So after a couple of days I have finally got Peter Crouch up. Partly due to Being very busy, but also partly due to taking a LOT of time, lot more than I usually do making sure he is just right.
The first thing I want to say about Peter Crouch is that for a player who is 198cm tall, he is not what you would expect. He is a different package to what his size would suggest. So firstly he has good first touch. Most players who are of a large frame have a touch which isnt the best, mainly due to the fact they are further away from the ball so its harder to judge. Peter is an exception in the sense of for a man his size he has a great first touch. The technique value for Peter has been adjusted many times and now his rating of 84 is PERFECT. Ingame his first touch is close and subtle, and he is comfortable recieving the ball under a bit of pressure. He has a dribble accuracy of 80 which also raises another point about Peter. He is COMFORTABLE on the ball, something a lot of big players are not. An 80 for dribble accuracy means he is going to be able to move around on the ball nicely, plus with an agility of 76 is going to be able to manouvre well for a man of his size.
Now onto his the physical aspects of Peter's game. As I said Peter is not what you would expect for a man of his size, and the first issue we can derive from this is his Physical presence and his strength. 77 is a high figure relatively for Strength, but if you look at it in the context of Peter Crouch, is surprisingly low. For example other big players like Ibrahimovich and Viduka are very strong, and this is mainly due to a more developed upper body. Peter doesnt have the same kind of Strength as those players, which is due to being not built so well. What strength he does have though comes from his height. So 77 is a great value when taking into account his real life qualities and his height. Two values which will seem more appropriate for a man of his size though, are top speed and acceleration. He definitely isnt the fastest so a 70 for top speed means he is only going to trouble the slowest defenders with pace. A 68 for acceleration may seem harsh, but is very accurate. The fact is that Peter Crouch does not have sufficient muscle development in his legs, and cannot get much force into reaching his peak speed. Some may say, hold on, Peter sometimes gets to loose balls first though. But this is due to his high RESPONSE.
This raises a great point which I spoke to a new stat editor about recently. An important aspect of stats is achieving the balance between certain stats. Getting two levels exactly right which will contribute to achieving one feature realistically. This is a great example. Peter is slow off the mark, but has a good response, so the reason he picks him some loose balls ahead of the defender is he is more AWARE. We can see that if we have 68 in acceleration and 83 in defence, ingame defenders will be able to outrun him, but Peter gets a litttle bit of a head start as he is more aware of when a ball comes loose.
Passing is a part of Peter's game which has both good and elements which he could maybe improve on. Firstly, he has good accuracy with his short passes. 77 means he is going to be good at rolling the ball around and geting it to his team mates. The downside are his passes are SLOW. This probably stems from the fact that Peter is certainly not about power and physicallity as other players are. His game is subtle, and when I say he rolls the ball around, thats exactly what he does. ROLLS! This is reflected in his short pass speed, with 66 a value which means ingame his passes lack pace and crispness, just like in real life.
Shooting is a good area for Peter. Throughout this season he has developed a little bit of cutting edge to his shot accuracy. A value of 80 means ingame, he is definitely a threat in the box. Again power isnt Peter's fortay, and so he doesnt blast his shots goalwards, but again, tries to be more accurate. The part of Peters game of which sometimes lets him down is his ability to get good shots off under high amounts of pressure. 73 is still a good value for shot technique, but it means that ingame, playing against some of the stronger defenders who are great at man marking, he will encounter some problems getting shots off as accurately as he is capable of.
The final point I want to raise is his heading and jump ability. Again a point which doesnt quite seem to match up with the type of person he is. You would expect him to be very good at heading the ball. Sure he wins a lot of the ball, mainly due to his height, but his accuracy at headed passes and shots is sometimes a bit lacklustre. 78 means he is going to be able to give good direction on his headers, but sometimes puts them straight at the goal keeper, which we have seen him do numerous times this season. So with a leap of 70 and his height you are going to win a lot of headers. It is only when you come up against players with tremendous leap like Cordaba, Canavarro and Makelele that you find Peters ineptness at headers becomes slightly exposed.
