Can't do skills

I can do the fake shot and stepover but I'm struggling to do the other skills - I've seen the tutorials but I'm obviously not doing what I'm supposed to and the command list in the game is confusing and in jinglish so makes no sense at all.

How are you guys doing it?

I mean surely doing a spin move should just be as easy as doing a circle on the right stick and the and the flip flap is just one direction on each stick but I still can't do it.

Tried using messi in training etc...

Turn off "auto feint" in your personal settings. When its on, the game decides what skill is appropriate to pull off in the situation rather than what your trying to do. Its a dumb setting if you ask me, but I don't really use tricks that often so maybe it has some use. Skills you are trying to do are a lot easier after you turn if off.

No wonder I keep doing that stupid spin move whenever I try to do a simple "Ronaldo chop".

I don't really use tricks that often also. So I just turn on "auto feint" so that the player will do some feint depending on the situation. But not sure also if it helps:D I focus more on team play than individual skills when I play.

Haha, yeah thats the problem. Everything should be alot easier for ya now. Only discovered it recently myself when I kept on doing that spin thing myself and was wondering what the fuck was going on.

Well, you have to try to pull off some type of feint first before the AI will do anything. A horrible setting. Does anyone use auto feint on and find it any good?

I believe you don't need to press a "skill command" so that the Ai will do anything. I think that setting is made so that you can do simple feints by just using the L-stick, depending on the situation. That's why i use it. I'm not really sure if it helps but I've been using Auto feint "ON" since PES5, PES6 and PES2015. The dribbling feels smoother but that's just me.

One thing, I'm not sure why they need to alter the "still commands" when the "auto feint" is on.

When Auto Feint is on the game decides what trick to try when you move the RIGHT stick. No tricks with the left one. When it is off, you pull off skills by combinations of left AND right stick. See command list for more.

Thanks for all the replies.

I've definitely got auto-feint off so that's a good start.

Do you have to press the stick combos at the same time?
So for example, when you do the spin move you press the left stick in the direction you're going at the same time as quickly doing a circle on the right stick?

I gotta say I'm super impressed with this pro evo despite a few of the usual niggles here and there and dribbling is so effective when you time your direction and pace changes to perfection you can really jink in and out of trouble in tight spaces.

I would just like to have total control over the players and score some unreal goals!

It's ridiculously easy to do tricks in 16, just get close to the defender (take your finger off sprint helps^^) but you can also have great success pre-empting tricks (or starting the combination process before the ball lands at your feet - this is great for getting you out of tight spots if the ball is played to you while in a tight spot i.e. defenders extremely close or touching you), once they are close use combinations of R-stick one direction (or rotate in half or quarter circles backwards or forwards - for step overs and reverse step overs) L-stick another direction (depending on what way you face and which direction you wish to travel), after some practice you'll know which apply to achieve what you want.

Don't forget to also change speed (juggle R2 and R1 at varying speeds to achieve different results), so slow then fast then slow etc - this not only helps burst away but may also initiate another dribble animation by which even better positional tricks can be achieved.

Once you've got the hang of that you can start adding R-stick presses (pressing in the right stick which flicks the ball off the ground slightly) into your combinations and then you'll really begin to take the piss out of the defence.

Hope this helps. Let me know how you get on :)

I didn't know that. I thought you didn't need to use the R-stick. We'll, I guess I'm wrong all this time:blush:

With "auto feint ON" though, It doesn't decide what skills to pull off. It will still pull of skills depending on the combination of R-stick and L-stick you press. The combinations are just different from "auto feint OFF"

This video is good example. It's from 2015 but I think it is the same as 2016. All the skills he teaches here is with the "AUTO feint ON". So it means that the tricks are activated by specific combination of buttons. You still decide what skills even it "Auto feint ON", not the game.

Lol, now I am confused regarding Auto Feint. What does it do exactly. Here is what the ingame tool tip says:

ON: Eay-to-pull skill controls will be selected semi-automatically based on the direction of movement.
OFF: All skill controls will be executed manually

All those who get it, please explain.

Auto feint: you move the right analog stick in the direction you want to feint to be done. The CPU will select one from all the feint that allow you to go to that direction.

Manual feint: you have to move the left stick to choose where you want to go. The right stick is used to make the feint (select the movement of the player), and the left to choose the final direction in which the ball will go (select the movement of the ball).

This way, auto feint removes the right stick action, allowing you to choose just the ball movement and not the feint itself.

Wow, thanks that makes complete sense. Now I wonder why have I always had it on off... Again, thanks, it is very good info.

I don't get this one because the left stick controls the direction you finish the skill move whether Auto feint is ON or OFF.

With auto-feint - You use R-stick and a trick happens - it would be nice to think it is in relation to your direction etc, but under testing (I don't care what the instructions say because half the time most of the stuff doesn't work - particularly the tactical commands) I've arrived at the conclusion that its a bit random.

So to sum it up just move with L-stick then when you want to trick just push the R-stick - something will happen, lucky dip! Might not always be what you want but hey I guess it's better than nothing, esp if you have no clue about tricks or have any desire to learn.

LOL. I got it now. I didn't know that those are the tricks that rebelinho is talking about.
I thought what he mean is that it's possibble to do the "tricks and skills" that needs R and L stick in Auto feint OFF, with just the R-stick in auto feint ON.

Anyways, I don't have a problem doing tricks :) Just got curious what Auto feint ON and OFF is all about.:)

OK let me butt in here for a sec.

I made myself a real study of auto feint and tricks when I got back to PES in 2013. I was always one of the few pure skillers in FIFA and now I'm one of the few in PES. I never see my opponent use skillmoves this much.

People here talking about only using right stick with auto feint on are wrong.

The real difference between auto feint on and off:

Auto feint On indeed means that some tricks will be chosen by the game, like a Marseille turn or Ronaldo chop but still has to be done with the right and left stick combination. Example. A roullete (walking from left to right) right stick push right / then left stick push right. Also, a roulette and step on skills are tricks that won't be random even with auto feint on.

Only the body feints and scissors can be used by right stick only.

As far as I learned through my studies, you can't perform a hocus spocus with auto feint on.

Auto feint off simply gives you all the freedom in the world, but some tricks could be difficult to perform in some situations.
