used to be a huge winning eleven / pro evo fan until 2007. the franchise is ruined. bought the game after reading a few good things about the game here. couldn't even finish the first game cause it is so terrible.
sincerely, i feel fooled by people on this website. i feel like leaving pesgaming cause i really cannot understand how can someone say this is a good game.
simply, disgraceful. another very poor effort by konami.
If you didn't even play a full game, you are in no position to judge it, really.
But it would be nice if you said something about what exactly you found so terrible, because if it's the first touch, the passing or other stuff that depends on your players and your control over them it's probably easily fixed by learning to play the game all over. PES2011 does require some adjusting compared to the 2009->2010 jump.
If it's AI related, then it's more difficult to do anything about it, but one of the first things I did when I got the game was to adjust all team styles by 3 points down in pressure and 4 points down in attacking style. Compactness is set to 14 on the "normal" teams, 12-13 on the good teams and 15+ on the lesser teams.
This completely change the game, as the AI is able to do stuff with the ball before pressured off the ball, and everyone get a little bit more time on the ball, including you and results in BAL are more on par with the rest of the league.
It is a bit annoying that Konami seem to ignore the fact that their default team instructions are completely ass every year, but to do every team in the game "only" takes a good hour. I also set central defenders to join attack on set pieces too, which results in much more dangerous corner situations that especially weaker teams with big badass defenders take advantage of.
The game is far from perfect, but I believe PES2011 is a huge step in the right direction and I enjoy it more than I have enjoyed any footy game since "Goal" and "Kick Off - Player Manager" on my Amiga.
The occational AI bug that the "wrong" player chase the ball, or AI player seems to have lost its scripting occationally is very much annoying, but it happens to CPU too, which leads me to believe that this is not intentional by Konami to make CPU score important late goals or similar.
I also think your approach to the game matters in any footy game, including FIFA. If you approach each match with the intent to score as many goals as friggin possible, it will severely damage the enjoyment of the game. I may win 10-0 over Brazil with this approach, but I may also end up drawing 0-0 or even lose by doing this approach. However, I will rarely see any "realistic" gameplay with this approach. Instead I approach the game with the intent to play beautiful football, wait for the great opportunities to play the defense cleaving pass and generally play possessive football with a semi high risk factor. I also regularly try difficult dribbles against two defenders, long shots and Crosses from byline or from the deep. This all give me a fairly good variation where I don't always win, but I make damn sure I am the most stylish looking team, regardless of the result.
Losing a game once in a while is a part of football, if I never lost, it would not be fun to win. The reason I mentioned FIFA in the beginning of this phrase is because I am able to enjoy FIFA with this approach as well, but the reason why I enjoy PES much more is because in FIFA you quite often score even when you're not really trying to. Tevez crushing Rio Ferdinand in the air etc. It's too damn simple, where PES is much less simple, and I don't always score when I try really hard.
