10 Things I Hate About PES3

Back and to the left.
Not sure where exactly to post this thread so er, this'll have to do.
Before I start I have to say that this is still the greatest football game out there but this really needs to be said and I'm sure most people will agree with at least a few points.
1. Worst of all - when playing the game in the normal intermediate setting it is sometimes very difficult to know whether you've scored or not as the screen just stops dead at the goal and you have to wait until you can see the ball actually in the net before knowing for sure.
2. The license issues - while not as bad as pes2 with oranges 1-100 it is still a pain in the arse as a lot of the commentary doesn't have a lot of the names of the clubs and players names (see Czech Republic for prime example).
3. Pitch radar - A team playing in a black strip will show up on the radar as grey circles which is very difficult to make out in the heat of a game, white, blue, red and all the other colours are fine but the black...
4. Creating players - impossible for created players to be put into club teams, why is this? just seems very lazy from Konami to let them go into international teams but not the clubs.
5. Commentary - Much improved from the last game but I was and still am dismayed that Pete & Trev got the job again this time round. Peter Brackley? who? did he do the Italian football on C4? I dunno that's the point. Also every single time I hear their voices I cannot help thinking of the woeful pes2 effort, it's like a bad smell that just won't go away. As I say much improved this time round but I could have done with some new voices, all I can say is "he's headed that backwards".
6. "Thats Hands" - yes I'm sure everyone has experienced this little beauty 5 or 6 times during a game, it was ok for the first few times but it is really starting to annoy me now. Nuff said methinks.
7. The advantage rule - While a good idea in principle it really falls flat on it's arse when your player gets cut in half and the ball goes straight to the opposition. What bloody advantage it that? To them yes, to me not so.
8. PES Shop - Again good in principle but why not give us some other decent options instead of shite like ball effects and double speed. I think Konami just ran out of ideas or time with this one.
9. Throw Ins - What the hell is all that about? You can either throw it short with the defender standing on top of you or throw it long and hope you win the second ball or go for the 'through ball' throw which is as predictable as it gets. Why not just simply stop the defender from coming within X amount of destance from the receiver?
10. C'mon you didn't really think I could come up with 10 reasons did you? I love this game more than I love life itself for 1 reason. Playability. I have never played a football game as enjoyable as pes3 and indeed the whole ISS series and despite it's glaring faults it remains the football game of choice for anyone with half a brain.

By the way if anyone can name the mysterious 10th reason why I hate PES3 then please let me know. Rant over.

10) Goalkeepers won't always throw the ball, even if the defender is 5 yards away and unmarked.

Was that the last one?

2. The license issues - while not as bad as pes2 with oranges 1-100 it is still a pain in the arse as a lot of the commentary doesn't have a lot of the names of the clubs and players names (see Czech Republic for prime example).

This one is a total joke now. You could understand it when FIFA dominated the market and ISS/PES was an unknown game, but now that it is just as well known as FIFA they should have full licenses. Every other footy game manages it, even though it will probably sell at least half as many copies as PES (This is Football, Club Football etc).

I've bought every ISS/PES since ISS on the PS1, initally I kinda enjoyed the editing part of the game but now it is just tedious and stops the game from ever being able to claim the title of being the best game....even though it's gameplay is miles ahead of all it's rivals.

(PC Version)

1. Licenses/Teams/Leagues
2. No real 360° control with the joystick
3. Export Feature, for stats and such.
4. More even representation of cards in the game given to the CPU and Player
5. Real Crowd chants would be nice
6. Licenses/Teams/Leagues
7. Licenses/Teams/Leagues
8. Licenses/Teams/Leagues
9. Licenses/Teams/Leagues
10. Licenses/Teams/Leagues

I'm sure there is more, if there wasn't why would they make another one :D

oh yeah that reminds me of a possible 10th: no forcefeed on the joypads for tackles etc. always nice when you can feel a good crunching tackle but alas not on pes. boo hoo.

I like that idea, although would need an on/off option - might get annoying. Would be cool for it to vibrate when the ball hits the back of the net too

I agree with all but would add some.

The computer always runs the most insane offsides trap the minute they clear the ball their entire defense immedietly runs 30 yeards forward in complete tandem.

why can't the keeper play with the ball? why does every touch have to be a clearance, slide tackle or save/catch? and why can't he drop the ball to his feet and play it that way after a catch?

I agree about the throw ins. In WE8 or PES4 I want to see a "non stop" game where if the ball goes out, the taker goes to get the ball and can throw it when he wants. Great counter attacks could be acheived from this instead of the players resetting to default positions like they do now.

tip: before the ball goes to the keeper press :L1: to get control of him.........this always works for me so i can do what barthez does twang up the oppositions striker!!!!! and lose the ball ofcourse :D

Loading times are annoying, when you first turn the game on, and why does the screen saying "currently changing commentary language" come up when it should be English by default?

I hate the way that PES3's graphics can replicate stadiums and players brilliantly - but can't draw a straight yellow line for the offside decisions! It's like it's been drawn by a toddler on Paint.exe!

PES Shop was OK. I think they used it well, disguising their plain lazyness/ignorance. "we can't be arsed to update teams etc, so I know let's make the user work goddamn hard to unlock a feature to do something which should have been done by us in the first place. We'll put it under the pretence of longetivity." Yes I'm talking about the transfer mode. 10000 points and all they can muster is some wank system of swaping players around which takes far too much time, and still doesn't allow you to register created players to clubs.

*pauses so to let blood temperature drop below boiling point*

There got that outta my system. Give us fully licensed teams you bastards. Oops there I go again...

na I think the game is pretty balaneced, I'vbe het to get into the 4* and 5* and i think it's pretty competitive.

But I agree with the other things the PC version needs, along with equal ref penalty calling, As it is now, the computer hardly gets a yellow or a red card for knocking your guy down, many of those calls are missed.

i think they should add 6 stars cause 5 stars is quite easy if you have been playing pes/iss games for almost 6 years!!!!!!!

and where the hell iz extreme for the masterleague why did konami not include it in pes3???
hopefully it will be in WE7I

I'm also mighty annoyed by #3. I swear to god, the easiest way to win against me is picking a team-color that is hard too see on the radar, it renders me defenseless. I spend at least an equal amount of time looking at the mini-radar to know where my players are at as I look at the actual field. for most of my goals, I don't look at the actual field until I'm in the penalty area, or near it. I just have to have total controll over where the opposition is, otherwise I'm helpless. I don't know how many times I've pressed R1 when I thought I was clear on the side or alone with the golie, just to run right into a defender who just robs the boll off me. this only happens with radar-colors that is really hard too see, ofcourse. if I have too look a second or two to see if I'm clear or not, the oppurtunity is almost always certainly over. I don't see why they couldn't just use black and white dots to distinguish the teams...

#6 is also true, it usually happens to me when I'm free with the goalie and tries a chip but it hits the goalie. then it bounces back on my attacker, and it's hands almost every time. I think it's just happened to me once that the ref didn't blow the whistle when the ball bounced back on me, and then I was so surprised I almost missed the open goal.

#7, the advantage rule. I read a review of pes3 where the reviewer had written that the advantage rule was great, and that the ref didn't whistle at the correct times and such. that is just plain wrong. it doesn't happen to me often, but when I play against the cpu sometimes I make total bonecrusher tackles and then just walk away with possession with the oppnent still on the ground. that feature is not fully developed, to say the least.

and the thing with just 8 directions, that is just bad. I don't know if they did it so it would be easier for pc-gamers without good joypads to play the game or something, but it is just really bad. I use the analog stick to play the game anyway (old habit since the ea sports-series) and sometimes the passes don't go exactly where intended, to say the least.

and I'm a bit annoyed that if you have two of your players standing in a straight line, or near it, you can only pass to the nearest guy. ok, it's the manual pass option, but that is not very useful, I think. it would be nice if they had solved it somehow, like they solved the cross-to-near-post-issue by letting the player press circle twice. maybe you could like hold L2 when you pressed the pass button to pass the furthest player.

and I miss the skill when you like use your right foot and like roll the ball up your other leg a bit and then with a flick with the leg sends it flying up above your head with your left heel. hard to explain, but it's cool. you could do it in fifa (some of the old versions anyway, haven't played fifa since the world cup '98 edition). I have scored my coolest goal ever by using that skill (free with goalie + one defender, the defender tries a slide tackle and the goalie throws himself at my feet to take the ball, I heel-flick it up over all three of us, run past the both of them, turn around and bicycle kick it straight into the goal. world cup '98 it was :)

About that throw in issue, I hope they can allow the thrower to move as far as he wishes on the touchline.

However if it is too unreasonable, the ref will call for a re-throw by the other team.
