Top speed is just your raw pace, basically whenever you're holding down the sprint button. With dribbling speed though, I think that is more relevant to how fast you turn with the ball at your feet, how quickly you can side-step etc.
I have an important question regarding "interceptions". What is deemed as an interception on this game, for some reason I believed tackling someone would count towards my interception stats but obviously not as I just made 5 tackles in my England match and dispossessed my opponent, but only had 1 interception come the end of the match. Is it purely just intercepting the ball in the middle of a pass and picking up stray balls ?

nopppeee its not .. not sure what the highest is but i've had a 9 and a 8.5 .. the 9 was with begginer diff. but the 8.5 was on top player .. i scored 4 goals againt benfica
lol .. not sure how they count it .. but if you score a goal and you win its a 7.5 automatically i think

Won't be right, plenty of times we've won, even due to my winning goal and I'll only receive a 7.0 etc.

Yes. Yes. When you sprint with the ball, it's still dribble speed. When you kick it far (R2) during a sprint-dribble, you will chase it based on top speed.

Quick Question:
Is there a trick to getting the nod for free-kicks?
The team lineup shows me as the designated long and short kick-taker.
However, once in game, I never get to line it up!? Very frustrating as I'd like to take a crack at some of the free-kicks.
I am set up as a SS (Playing for Juventus at the moment in my fifth season), so obviously I am not expecting to take them from the defensive half, but more the 18 - 30 yard range with a chance at putting it in the net.

While with before the World Cup with Chelsea I won the Champions League and top scorer and got a good average ratings, yet I did not win the Player of The Tournament.
Why is this happening ? anyone got any clue ?

Quick question about ps2 version. has anyone played for their country outside of the european championships. I have played for england at two touramnets, but never get called any other time. I pretty much run the show when i played for england but get dumped from the squad for 4 years. has anyone had the same problem ?

Top speed = speed without the ball (only), and likely when you kick it far ahead as well.
Dribble speed = speed with the ball. Response, and agility affect your turning ability. Dribble accuracy is more your ability to retain posession. Dribble speed is just your maximum pace when running in a straight line.
Acceleration affects both (i.e. how fast you get up to top speed without the ball, or how fast you get up to top dribble speed with it).

I have gotten a 8.5 once.
You cant do anything, you just got to hope your team buys people. Which after 3 seasons with Boro, so far, nothing.. I'm getting sick of it, I want to see some new talent come into the team... Its getting frustrating.

i know its really frustrating isnt it...i had the same thing, but decided to move clubs so i could be around some fresh faces...i recommend you doing the same thing if your getting angry loool!...i mean i was at portsmouth for some time and nothing was happening, no new players nor fresh talent, transferred to Chelsea then my dream move to Real Madrid was offered to me...I TOOK IT BABYYY! lool...but back to your point lool!...i think if you move from boro, it could lead to better opportunity's also...meaning more fun on BAL!...

Yeah I think I'm coming to this realization. Unfortunately. Boro are my team and would love to stay long. I think I may move off and then somehow try to get back and play with them before I retire
who knows. Someone said to try uping the transfer frequency to high and maybe we will see some more moves.mat_reynolds

Just wondering how you get the special abilities. Now I have been reading through the previous threads and they suggest that the attribute required for the special ability needs to be above 75. Im sorry to inform you that this is not the case, I have 78 long pas acc and 75 short pass acc but still no playmaker tick...unless of cause the special abilities match your development curve??? Oh yeah one other thing, my housemate plays as a SS an he started with scoring specail ability, I play AMF and have scored loads of goals (in my 5th season) yet still no star...weird. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I've seen a alot of people asking about the special abilities and how to gain them. So i thought i would make a thread about it. i know quite a few of them but feel free to either correct me or post your own.
Dribbling; Dribble accuracy, Dribble Speed, Technique. 75+
Tactical Dribble; Dribble accuracy, Technique, 80+
Reaction; Acceleration, Response, 75+
Shooting from Distance; Shot tech, Shot power, 80+
Playmaking; Short pass acc, Long pass acc, 80+
Passing; Short pass acc, Short pass speed, 90+
1-on-1 scoring; Shot acc, Shot tech, 90+
Penalties; Shot acc, 90+
Another thing.
I suppose most of you have seen the Special ability chart in a seperate thread. The chart mentions that some abilities can only be gained by a certain position. Well i started as an AMF, but can now play SS, and got the reaction ability which is meant to be for only SS and CF. So if you can play the position you can get the ability.
I can play DMF, SMF, CMF, AMF, WF and SS.
These are some hunches i have.
Side; My dribble speed is 91 and long pass acc is 95 but i dont have the ability. so i reckon you need 95 for both.
Centre; Same as above. My short pass acc is 93. so you must need 95.
Outside of boot; Mine is 84, i have seen someone with 90. so my guess is 90.
Marking; Not sure about this. I know you need Response, Top Speed, Acceleration. You need at least 80 for this as i have 90 speed, 95 acceleration and response 75 and dont have it.
Covering; Ive mentioned my top speed. stamina is 87. need 90 or 95 not sure.

Ah right, im more of a SMF/WF so my shooting is only at about 70 so im gonna struggle. Lately the player has been missing the target on the penalty...so annoying!

By the look of things your doing quite well getting in to man utd. Like you I plated for many teams early on in my carrer, after playing countless through balls for players like hesky and jason roberts to only spoon miles over the bar, had me hurling scenes of abuse at the tv (lowest moment had to be getting to the fa cup final with west ham only to lose on pens to everton) in the end always forced me to keep changing clubs.
List of clubs I played for
1. Wigan 2. Blackburn 3. West ham 4. Totenham 5. Man utd
Now after after a season at totenham and 3 seasons at man utd and many seasons spent getting my stats up. I finally started having alot of success for club and national team winning 2 euros with england, champions league with man utd and many more league titles and fa cups + many pesonal accolades
Im about to start my 8th season now and im receiving offers from CHELSEA, arsenal, liverpool,real madrid, ac milan and couple other teams. So im guessing the more succes you have, the better clubs want you. As far as indacating what team you want to play for I dont think you can unlike what i seen on the ps2 version where you can choose what league you would prefer and wether you want to play for a big or small club. Which doesn't make much sense as you would think they would have this on 360 and ps3.
