Attacking midfielder sitting with centre backs

Is there anyway to stop my star attacking midfielder standing with my centrebacks after every dead ball? It's ridiculous. He's my star player and is positioned just behind the strikers in the gameplan. After every dead ball he's sitting with my centrebacks.

The game is so limited in terms of instructions to players. Anyway to stop this?

You can assign him as one of the players to join the attack in the set piece instructions.

I've tried that, but it only lets me select one of my defenders. I cannot select any other players.

I find it stupid you can't issue off the ball instructions to players.

That is true that you can only assign one of the 4 center backs or the goal keeper to join the attack.
But if you want to push your midfielder up in the attack just select him manually using the right analog stick and push him inside the opponents box.

If you assign both central defenders to go offensive, you force some other players to stay behind, logic right?

The game will pick them for you, unfortunately, most likely based on their (lack of) dead-ball prowess. (Jumping+Heading+Balance)
