Defending Against Computer !

I am a Pro Evo Fan and when you play against the computer it is like when the computer wants to score they score.
When I am playing against the computer i can always tell when they are going to score because of the way the pass the ball and theres nothing you can do about it.

They never use skill to score, the get very lucky like crosses and then your defenders heads the wrong way or takes a bad touch and it lands right at the feet of one of their players or the keepers makes a bad save and the rebound goes right to a opponent OR your defenders marking the man looking for the pass the run away from the man looking for a pass leaving him free for a easy scoring opportunity.

This is why it is difficult to keep a clean sheet against the computer.
And plus it is easier for the computer to dive and succeed.

Any Comments ?

Sounds like you have the PS3 version.

I have the same problems. It's called "Team Vision AI", aka "cheating bastard".

Best defence i've found is to play a back 4 with 2 deep DMF's. One with attack arrow pointing back towards your own net. It helps cover if you take a defender up the park.

No matter what formation you use, the AI will still cheat. Sorry.

I think this is present in all the versions of PES2008 (including earlier PES's), especially the next gen versions.
Like what you said, if they wanna score, they will score...all of you tackles and touches would act as a perfect through-ball for them.
The only way i can counter this is to hack them down, even if it means a red card. But make sure it is not in an area where it is around 25 yards from goal otherwise the resulting freekick would certainly go in.

EDIT: I only use this technique when I am one goal ahead or when I am drawing in the final minutes.

know exactly how you feel mate - this is my main beef with pes08 - i've learned to live without the boots and other features - but im getting increasingly more p!ssed off with the way the computer just strolls up the park. i've tried a few tried and trusted formations incl my favourite from pro ev's goneby the trusty staggered 4-4-2 with two wingers high up the park a sitting centre midfielder and a more attacking centre mid. however, the formation i've been using more recently is a 4-5-1 come sortof4-3-3 (much as it pains me to use such a negative tactic) with three cm's (arrows back and forward) and two wingers high up the park as wide as you can get them - problem being this leaves you only one striker which creates its own problems

i feel this pro ev has stifled the usual attack minded football i find synonymous with other pro ev's. sure i can play an attacking 433 or 442 but inevitably the computer will score at least as many as i do!!

and another thing why oh why do my side backs keep tucking in to the 18 yard line when the comp is attacking down their wing?? despite my attempts to tailor the arrows to counter this they just ignore me!

ok ok rant over!

I usually set my SBs to mark the wingers if they are dangerous, especially against teams like Barcelona or Newcastle who play 433 with two wingers high up the park.

Or if you're playing Milan you would mark Kaka in the centre with DM.

Marking doesn't stop the computer scoring if it wants to but it can help, especially if the player marking has marking as a special ability and is a decent DM

Now I'm thinking I did that in the past, why didn't I think about it now.
Thanks mate, good tip.

Played on my mates rotbox before xmas and the defence doesn't seem as ropey. Certainly not compared to the PS3's...

I didn't notice a lot of difference, though I admit I didn't play the old PS3 for that long. I've never had a problem with defending though, certainly not to the scale of any of these cooked up conspiracies...

So you don't suffer the annoying rebound syndrome?

My ML team is Bolton, and though i'm winning, i can guarendamntee that Jussi will spill 3-4 easy saves onto oncoming forwards.

My defensive set-up works well for me, but theres no answer to keeper AI incompetence.

No, not really, I mean there is the odd spill but they are quite rare (and not stupid ones either, proper parries from long shots etc). Must be Jamo in goal I suppose.

That's more like what happened on my mates slutbox.

I've also had the pleasure of playing the PS2 version. Defences and keepers are rock solid by comparison.

Don't get me wrong, i like the open flowing play going forwards, but the defensive AI is a real shitter sometimes.

Is the whole "offensiveword-box" bit necessary? Either way though I do think my style of play benefits defending, I often try to push the computer out wide, allowing them only to put in a cross which I can generally deal with with my two CB's so maybe that's part of it, though you are probably right and there could well be console differences.

Apologies for the colloquialism, but it's habit. Comment noted & I shall aim to refrain. Especially as i am jealous of Forza 2. PS3 is lacking a quality driving game and all that.

Back on topic, pushing them wide is a good tactic, easier to close them down using pressure from DMF, however, headers are easy to score from on the PS3 version, especially from corners. When i played my mate on the PS, i could score almost at will, the Xbox was another matter.

Again, i think this is more to do with inept defensive AI than skill.

sounds like a good shout mate ive come to the conclusion this pro ev lends itself more to the setting of strategies etc and more in depth tacitcal approach as in years gone by i never bothered setting marking or goin into set up strategies as it seemed easy enough to get comfortable with a formation and proceed on that basis!

that said i could just be looking into things too deeply!

all for the love of the game tho eh!!

cheers for the tip

I started doing it on pes6.

Feel a bit of an idiot when I'm playing online, the other players seem to always submit their team without changing formation or any settings but it does really help
