponsive yet in anyway, except only the physics of what my player was doing caused minor delays but all of that in terms of what I was doing has felt realistic so far, although I have played only 6 or 7 games.

I feel that I have more control over everything, that I can plan my attacks better and that I can do almost anything that crosses my mind.

This is what has struck me most about it. The ball control physics and ability to move in what ever direction you want now has made it so free to play. Although I'm championing the 360 degree movement, its 2013 and its only now that konami have given it to us.

redselle Hmm, interesting. I got it from the USA store so may have to give the European version a go.
I wasn't going to play the demo again and just wait for the release but I'm intrigued now.

more than for offense I want the offball control for defense to defend against long through ball cheesers on line. Without this control they will have a field day because you won't be able to position your defenders properly. Hmmmm....

First of all don't tell me what I have and haven't played.

This weight shifting lark is just a gimmick, I have seen things like this implemented in previous games, with the right analog stick actually and let me tell you that nobody has the dexterity and reaction speed to accurately pull moves with it in the middle of the game. It's just more "finger bashing" rubbish to please kids who want to see tricks and other pointless moves.

But off-the-ball movement is crucial in football and whats more it is (and was) easy to implement in a video game. Without it you get much less control of your teams shape, both in and out of possession.

If they insisted on introducing this weight shifting shit then they should have found a way to implement it without sacrificing off-the-ball movement. That way everybody is happy, the kiddies who want to button bash and people who want to play football how it's supposed to be played.

But we know Konami's motto by now - "We give yet we will take away".

I think I noticed the new crowd reactions to the play. I kept pressurising Man U with Bayern and was threatening to break through their defense several times, and the crowd started responding egging them on, like you would hear in a real match when the home team is seriously turning the screw. I wasn't actually listening out for as I forgotten about this whole new crowd emotion thing they've added in. It just caught my attention straight away when I heard it. The crowd just started going nuts, egging the team on. Sounded class, really added to the atmosphere.

The new lighting for the games played during the day in the summer are really well done. Coupled with new animations it almost looks real. In saying that, the lighting at night looks a little fake.

what a stupid comment. so shifting of weight has NOTHING to do with realism. Obviously if you played football your first touch must have been shocking!

Having that ability to shift you weight when you receive the ball and get that extra hald uard is crucial. How can you not see that? Fo

I have had about 20 games so far and not once have I ended up with less than 55% possession. This is on SuperStar difficulty by the way.I can play as Colo Colo and outplay Barcelona on the hardest difficulty setting. It's the same as last year, the opposition AI is stupid and don't try to keep possession. The fact offline has been way too easy for 2 games running now makes me think Konami are aiming this game towards children. Why not? More children play video games compared to adults so they will make more money by targeting their sales.

Another key issue is how unresponsive players are, especially when you are trying to tackle, it just feels like you are hardly in control of the outcome when you are trying to win the ball back. Imagine how unresponsive and laggy it will be online?

It's a video game. It's simply impossible to control every movement of a players body. It's a gimmick that will have no use in the middle of a match.

Also, please learn to spell, have a bit of courtesy for other people.

Just wondering what your football/soccer game of choice would be ?

Not trying to be confrontational or anything, just a normal question. I haven't played the demo yet and still play PES5/WE9LE instead of the newer versions because I feel the overall balance of offense/defense was best in that game. In other games the defensive AI & tackling wasn't nearly as good.

A game that is somewhat like a game you see in real life, realistic as possible basically. Having just played the demo again on Demo I have warmed to it a bit, it's definatley better than last years game but I am still pretty annoyed that they messed/removed the the manual off-the-ball controls. But as I played the game more I found I could still press quite well, by using square (teammate pressure) as well as using the player I was controlling.

The opposition AI do play much more realistically than in the last game, though that isn't hard to be fair. But at the same time I noticed some scripting, my CB jumped under a simple cross so Ballotelli could score a bicycle kick. Annoying.

The presentation of the game is abysmal and unimaginative as it gets but that is to be expected with Konami. Just look at the main menu.

It will be interesting to see if they have improved online or not, the crucial three factors they need to improve are:

Lag in-game as well as the speed of connecting with other users.

Options to play against people that play as lesser teams (I was sick of playing against Madrid nearly every single game last year).

Through ball spamming, this totally ruined the game. Most people are idiots so will try and exploit any fault in the game, so it has to be fixed.
