BAL mode starting to frustrate me!

Before i start i just want to say i love the mode and really addicted keeping me from playing my other games just recently been getting to me and feel i need to vent my frustration into words.

I play on top player before anyone says i should move to this mode and i am getting really fed up of the AI in this. i have been at Arsenal for a good 4-5 seasons now and got used to certain players in the team that was really useful (Eboue) always trying to run through players to take them on etc. anyway i got an offer from real madrid and decided the time was right for a change. when i have played them in the champions cup Robinho was a god, takes on all my players, dribbling great but now i have signed for them he is absolutley useless none of my team mates seem to know how to get past one man. this happened at Arsenal when Rooney signed he just became rubbish. Why is it as soon as you sign for a team they become a different team? i have had my keeper run straight at the opposing team just for him to nick it and score in an open net, yeah some times these things do happen in football fair enough but never seems to happen to the computer team.

i was 1-1 with a team a few games back can't remember who it was, i got the ball and struck it from about 30 yards and the ball was flying into the net just before it got over the line the ref decided because a player fouled me just at the time, he gave the free kick instead.. so i was robbed of a win... In this mode you never ever get to play advantage unless the ball drops to you as soon as the foul is commited.

Alot of the time i do find the funny side of it and laugh it off and it makes me more determined to win. anyway now i have calmed down abit i feel a little better.
There is a few more things i find but thats enough for now.

Rant over

EDIT: Didn't realise there was other threads on these sort of subjects.

haha this reminds me of my friend! at work he went on and on to us about how he hated BAL MODE and he said somtimes it feels like your not even controlling your team! oh how he laughed when we explained you can only control one player.. yourself! that was a funny day at work!

haha!!! prat!!! the cursor marker wasn't a massive give away :)

i know what you mean about getting wound up with BAL mate, it's a nightmare. i went to barca and they turned complete sh1t but after three seasons we won la liga and the div 1 cup... i don't know why the team AI get's worse if you play for the team though, that is bollox. and when you get subbed, suddenly the team are knocking it around like fuckin' brazil!!! i find the best way to play BAL is to make things happen yourself otherwise the computer players will fcuk up your season!!!

That's why I always call for the ball and never pass. I think I was at Newcastle, 1 on 1 with the keeper, Owen running up so I guess I'll pass it... He gets the ball, empty net by the way, and runs wide until all there defenders come back. He loses the ball and they clear it.

Would it really be as addictive if you could just join a powerhouse team and then not have to carry the team yourself - i.e. let robinho, et al carry the team?

I'm not saying this mode is perfect, but surely what your are talking about was done on purpose, not by accident. I think the reasoning behind it has to do with the "stengthen" system, which will hopefully be torn down and redesigned for 2010 (most people will agree it was much better in J-League/Fantasista). Anyway, in the current system you will notice that the player isn't rewarded much in terms of statistical increases from "match exp", instead, the real way to advance your player's skills, it seems, is from playing more matches. That means that if you win the "champions league," go deep in cups, internationals, etc, that you should, theoretically, end up with a better player, or at least one who is better developed at a younger age than someone who only ever plays the league games. You can imagine, then, why Konami thought they should make it so that you can't just get yourself on a top level team and let them make you a better player... You have to earn it, and unfortunately that makes things a bit unrealistic, as many have noted, but I tend to agree more or less with the choice they made. What would be nice would be a "league difficulty" option for BAL, similar to the ML difficulty option for ML, which would allow you to adjust the degree to which your team mates perform well when you are on the team. Using the higher difficulty levels of this should give you more match exp though.

Good post. i agree with what you say, even though there are a few aspects of BAL, and Pro 2009 in general which are still frustrating.

The thing is i have won nearly everything there is to win and it's not that i am finding the game difficult i scored 70 goals last season in all comps it's just i get abit fed up of ther team not doing more to help for example i would be getting a few more assists if my bloody team mates could shoot. i can't believe some of the shooting from my team. arrgghh! overall i wish we could play better football.

play on top player the AI is more responsive and i got 10 assists overall in one season and im a SS lol

I do play on top player, I have won a few things with assists on the thing i find annoying is the amount of shots my team mates miss is unbelievable. Anyway i just tried a 20 minute game and got 3 goals and 3 assists and won 6-1, i find that is ridiculous though, i don't find it hard to score on 10 mins just thought i would try it longer and the games are even easier.

Anyway my main point is i would like to play better football at times but find no matter what team i am with they just become stupid, instead or trying to fool the defenders and take them on they just run into them. I love this mode i just wish the AI was better at times.

I agree with your rant on the AI. They seem to always want to pass it back instead of push forward and god forbid they ever make a long pass.

Well for me i am always asking for the ball whether im in a better or worse position. Ill always have a shot on goal rather than to pass the ball to my teamate who is in a better position and also a better chance in screwing the shot up.

thats where your prob going wrong i have built a good partnership with my striking partner BURGESS im playing as blackpool if i know i not gonna score i will always pass to him even if he misses, and now i feel i reaping the benefits because of my teamwork lol burgess always passes to me first so maybe you just need to be a team player and your teamates will pass to you instead of doing a 'my names gerrard i must do everything alone even beat up dj's lol sorry about the last bit but you get my point

i dont know how long you've been at whatever club, but i've been at barca for 6 seasons now and they do manage to put some lovely stuff together. they still do all the cr@p that winds you up but i have found it's generally improved the longer i've been at a club. i was at cagliari for 5 seasons prior and after 3 or 4 even they we're starting to play better. due to my presence? who knows :) by the way mate, 70 goals in 1 season!!! if i had a hat on i'd take it off.

Yeah true With Arsenal i did get a good understanding was there for 5 seasons and won the lot with them. certain players (Bendtner) he used to wind me up chronic, he only ever scored when the keeper saved my shot and he got the rebound. With Real Madrid i find they don't play that well to be honest and rely on me far too much for my liking. Even though i had my most productive season in front of goal for Real i wanted to leave them but no one came in who i wanted to sign for so there for another season and seems bit better so far.
