A question about connection

Hi guys, so yesterday I played this guy, don't really know where he's from but we had a yellow connection, and when we played I didnt feel any lag at all myself. By half time i was beating him 4:0. Then during half time all he says that the only reason why I'm beating him is because of the connection. So in the second half I went easy on him and see if he was really lagging, certainly didn't play like he was lagging though when he scored on me.
My question is, if the connection of the game is bad, then both players will feel the same amount of lag, correct?

NO. Its not the same lag for both. Some have more lag than others, especially the button lag. Last night was so bad that I finally gave up and turned the game off.

I really don't know, but it does. I was playing someone from our community the other day and I had no lag at all but they said they had a lot of it. Konami is just messed up! I just dont understand why they can't get this right! Every other online game works fine without all these crazy issues.

I dont know...but i can tell you is:

1-I never know if i am playing against a lag free player or my contender is attacked by the lag issue.
2-Certainly in the Americas-XBOXLIVE environment people for Brazil, Mexico and some "america central" countries has the bad lag issues...maybe because their servers are overall bad...in Brazil..are so many regions were internet is stel measured in Kilobits even for the Download speed...dont even think in upload speed.
3- I believe, after talking with some friends (Computer and Electric engineers respectively) that the lag is more related or correlated, if you prefer the statistic aproach, to the PING and the UPLOAD SPEED... this is, if your opponent has a big PING probably he is experiencing lag issues with your play, even if you have a good UPLOAD SPEED... In the other hand, if your opponent has a bad-average UPLOAD SPEED... (i think something like 128 to 256 KB) probably you experience the lag issues in your play.
In the botton line, if both player have a PING in the range of 1 to 120 ms and an UPLOAD SPEED in the range of 256 or more you could have tolerable and playable lag, maybe LAG FREE games for both players.
4- The speed and lag are both variables...it is not a constant, it varies during a match...maybe you can play some time without lag, or your opponent...but it is very variable...
5- The BIG PROBLEM is that other sports games (no even think in massive shooters games) has no LAG ,or at least playable LAG , with bad connections in the order of 1MB Down and 128 Up... so the problem is related to the PES CODE or the KONAMI servers...i dont know fucking why.

Finally, as a recomendation... turn of any machines that uses your broadband..like personal computers, cellphones or others electrical machines that could interfer your conection... that works for me...no to have LAG FREE games...but at least to have playable games...

Peace.

thanks for the info, according to this the other guy must be bs-ing me since my download is at 21mb and around 500 kb upload

so...the red yellow green lights aren't really that useful i guess

Online is a waste of time, Konami are appalling. I now just play the master league, the AI could be better but at least you avoid all the frustration. Online gaming should be fun/exciting - 2 things you cant put at this games door, after playing this crap online you end up getting wound up - I hardly bother now, quick look every couple of weeks to see if it has improved which of course it hasnt. 99% of the time the players just dont seem to do what you want (mainly due to button lag).

If konami cant sort the online problem...maybe they could block some online users without required broadband speed....

Not sure that would work, they lose half their sales overnight. the problem is that every other game I play works why doesnt this ? if I had problems with all the other online games I play I would accept it but they are practically flawless so that would suggest a problem at Konamis end would it not?

PS some guy was in the lobbys last night claiming to have a 50mb download + other stuff he was rattling on about and yet still he got lag which does back up the theory that it depends on what your opponent has as well.

yea..with my internet, i shouldn't be lagging at all, but every now and then when i play people from like bolivia or peru or something it just lags like crazy
to my surprise though is the amount of american folks that i played who lags even more than the south american players...

I played this guy from Brazil last night... He picked Brazil I picked Italy... His guys were soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fast, unreal and naturally he beat me 5-2. My 2 goals were nothing short of miracles because I had no way to get anywhere due to my button lag and the speed of his players. Then we played again and I picked Argentina... I had Messi (orange) but still his defenders like Lucio would catch up and simply take the ball away from me even with Messi. I was suprised at their speed.... Is this a new glitch that I ran into?? Lucio should not be able to outrun Messi, especially not in PES10 and expecially not when Messi is in good form (orange) ... Thoughts?

is there a reason why one lags more than the other?

Ofcourse there is, and I'll try to explain without getting too much into details.

When playing online peer to peer (P2P) the packets of dataof the two users are sent directly to each other instead of sending them to a server that controls it.

Now I think Konami worte thier process this way -
1. Reading the user's input.
2. Sending to the other side.
3. Confirming data sent and reading the other side's data.
4. Drawing

I think that there are to kinds of packets sent:
a.data packets.
b.confirmation packets - which confirms packets of data that the other side recievied.

If you look at the send - confirm process alone you understand that it depends on the time it took a data packet to make the trip to the the other side + the time it took a confirmation packet to come back (usually not in the same route), we call it a "Round-trip" of a packet.
So if one side's round-trip time is greater then the maximal required to insure a smooth gaming - it will defenetly have with we like to call "lag".

Understanding that you realize that the round-trip times can be diffrent in each side and thats what causing one side to have a lag and the other a smooth play.

Had an interesting one today: I was playing Legends with 3 others, all of whom were in Central and South America with "bad" connections, while I had the best connection status. After playing maybe three or four matches with them, we started another, only for it to freeze a minute after kickoff. It acted like it was going to "connection was lost" on us, but instead, after another minute of frozen screen with the little "activity" ring spinning, I found myself booted out to the match lobby! Even weirder, the match we were playing continued, but with the three guys with lousy connections. :^|

I hate when this happens... I play good games, win a lot, then I get connected to a guy from spain or greece or italy, and the button response time is 1 second! It's impossible to play with it, and i get so mad I want to break my controller... :p

Are the guys from these countries playing on a dial-up connection??? Or using utorrent at the same time?!? :p

It feels a lot like I'm being cheated... :p

So my solution has been to go to quick match settings, and choose language: English, so now it happens more rarely, since the people with bad connections often come from Spain, Greece, Portugal and France... :p

I'm from Norway and have a 20Mbit/1Mbit line, and I NEVER play online while one of the computers at home uses utorrent or other bittorrent clients, because it slows online play drasticcally...

Rant over... :p

i have alot of complaining about this, i even think that some users mess with they internet speed to cheat, creating lag into your game...

example: i was knocking out some guy from spain other day, 2-0 halftime, he was so pissed of, that in second half he said, "still not over" and then

i start getting 2 second lag after reaction, and he was playing perfectly, i made a pause in game, checked out my internet speed, and it was 100% ok, i losed
the game 2-4 after because the smart ass even starte to play in 2x3x5 (5 strickers)

because he knew i would never could possible to react,

and this is it!

cheaters had no pride, cheaters had no honor

i just play pes for fun, but is very sad when someone using non fairplay tricks just to feed their EGO

i am playing pes2010 about 2 months, i only played PES 2005 online, and in that time it was half time internet conection hosted from each user...

now i think some guys are realy anoying connections because they cant lose!
