Buying euro version of PES 2010 in USA

So I want to buy the EU version because Konami ignores us in the US and the best option files only work for the EU version. I go to play.com and under technical details it says this:

Technical Details
Region PAL: Will play on UK and European Playstation3 only :shocking:

This is news to me because I know several people have purchased the european version of the game last year and played it on their NA PS3. Could this be true?

Thanks,

they say that but the ps3 is region free.. but i would add that as far as dlc i think its region locked.. so if konami release dlc it could be locked in different countries...

im not sure what way the option files work... maybe someone might be able to clarify on this...

you can import the game and the EU-option files will work fine.
for downloadable content u will need a EU account but that's all.

Thanks for the responses, but I think you are going to have to dum it down a bit for me. What is dlc? Further, how would I "import" the game?

The reason I thought I could do this was because numerous people from this forum did this last year and were able to benefit from the tremendous option file work that many people in the EU do and konami's more frequent updates. I would like to take advantage of this, but I don't really want to have to do any additional work or spend any additional money to make it work. It isn't worth it that much to me.

Thanks,

I pre-ordered the European PS3 version from an ebay store in Australia, as I was having trouble setting up an order through either shopto.net or play.com. The European version will work fine on a US PS3, as long as it is hooked up to an HDTV. It's only if you're using an old standard def NTSC television that you'll run into trouble. The 360 version is another story altogether, as 360 games are not region free. As for DLC (downloadable content), that should also download fine, without the need to create a European PSN account. I have a game that I imported from Asia, and whenever there's a software update, it downloads automatically on my US PS3.

Hope that helped alleviate your concerns.

BloodyYank, thanks for the info. But would I really have difficulty playing the game if I didn't have an HDTV? To what degree? Are you saying it can not be played on a regular TV? One of my televisions is and the other is not.

And I don't mean to not believe you, but why would play.com say that the game only works on EU playstations? I mean, if it wasn't true, why would they limit their potential customers?

Thanks,

All ps3 games are region free. I got Fifa 10 from Ebay and it shipped from Hong Kong and it works fine on my ps3. No problems at all with it.

I can only guess at why play.com says the game only works on EU PS3s. I know it will only work on EU 360s and PS2s, so maybe they didn't change the description between the 360 or PS2 and PS3 versions. I do know that every other website specifies that the PS3 version is region free, and as a general rule, all PS3 games are region free.

As for why it won't work if you are using a US standard def television, that's a little more complicated. You see, the signal that European televisions receive, either from a broadcaster, a DVD, a game console, or what have you, is called PAL, whereas in the US, an NTSC signal is used. So, even though a PS3 blu-ray from any region will play in a PS3 in any other region, a European PS3 blu-ray disc is still using a PAL signal. Without getting too much into the whys and wherefores of it (which would take too long), the fact that a European disc is using a PAL signal doesn't matter when it's being transmitted to an HDTV set, because the nature of the HD technology makes it universal to all regions. However, if you have your PS3 hooked up to a standard def NTSC set, the PAL encoding on a European disc will be incompatible with the NTSC architecture of that TV set.

Hope I didn't just make things more confusing for you.

As a quick addendum, I might not be 100% correct about PAL region PS3 games not working on standard def NTSC sets. Apparently, unless it's a really old set, the games will still work. There seem to be some conflicting reports on the internet.

I am in the asme boat as you. I emailed Konami and this is what I got...

Dear Konami Customer,

Thank you for contacting Konami Support. You can play the disc on your PS3, but you will be on the North American, not the European servers.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Hello Konami

First of all, I would like to say that I am an avid Konami Pro Evolution Player, and is a owner or PES 2009. I have a few question to ask regarding Pro Evolution Soccer 2010.
First, I live in Ottawa, Canada and is wondering when is the demo available in North America (location:Canada)?
Second, I am going to purchase PES 2010, but is wondering if I buy the European version from U.K. will it work on my Playstation 3 system in Canada?
And third, in the future I will be downloading patches, and update online, and will my game from Europe will be able to support it?

Thank for your time.

Regards, Hussain

don't worry mate. All ps3 consoles can play any region of ps3 game. I'm from asia, malaysia, i bought pes09 R2 which is euro version, It was problem free when playing the R2 pes09 in my Japanese Na ps3 version. My consoles able to play From R1 to R3..( in our country, we can buy any region you wish to).

But one thing should remember, if you own euro version, oyu must create euro account to get the latest patch.

You don't need an Euro account to play online or to download Konami's updates.
If the game is European then your PS3 will download everything released for the Euro game. Same for all regions.
I've played online and downloaded 1.20, 1.30 and 1.40 with my UK PES2009 using my American account.
However like someone pointed out before, you have to play in a HDTV, in an American SDTV you just won't see shit if your using a PAL game.
