What's up everyone? Just picked up WEPES2007 the other day. First WE/PES title I've ever played. I don't think I've played a soccer (footie for you chavs, ;-)) title since like FIFA 99 or 2000. My brother owns the PS2 so I haven't bought many titles for it. When the World Cup came around last year I was really hankering for a game. Thought about picking up WE9 but was turned off by the lack of licensed teams at the time. Decided to wait and hope they'd get the licenses
With the new release I couldn't hold out any longer. Based on what I've read and seen, FIFA looks to be the better presented game (graphics, sound, licenses). But as has been the case for years, it sounded like the gameplay in WE2007 was still superior. So I caved and bought it. I'm enjoying it so far.
Thinking about stopping by Best Buy after work tonight, if the weather doesn't get too bad, to see if they have the Max Drive for 25 bucks as someone mentioned in a thread. I'm hesitant to order one for 30-40 (plus shipping) since this is probably the only game I will ever use it for considering there may not be another one on the PS2. Ordering it would essentially change the price of the game from 40 bucks to 70-80 bucks.
Anyway, I have some comments/questions on the game and I won't bother starting a new thread for them.
What's with the lack of licenses? Is Konami too cheap to shell out for them or did EA buy exclusive rights like they've done with Madden and the NFL over here in the states. I hate them for that.
I just started doing a master league on the second hardest difficulty. I had played some matches on beginner (what a joke) and regular (still too easy) and decided to go with a higher level. What I didn't realize is that you start with terrible players in ML. Consequently I have been lost every game with only one goal scored in 4 games so far. Should I change the difficulty back down to regular? It seems like I rarely get a scoring opportunity, and even when I do, it's not a very good one. My players have not once gotten a head on a cross or corner. Also, it seems like when I am attacking, I've only got one or two men pushed up with defenders right on top of them. However, when the computer attacks my defenders are all several yards off of their players allowing passes right to the top of the box. Is this some gameplan I'm using/not using, or just a result of my poor players?
Doing the tutorials, I'm having problems with the free kicks. I can't really get them to curve around the walls at the higher difficulties. Any suggestions?
Also, what's up with super cancel being R1 + R2? Horrible button combination. You have to actively think about pressing those two, meaning you can't just react instantly like you need to. I can't beat that tutorial either.
Finally, I get a little frustrated with challenging for a ball near the box. X is the challenge button, but square or circle are used to clear. When there's a loose ball in the box it can be hard to tell who has it, so I press x to make sure if the opponent has it I'm trying to steal it. Problem is, if I do steal it, or I have it, I end up passing to a teammate standing right next to me who gets it stolen immediately. Any ideas on how to deal with that?
Sorry about the long winded post.
