beating the goalie 1 on 1?

i've been playing WE/PES for years(since WE 7), but i've had less than 50% success at scoring 1 on 1 vs the GK when i've broken through with a through pass etc.
I've played as Liverpool, but moved to Man U. this time cause I wanted to use Rooney.
i've just moved up to 5 stars from 4 stars in my 3rd yr of ML.

if i just shoot, most of the time the gk blocks the shot.
i've found, there's always a defender or two close behind, so shot fakes usually takes too much time, i usually ends up getting the ball stolen.

best way 4 me is, sprint to one side of the net, quick turn around, and i pass if i can, cause i usually have at least 3 DF'ers around me+goalie looking at me, and i have 1 guy open.
also, going normal speed, and sprinting just at the last moment catches the gk off guard.
also shooting a lil late, not immediately seemed a lil better.

any tips?

BTW, how do u guys usually score when its slowed down (not a fast break) at their goal?

i usually pass it around at the edge of the box, and i run up, and suddenly down, and shoot, facing sorta diagnally to the net. also if i keep passing and dribbling in the box long enough, sometimes i get a PK.
i only somtimes cross it in outside the box, as my team is a fast but small.

Yes it chips. But ive found if you keep using it in ML the AI gets used to it and the keeper starts staying on his feet.

I normally slow down just before shooting hold R2, and take a step to either side of the keeper. He then places the shot.

One on ones, i find just turning at a slight angle and aiming for the far corner works most of the time, nothing to complicated. There are loads of things you can do though to beat the goalie. Shot fakes i find are most successful, but like you say, if the defenders are right behind you, they will occassionly steal it. Unless there is one either side of you, you can control the direction of where the shot fake takes you by pressing in that direction as you play the fake. So if the player is on your right shoulder, fake off to the left. You pull away from him, plus leave the goalie flapping at your feet.

Using R2 to place the ball round is also a pretty stable way of getting the one on one's in, but they also would pretty well from just outside the area shots. so like you were saying about when you're outside the box and they've got their defencer back. i do the same as you (playing the ball around the edge of the box), but in my formation i usually have a couple of players who are told to stay outside the box and not to push up. So as soon as i've made a little space, i play the ball into them as they come running upto the Semicircle-ish area of the box, let them have one touch to a slight angle, then bend the ball into the side of the net with R2. You can also obviously let that player have a first time shot, where timing of the shot button comes into context. Release shoot just as the player reaches the ball, and they will make good contact. Too soon or too late and they will often fluff it. The better your players shooting stats are, the longer the scope is to miss time the hit and still make a good enough shot.

What does that do Poffeman? Chip?

No no no no no no.
It adds more curve to it, it gets behind the keeper 90% out of the time.
And no it doesn't chip. Just have as little power to it as possible.

Thank you for reading.
i do a fake shot (shoot then x), keeper dives, you take it round him, easy.

Turn the keeper with the ball at the players feet the one were you go around in a circle with the analog stick (r3). Looks class when it works properly.

Just slow down and relax, drift to the away from the far corner diagnally and it should put it into the far bottom corner.

Bloody Xbox pad. I can't wait 'till I get Xbox360. There are R2 and L2 bottons. I will finally be able to do those placement shots properly.

Depending on how tight the angle is, shooting to the near post often works better than going far post

If you have the time, slow down to normal dribbling pace (i.e. hold down only the d-pad direction).

Here's my advice, with paint pictures :D

Green lines are player movement with ball.
Red lines is movement for left footer.
Blues lines is movement for right footer.
Red dotted lines is shot path for left footer.
Blue dotted lines is shot path for right footer.
(This is only general advice)

1)If you are coming at the goal from dead centre of the pitch, tap shoot and hold towards right corner of goal for right footer and left corner of goal for left footer.

2)If you are coming at the goal from a central position but not straight down the middle, it's usually best to hit the ball to the far post. Also, if you are a
right footer and left of centre, or left footer and right of centre, open your body out to face the far corner and tap shoot (close to the goalkeeper).

3) If you are coming from an angle it is essential to open out the player's body towards the far corner, although there are also times when a more powerful near-corner shot is useful.

All these are just general guidelines though, the situation and it's requirement varies enormously.

When reaching the keeper all alone, press Square, then quickly press X to cancel that and he will fake the keeper into the wrong way, then tap into empty net. This works most of the time for me.

Everything said so far seems sound, i can only echo it and add this:
I find, if your striker has good stats, just slowing down to normal dribble pace, just dpad, then quite a powerful strike often works, that can compensate for trying to open the body, aiming for the corners, as any shots head height for the keeper, despite being close usually go in for me.

Secondly the [] to charge up followed by R1 before it finishes is quite successful, often confuses the keeper, he goes down and the shot goes up =D
