Ok guys i know i am gonna get some real stick for this but here goes.I HATE PRO EVO 6.There i have said it.Dont make me feel any better but at least i have got it off my chest. Not all the problems with it are major but when all put together it just ruins the game for me.The biggest culprit is without a doubt the ability to (or actually lack of) defending.I really dont care how many new eye catching tricks r in the game if this comes at the expense of a BASIC tool such as defending. What the hell is the point of having tactics, arrows, formations etc if when the whistle blows your players just do what the hell they want.

This is a direct quote from the review of PES 6 in PLAY magazine issue 146 which sums it up better than i ever could. "THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WE HAVE IS THE MASSIVE AMMOUNT OF SCRIPTING,WHERE THE GAME DECIDES WHAT IT WANTS TO HAPPEN,DESPITE ALL OUR EFFORTS TO THE CONTRARY.AT TIMES IT GENUINELY FEELS LIKE THE GAME IS PULLING AGAINST YOU AND NO MATTER WHAT U DO U CANT ESCAPE THE CRUSHING INEVITABILITYOF WHAT IT HAS PLANNED".

I make no secret of the fact that i hate losing but i aint a bad loser. If i am beaten cos my opponent is simply better than me then it spurs me on to get as good as him.Thats the way it should be.On this version though its almost as if your playing against your opponent as well as the computer.I should point out that i only ever play against my mates and never against the comp.Gone are the days when my mate could pick Arsenal and i could be my beloved West Ham.In those games Arsenal were obviously the better side but with a sound formation and tactics coupled with a solid defensive display i could still have a good chance of getting a result.Just like real football. This has always been the real strength of the PES series compared to that FIFA crap.PES has always had that feel of realism to it as opposed to the shallow eye candy of FIFA.Many of u will agree with me that flash graphics or fully licensed kits mean nothing if its at the expense of game play.

Maybe its my fault. My mates say i take it way too seriously and maybe they r right.Maybe i am a perfectionist. What they mistake for moaning though is actually passion. When all those fools were out spending their cash on FIFA i was playing ISS as was then.I have been with PES since the beggining and, like the rest of ya,have a real sense of loyalty to it.We were the few who did not join the EA bandwagon or sell our soul to that American dross.I just dont want PES to lose what made it so special. Is that so wrong?Dont let us down KONAMI.Everyone is entitled to make a mistake but dont make a habit of it.U have a chance to redeem yourself with PES7 on the PS3.DONT LET US DOWN.

Well I couldnt disagree more. This is the best PES (PS2) by a long way. The game is much more fluent than other versions and much less regimented and machine like. Its harder I agree, but thats only because its different. But for me, I love it

i feel the gameplay is cracking, if you cant defend thats your fault not konamis, go back to your fifa mate, pro evo rocks, room for improvement yes but still pro evo rocks

firstly your post bored me cos it failed to get to the point quick enough, secondly work on your defending dont expect to get a clean sheet every game, try altering your formation to work with your attacking style

I agree with a lot of what you said. And yeah, defending is at it's worst on this game.

PES6 is a bit of a let down (coz of the lack of major changes from PES5 really), but I enjoy the game none the less.

konami concentrated more on the next gen, i even bet theres a batch of pes6 for ps3 sitting somewhere abandoned probably

The point that I like the most is that you concede more goals per match. And I find this a positive point not a negative one. Because simply it means that the game is harder and there is an apparent improvement in the AI.
Conceding more goals or hard defending as I've said is a good sign. However, it may be attributed to more than one reason or a combination of reasons. The AI, the game is out just from nearly 3 weeks (I mean we all need more practice), you need better formation and tactics, you need better defenders, etc.

Edit: No problem PheonoM and Viva Leicestershire...;)

A good honest post, something you dont seem to see a lot of from PES Fans.
Now first i'll admit that i dont even own PES6 (still bashing away at PES5)
For the main reason being that i dont feel that a game with less content than the previous version can be more value for money.
- Fair enough, losing the German Bundeslige license was probably out of Konami's hands but why not at least try to license 2 or 3 more top German Clubs apart from Bayern ?
Or even licence another league to replace it, Portugese or a south American league maybe ?
There were a lot of very good players, as well as teams in the German league from teams like Breman, Hamburg, Dortmund, etc.

Another thing is the lack of Extra or updated stadiums apart from the Bernabeu and whatever stadium is in the pes shop ?.
- If you're going to license Arsenal & Bayern, at least update their Stadiums (The Emirates & Allianz arena) Just plain Laziness, imo ..

Theres no Stamford Bridge and for some reason they have chosen to take out the option to change shorts & socks in the kit selection section.
But decided to include Garbage such as Penguin suites & Dog masks in the pes shop... Errrm ????

So apart from the French league, an hand full of club & International teams being licensed, oh and a few new animations and skill moves added, there doesn't seem to be a lot done to PES within 12 months.
So Perhaps the game with "Evolution" in its title doesn't seem to be Evolving very much ?.

Also, judging by the amount of threads that i've read similar to this on Other Pes sites, and the general slating that (quite a lot) of people have been giving it, i honestly can't see myself rushing out to spend £30 on it, as yet.

Now finally moving on to Nick Higgins points about the gameplay being scripted, well i couldn't agree more.. Thats just going off PES5.

For a football game thats supposed to be the most Realistic, i've never seen so many things so Un-Realistic about the game.
- From the Defensive positioning, to the way that the defenders mark players.

Meaning, a lot of the time your CB play way too high up the field, even when using a SB or WB (Wing Back) system, where the CB have to play deeper, for cover. Which in result, makes it way too easy for the COM to break and catch you on a counter. Or do that over used through ball, straight through the middle of your (gone on vacation) CB's, routine ..
What i find even more amazing is how your defenders can suddenly decide to either double up on marking the player with posession, (leaving a gap where he should be positioned) or your 2 CB's decide to dart off and follow the run of the other COM Forwards (conveniently) leaving a nice big gap fo the player with the ball to run into for a clear shot at goal.

The funny part is that these events are usually cpu assisted, so there ain't a damn thing that you can do about it except try to switch to a player nearset the ball and attempt to make a last ditch covering tackle.
On the subject of L1 manual player switching, has this been sorted out in PES6, as it was a load of b*****ks in Pro5.
- It used to automatically switch to the next player, anyway.
- it used to take at least 3x L1 clicks to get to the player nearest the ball (in pressureised conditions) such as counter attacks, corners & goal mouth scrambles .. lol

As far as the scripting... Well the gameplay is way over scripted, and worse than Fifa imo.
For what i've heard, PES6 is no different.
I just feel that the level of scripting and cheating that the COM AI does, can get way over the top and is the main thing that actually ruins the gameplay.

- The player attributes go out of the window at times.
- The cpu has too much control over your own players at times.
- It seems strange how over 90% of deflected balls & passes always tend to fall perfectly in front of a COM player .
- The COM tends to score too many, lets say "Gifted goals" mainly due to over generous defending or goalkeeping.
- Even the P1 shooting is scripted. Top class players just dont miss that many sitters.
- At times it's as if they are 2 sets of rules to this game.
1 set that you (P1) have to follow, which are mostly close to the actuall rules of the game.
Then another set of rules for the COM. Where at times, anything goes.

The problem that we have here is that they are too many Fanboys.
Even if Konami put a basic game out with stick men players running around a plain green pitch, these people would still find ways to wank over it, and state that it's the Best & most Realistic game ever, rather than admitting the truth.
Obviously everyone has their own opinions but it always makes me wonder when people post negative things about the game, that the replies are always "you're crap".. or "F*** off and play Fifa then"...

As if you (or anybody else) actually owes Konami a favour by sticking up for their game.
It's that Seabass and his team that owe you the favour for being so loyal and buying his game for x number of years.
So the least they could repay people is by putting some effort and extra content into the game, instead of taking the piss, imo ..

Sorry guys but I just don't see this 'scripted' thing. If you mean there are times in PES6 when the opposition overwhelms you and scores a goal then, yes, you're right and what a great thing that is! It's not scripted at all, it just means the AI's better in this version. I love the fact that I can no longer go through a master league season, only conceding a handful of goals. At 1-0 up, the last 10 minutes of a match are now truly nailbiting (especially when playing on 15 minutes). PES5 is already a distant memory...
P.S. I'm not some rabid PES maniac, just a footy fan who wants to play as realistic a simulation as possible

"Such Blasphemy!"

PES6 is a different game to PES5. In a good way though. In PES crappy defenders had no problems keeping up, challenging and winning balls from elite strikers. How much codswallop is that?

In real life if you commit your foot forward to challenge for the ball and the striker feints you or goes the other way you end up beat and embarrassed! The same on PES6.

It's not Konami's fault you can't defend!! I keep more clean sheets now than I have ever kept on previous PES games. It's all a matter of technique. I find it hilarious that people think they can pick PES6 up after being good at PES5 and think they shouldn't have to learn how to play this game. How much fun would that be?

Defending is an art and if you think you can play Konchesky/Ferdinand against Henry and not get your ankles broken then your playing the wrong football game franchise. X button is to be used lightly! Positioning is way more important on this version of PES.

I posted this before on another thread, but dropping back and allowing the improved AI defending to do it's job, is a definite must on this game. I'll be holding Defending Classes 101 weekly online in lobby 10! :D :D

Seriously though, take the time to learn how to defend on this game and it becomes way more enjoyable than PES5.

Don't trash the game because you refuse to learn new techniques! If you think what I am saying is rubbish then FIFA 07 is your calling!

Nick, I know where you are coming from mate , I hate every new Pro Evo when it comes out because I go from someone who wins everything , scores a million goals and never concedes any to someone who just can't do anything and I hate it and because I'm a simple minded chap I naturally blame the game for it............ just give it time , when it clicks it is a very very good game ....... the style of defending that worked on PES5 simply does not work in this game and you need to adapt ........ stick with it , it will click and you'll love it....

I second, third, and fourth your sentiment mate.

As far as I am concerned pes has been annoyingly broken since PES4, but PES6 is just so shockingly bad as a 2 player competitive contest. The biggest beef that ProEv gamers the continent over have had with PES since PES4 is the ease of the lame cut-back goals.....it seemed like they tried to rectify the situation in PES5, but never quite succeeded, but PES6 is the most flawed ProEV game ever and therefore the weakest of the entire series. PES can no longer be taken serioulsy as a competitive venture.

For the first time ever, I serioulsy doubt I will be playing the latest ProEV much after Christmas time....infact, getting bored of 2 player mode already.
