cpu just passing the ball around the back, boring as hell

with the playstation network down i got stuck into master league over christmas and one huge problem i'm picking up on is even when the cpu are losing 1 or 2 - 0, instead of trying to get a goal back they just pass it back and forth between their midfield and defence, i don't even have to apply any pressure either, what team in their right mind would just start passing it around the back at just 1-0 down? this is on the highest difficulty level as well!

Hmmmm. Does this happen in EVERY match that the CPU is behind in ? If so, then that would likely be a fault with the game.

On the other hand, if it only happens sometimes, then it could be a deliberate tactic that the CPU is using. It could be keeping possession of the ball with the intention of getting your team to attack even more, and then hit you on the counterattack in an attempt to equalise.

However, this would be quite unusual, as teams normally play counterattack when they're LEADING, not when they're behind.....:erm:

it happens a lot, to give you a scenario i was winning 2-1 in the champions league final against atletico madrid in master league and i was also down to ten men after 76th minute and all the cpu did for the last 10 minutes was pass back and forth between midfield and defence in their own half with no urgency, it's so stupid, barca do the same thing in the game and i know they hold onto possession well in real life but that's in the opposition's half and not like in pes where they just pass between their midfield and defence in their own half.

another issue i have is that if u pass back to ur keeper, the opposition take forever to press the keeper to play the ball, in fact sometimes i can pass back to the keeper and the cpu will just stand their watching until the final whistle goes, it's really poor programming and have to question if the ai in this game are really better than fifa's ai?

Some teams do it, other don't. That's why I find much easier to win with my possession game against Bayern or Chelsea than Belenenses, FC Copenhagen or else. If they want to you don't even smell it. And as you increase difficulty it will get worse.

I must say that at least with me, it is s pretty ineffective tactic. If I'm winning I'll let them do their stuff, if I'm losing or drawing the only thing that happens is that I get more yellow cards.

Perhaps when this happens you're playing teams that have their tactics preset to play possession football. Have you tried checking those teams' tactics sliders in the "Game Plan" section ? Go to the "help" menu inside it by pressing the "select" button on your controller. It explains what each tactic, formation, style e.t.c. does, and then you can maybe alter the relevant sliders to increase or decrease their effect on the team's play.
