BAL - What results in Match EXP?

I know this is covered in some places elsewhere, but I think this question deserves it's own thread. I haven't heard anything conclusive on this yet, unless I've missed some key info somewhere. Personally, I have seen some strange trends when it comes to match exp.

In one game I got a lot of match experience points but got a bad rating and scored no goals. Other times I have gotten a great rating, scored, and got none...???

I confirmed this last night. Got a 6.0 rating and scored no goals, but got exp increases in various stats. My statistics for the game (passes, touches, shots, steals, etc) weren't very good either, if not downright poor. Then, I played a good game, scored a goal to win the game, and had a rating of 7.0 --- not a single bit of match exp!!!

i know what you mean, it's far too random isn't it.... to the point where it annoys me...

the whole strengthening process is ridiculous... you can't gauge it against what you've done on the field, so as to know what things to do next time you play. does that make sense? you never know if what your doing is right or if it is going to increase your rating / stats at the end. apart from goals and assists obviously.

par example' - i had a nil nil the other night but i had 5 shots and 5 on target. got a rating of 8.0!!! then in the next game, scored 2 and made 1 only to be given a 7.0...

and while i'm at it, how are you supposed to score a fucking hat-trick if the manager takes you off every time it ticks over to 65 minutes played!!!

i was thinking how good it would be if you could 'Apply' to be the teams free kick taker...you would have to score well in, PES5 like, challenge free kick training (remember the little targets)....the same could be for corners...make it more interesting

yeah i've always thought they should have the training challenge in BAL mode... you could even have to go for trials when your really young instead of just being snapped up after one game of park football...

p.s mate, zola was born in 66...

match experience points are not in relation to how well you played, you get match experiance points for playing in important games, e.g: cup finals, international matches, top of the table clashes etc

Spot on.

It seems to be International matches and finals get the most experience points.
Then CL and Cup matches, as well as derbies.

The easy way to tell is when there's an opening sequence for the match - you know, showing the stadium and teams beforehand rather than jumping in straight to kick off.

I think that's right anyway.

Interesting. This wouldn't be all internationals though, right? I played one last night, got an assist, was man of the match, 7.0 rating on top player, but no match exp. Maybe only big games - I'll check to see if that's the way it works.

What's lame though is that if you skip matches the game says "are you sure you want to do that? If you do, you won't get any match exp?" Everytime I see that I laugh. I never get any anyway, and when I do, it amounts to, what, a fraction of a percent of 1 stat increase? It makes me wonder how much my play is actually contributing to the development of the player... If at all.

I guess the main reason I'm unhappy about this is that it was so much more rewarding in Fantasista. You would get match exp in a lot more games, and when you did, it was very clear why (if you took five shots, your shooting would go up, almost guaranteed). The ratings and the player development graph were much better in Fantasista as well. Don't get me wrong, I like 09, but I just think the PS2version for these aspects of the game was more well thought out.

I'm almost thinking in 09 that it's a cumulative thing, i.e. it builds up over time, then you get your match exp when a limit has been reached for some # of completed passes, minutes played, shots, etc...

It has to do with big matches for sure!
But I also think it has to do with practising certain skills in a game for example if you take 20 shots (off/on target) I think you get match experience in shooting...I am not 100percent sure of this though

You also get match experience if you do some really crazy unexpected shit in a big game. If you score a header out of nowhere, you'll get header and jump match exp. If you score a crazy goal, making something out of nothing, you'll also get match exp. for your shooting stats.

^ Wow. This also suggests it might be a cumulative thing. Of course, you might get some for specific things as well, but it might just be that they are added to your "hidden totals" and pushed over the line eventually. This would be sort of as if there was a tally hidden within the tally, which all adds up to make just one percent... I'm not sure how you would confirm or deny this though.

It does not happen if you "skip match" but I rarely do that even when I am not in the squad for any reason.

Actually it's a mis-translation - the real number is 616.

Although I don't know why I am trying to correct someone on the numbers in the Bible, surely that's like arguing how many apples are eaten in the Very Hungry Caterpillar.

It's quoted from Iron Maiden, mention it for Steve Harris the next time you run into him.
I'm sure he cares :p

And it's just a theory that has not been proven, although it has more "supporters" than the 6 x 6 x 6 = 216 theory.

scholars argue about Emperor Nero being the 666 (hebrew) alternatively Caligula being 616 (Latin) etc etc.

now we are completely off the track :)

I'm afraid I would have rather bigger complaints if I bumped into someone from Iron Maiden.

And it was in my QI book, it can't be wrong! They even got the facts right about Quakers, which I found irritating.

Suppose we are going off-topic...
