My local gamestation store had a competition on release day of PES08, beat the staff and win £10 off a pre-owned game. Not much but something never the less. Anyway the thing was me and a few m8's were in the shop to buy PES and he was describing it to a kid in store. His exact words and I quote " Pro Evo 08 is a damn good game on PS3, its just like FIFA but without the licences and with less teamss." I sweat at that point me and 10 others were ready for walking out the shop there and then. That was till my pal got on the game first with the staff and we saw it in action.

Yeah It slowed down like crazy (it was a PS3 +HD tv setup), and the action seemed a bit poor, but my pal uttered a statement that made everyone in the shop change there minds on buying the Fifa over PES. SO you understand it, I let you know what the shop did. They changed the controls on the PS3 version to FIFA buttons! My pal while playing said "Ok so its slow as a mofo, but the passing is spot on except for the fact that some muppet has gimped the controls to fifa buttons. If I was here to play FIFA I would have to have my brains removed and legs chopped off to stop me from leaving."

Pretty much said it spot on, the rest of us playing after him changed the buttons back for our games and wipped the staff in every game. He was a FIFA player trying the same shit on PES, which is retarded to say the least. They ended up stopping the competition with 8 people still to play saying "Oh sorry our store is closing early today" because they were loosing £10 a go hand over fist. The shop got almost all the PES 08 sold out before they closed, which is pretty damn good going if you ask me ( only the PS3 version was left in stock). Meanwhile the shelves were overflowing with FIFA boxes waiting for sale lol.

That for me is a prime example of why PES will always win over FIFA, its the gameplay of PES regardless of the teams or problems.

Umm, If the PES gameplay is worse then Fifas why are some people saying its the better game? In the past PES was greater, but thats then. Also I think people are more in love with the editing of PES rather then the game. Fifa's editing is poor because it's all licensed. Dur

Alot of PES fan boys in here.

Thats the point though, the FIFA gameplay is still the same as it ever was, shabby and boring. As I said, even WITH the flaws of PES on full display in store , people still bought the game instead of FIFA. Not through fanboyism (though it may have played a part) but rather from playing/seeing it and realising its still got that PES magic. Its like anything else in life, once you sample the best the rest just dont cut the mustard. Sure it could & should have been much better, but its still a good game and better than FIFA by a large margin ( and I used to be a FIFA stalwart back on PS1).

I bought FIFA08 because it came out before PES and I really wanted a new football game (Obviously I was always going to buy PES as well!!) and I literally put it away after three plays. The play has been tried to be made too realistic for its own good; hence the actual enjoyment is turd. The feature where you control one player is sooo frustrating!!! Anyway, that won't be played again. Overall, if you think the new Pro Evo is bad, FIFA is like aids in a Manchester United shirt.

I have both games.

PES is still the better game, gameplay wise but FIFA has significantly improved here that the gulf is no longer apparent as it was in the past. The gameplay is no longer flawed or scripted as it has been. My biggest gripe with FIFA though are the responsiveness of the controls. There terrible. Thats one thing Konami got right with PES2008 at least.

PES also has the more edge of your seat goal mouth action, where you work for your goals and where goals are really really satisfying that it gets you screaming and pumping your fist in the air at the very least. FIFAs goals and gameplay still lacks this buzz and thrill.

FIFA though is a better presented game and probably a better game overall this year. Credits to EA at least for really trying to improve their game and taking it to the next gen level unlike our mate Seabass.

Anyways PES2008 will still be the football game ill be playing this year.

FIFA 08

you can edit player names, stats, boots they wear, untucked or tucked, tape, gloves, sleeves

so its ALOT better then PES08 editing(next gen) when it comes to editing a player

You can edit names, stats , boots , tape, on pes 08 . Not sure about the rest tbh as I havent fully checked the edit options but im sure they are in there.

So that just means FIFA is starting to catch up with PES.

I also have both games and I think it comes down to personal preferance. I used to think Fifa was total crap but it is getting better, where as Pro evo is getting worse :(

I totally agree mate, i have both, i always do, after a couple of weeks fun on fifa i always settle down for the winter with pro evo....not so sure this year, pes 2008 is a major dissapointment, EA are working their virtual bollocks off and its showing, Seahorse had better lay off the sakke over the coming months and deliver a humdinger of a game next autumn!!
