Anyone still use the drag back, or V-Feint moves in 09?

i never really new how to do it but y they changed the trick stick is beyond me sometimes i forget and move the R3 button and it does a manual pass and then they just do skills without me instructing them to bring it back with more skills aswell

The prefect trick stick would be one with loads of different skills, but intuative in that the directions you push the stick in resemble the actual ball/body movement that makes up the trick. I know they already do to some degree, but it could definitely be improved.

That's a good question, and No I don't use the drag back anymore.. since the dribbling controls became so uncomfortable. I just don't like how the dribbling tricks work in the Left Stick.

Maybe by Holding or Tapping the R2 button + moving the Left Stick??

Agreed.. I've always wanted a Control for "Shielding" the ball, something intuitive.

Like by Holding or Tapping the L1 button + Directional Stick; the player shields the ball in that direction. Like if you press to the right, the player moves his body to the right, protecting the ball from the opponent on the right -whilst- at the same time exposing himself to whomever may be on the Left.

Which is like you said; "intuitive in that the directions you push the stick in resemble the actual ball/body movement".

It would open up "dribbling play" or "on-the-ball play". Because by exposing yourself to the opponent on your left, you could then continue your move by dribbling past the opponent on your left. Which is something that you can't really do in any PES version to date.

The problem with advances in the "dribbling" department is that, as a consequence the Defending would need to improve. More defensive animations, more defensive tactics, more defensive controls, more Defensive Stats, etc, etc..

And it isn't a problem really, because it's all beneficial. But knowing how lazy Konami are proving to be, they will only improve in one aspect, either offensive or defensive. "One step forwards, Two steps back" seems to be Konami's motto.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

And besides that, I think that the "Dribbling Stats" are highly outdated. Basically, in PES09 Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi are BOTH equally good at "Cutting the Ball".. Which is very Unrealistic.

I mean, the Old "Dribbling Accuracy" and "Dribbling Speed" Stats.. Shouldn't that be divided into more Specific Stats such as "Step Overs", "360 Roulette", "Cutting The Ball", "Shielding The Ball", "Flicking The Ball" ??

Yeah because sometimes, when you use X to cancel, it brings the player inside straight into a tackle, I always use it for when the player brings the ball on the outside (using X).

So when you know if you use X, the player will bring the ball inside, I use R1 + R2 which cancels the action but just brings the ball in front of the player.

I used the roulete and the drageback... I would make my friends look foolish...

now, all I got are the stepovers... what I miss the stick for really was the chip up...

that used to piss several people off... chipping the keeper and then shooting it in, or chipping the defender then dribbling the keeper

Hell yes dude! PES 6 was the game where i would totally mess people up with the pull backs, step overs, roulettes. It was so much fun. I wish they didnt mess with all of that, i esapecially hate how they made only select players able to do the roulette.

This was back in the PS2 version of PES6, I really fail to understand why they decided to change it so badly.

I remember when I first started to use the tricks, the tricks seemed to be for "show" only.. But after mastering it I got to see that every trick had an actual use.

- Cutting the Ball by tapping the "Shooting" button and then tapping (x). Classic.

- Chipping the Ball over defenders, when the time was right, it wasn't cool to "over-use" the tricks.

- The "Drag Backs" that used to piss people off. The best move was Dragging the ball back, and then following it up with a "chip" over your opponent.

- 360ª Roulette that was so intuitive and fluid, actually useful in some situations.

- And the "Step Overs" which are kind of useless in my opinion.

Anyways, I cannot do any of this in PES09. Plus the tricks also feel so rigid now, it just doesn't feels "intuitive" anymore.

^^Step overs are completely useful, you just have to not hold sprint when going at a defender, do the step over, and then when they stab for it you pick a side and go! Your past him!

You can actually choose the direction the player takes the ball with fake shot (using X) simply by pressing that direction and if you press forward the player will not turn at all, though his foot will still pull back slightly as if he was going to shoot. basically if this is kept in mind when used properly the only way you will turn in to a tackle is if you make him.
