i play with a 3-4-3 formation and it works really well if you have 3 fast and strong defenders that are good in the air and when faced by an opposing player.you can play with a dmf,2 cmfs, and amf with 2 wfs and a drogba type striker or you can play with a dmf, cmf, a l and r mf 2 ss and a striker. both options are good the first is better for building play and creating chances while the second is lethal on the couter attack.both are solid in defence and is a really good option

sounds good might try that

I play 4-3-1-2. GK: Fredriksson, RB: Bianchi, CB's: Palmieri and Jean, LB: Hoffmann, CMF: Prieto, RMF: Shaw, LMF: Kaiser, AMF: Camacho, CF's: Rowland and Orellano. Evry player in my starting 11 is a newcomer cuz dey av better growth den existing players

I prefer 4-1-3-2 or 4-4-2 diamond, and i always let defenders to play that DM role cos they are taller and stronger, and they tend to sit back more than normal defensive midfielders, this really provides extra safty to the back four. It is even better if they have good shot power, for example, i use Diaz to play that role, his shot power is 96, and he scores lots of spectacular goals for me, because he is a defender so he won't make forward runs, so i just pass back to him and let him take the long shot. goal no 2 and 3 are the best examples.

And i intend to let my SS and MR play wide, the formation is like this:

--------------------------GK

--------------DR -----DC-----DC
--------------------------------------DL

-------------------------DM

-----------------------------------ML/MC
---------------MR--------AM

----------------------------------SS

------------------------CF

well nive read through and no one has mentioned my fav formation which is:

ill use barca as an example.

----------------valdez----------------
thuram----------puyol----------marqauz
----------------iniesta----------------
-------ronaldinho----------deco-------
messi-----------------------------gudjohnson
------------------------------henry----------
-------------------eto'o--------------------

just a nice 3-1-2-4 ultra attacking garenteed goals needs strong defenders tho.

or for some like inter a nice 3-4-3 works out well.

This is THE formation

...........................................Casillas

Nicolita.............Metzelder.....................Ramos.................Mathieu

...........................................Diarra..................................................

..........................................Veron...................................................

........J. Cole................................................................Ribery............

............................Robinho................Agbonlahor................................

Diarra mops up everything at the back and veron's feet are so quick and he's strong enough to hold the ball and get his passing game going to create things.
Having Cole and Ribery so wide and so high up mean there always an outlet and that they push back the opposing teams full backs.

that formation seems to work for me play good attacking mids or wingers in the cm position to help break and usually play strikers or really fast wingers in the am slots really good for passing thru the oppo with 5 mids and 2 attacking full backs also is fairly solid with the midfield helpin to close down oppo and dm fillin in if 1 of the full backs get caught up field

I like to play with 4-2-1-2-1, you get really good counter attacks with it, and when you come of the wing the midfielders are always open, and you can try a long shot

Surely the days of 'one formation for all situations' is long gone? Don't we all change during games, depending on the situation?

i love using the 4-5-1 formation with hamburg now(with two DMF,2 SMF,and 1 AMF).......i use to use 4-4-2 all the time but i let in way to many goals.......in my last master league season i scored like 55 goals in the 38 games but let in like 40 goals........i let in more goals then the 20th place team and still came in 3rd place..lol.

one of the best formations i have ever used:

use the barca formation as a base but change the SS on the right to a RWF and move him out wide as far as possible on the wing

then change the central SS to a CF and move him forward a few places

then move the left SS forward a few

move each midfielder forward one et voila

----------------GK--------------------
---------CB-----------CB-------------
RB----------------------------LB-------
----------------DMF-------------------
--------------------------------------
-----------CMF-----------------------
---------------------------------------
---------------------AMF----------------
-----------------------------------------
RWF------------------------SS-------
----------------CF-------------------

this formation is excellent for attack and counter attack as the RWF is rarely marked and always has lots of room, but use a fast winger for this position

I prefer a 4-4-2 with one amf instead of a smf (like argentina's riquelme). It is based on manchester utd's formation.
Note: this is my dream team, not in master leauge as i haven't started yet

---------------------------Cech GK-----------------------------
----------------4. Lucio CB-----------------5. Stam CB----------
----------------------------------------------------------------
-2. Zanitti RB------------------------------------3. Riise LB------
---------------------------------6.Essien Cmf/Dmf---------------
-----------------9. Gerrard Cmf----------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------- 8. Juninho Lmf
----------------------------------------------------------------
------------7. Messi Amf ---------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------10. Bergkamp ss----------
----------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------- 11. Henry Cf----------------------

This is my starting XI. why?
1.- well, uhm, to protect the goal. i mean, what else?
2. right back- att. and defends down the flanks. proivides crosses
3. left back- put him closer to the pitch so that he will run in when juninho is wide out and take shots, as that is what riise is good at.
4. and 5. center backs. plays high up. one strong, one fast
6. Center mid/def. mid (ur choice)- covers for more att. players. def. shield.
7. att. mid (playing from right)- could move to wing or cut in. when cut in, reassemble 4-3-3 as messi, bergkamp, and henry as att. and juninho moves to the middle, then gerrard and juninho lurk outside the box for a shot. Zanitti will cover the wing for If messi moves out, then reassemble 4-4-2, as messi moves to the wing.
8. Lmf- juninho may go wide most the time but due to lack of speed and a more adequate right foot (like malbranque), he would play more inwards and help gerrard in the orchestration of attacks. when he plays wide, riise will cut in.
9. cmf- att. one. He will be the one who starts the play and also capable of scoring. he will also wait for a setup for a shot.
10. ss- (I had to use dennis bergkamp as he is my all-time hero) he is the playmaker of the team (along with gerrard), and also has and eye for goal. plays through balls to teamates
11. cf- he is the principle goal scorer. he latches onto through balls and outruns defenders. also goal poacher.
