Has anyone got any tips on defending techniques.
Used to be excellent on pes6,I know its a different game but its impossible to keep a clean sheet even against crap teams.

The main thing on defending is to try to anticipate where the attacker is going/what he is about to do, which is easier to do against the computer, but is still quite difficult. When defending from corners, I've found using the R1 + R2 cancel can work as it allows you to put the attacker off, and also on some occasions I've won free kicks from the oppositions corner. It helps to have Centre backs who are tall and pretty quick too, as with players like Ceciu or Stremer, in terms of defending it's pot luck if you keep it out the goalor not.

I feel the same mate, this game feels unbalanced in terms of attack to defence and it means high-scoring games as opposed to tight rewarding games. I have tips for defending, but I myself let in goals often too, I think it's impossible to keep clean sheets as frequently as in PES6. Bets thing to do is to just wait a lot of the time and wait for the opposition to commit to a form of attack whether it be on the wing or through the middle. As said above, holding X (on the 360) or Square (PS3) will bring another player across to pressure the player but continuously holding it is vitrual suicide. Only use it when another player is very close by as otherwise a CB or key defender maybe pulled out of position leaving your opposition a guaranteed goal. Sit back and don't lunge in unless you know 100% you'll win the ball, because the opposition's dribbling abilities on this game are god-like so lunging in will result in them usually sidestepping you. Instead, sit off and wait, try and keep every player in their positions or as close to their positions as possible and they will find it very difficult to find gaps.

However on the other hand, there is CPU cheating so sometimes it's actually impossible to keep a clean sheet, because when the CPU wants to score, it will just score no matter how hard you're trying or what you're doing to prevent them.

Good luck.

that can also be used for attacking
if you've got a corner you can hit it in then make your attacker run infront of his marker :)

another useful tip is when the opponent has the ball at the sides of your box stand off and hold r2 this will make your player jockey and will prevent you from getting skinned and will give u a better chance of preventing crosses its really useful and should be used but it does take some time to perfect

R2 seems like it will be pretty usefull so,Im very attack minded from playing pes6 but i suppose i will have to train myself to sit back and be more patient like a real game.

It may use a lot of stamina but holding R1+X+[ ] will do everything for you; charging, pressing and nipping the ball.

As a lot of people mentioned timing can be very important.. bot me i find i tbetter when i don't use the dash button so much.. in fact i rarely use te X button now as well.. i find it better if you predict were the cpu will run and you can almost steal the ball away. Corners are still a problem but the R" button can help you manually place you man in the best place to clear the ball. Having said that i did get a thumping by Spurs 4-0 yesterday.. but before that i'd managed 9 clean sheets on the trot! So its partially luck but after a while it kinda falls into place.. practise is definitely the best way to do it, experiment with different types of pressure, Square button to bring over another man, X button used sparingly.

And avoid using the Dash button to much because its far too easy for the computer to turn your man. Apart from that there's not a lot to do.

Oh and the defence is ridiculously bad anyway so you are always gonna concede at some point.. realistic scorelines yes but not realistic gameplay unfortunately

the only tiem i ever manage to keep a cleansheet on the game is when i attack for the whol ematch and the opponantonly gets 2 - 3 opportunitiesif any.

Hold x then defending it will help

Good advice.

Basically as Hunter said, Sit back and wait. The Attacker will try and skin you each time you try and rush out and tackle him so you will have to be patient. It may be slightly boring but once you get used to it, you will find this technique much more effective in the long run.

Defending is done as a team. Unless you're Real Madrid from a few years ago, you can't just have a couple of good defenders and assume you'll win tackles. Actually, that didn'y work for them Raul Bravo, anyone?

Also, having a CB with the Defensive LIne ability makes a real difference with back fours.

just dont give any room for the enemy to attack. you can do it with possession but i prefer pressing and offside traps

Personally I will always try to force players wide, and stand off generally rather than diving in.

Also, as in real life, never hesitate to put it out for a throw-in/corner, it ensures you have decent cover at the back when the ball is out of play, and is also a chance for a counter attack.

X/Square is a good function to use too.

ive been screwed numerous times in the last minute by corners when playing against the xbox.

what i have found is when defending if you dont use the sprint button until they get to about 25 yards from your goal you will more than likely get the ball before they get there. all the time you are sprint the computer just changes direction and the defender is out of the game.
and as you are aware the computer can tell its little bastard attakers to change direction in that split second when u press the button and you player moves.

doing this will also force the computer to play side to side and backwards. when they go back i spring the offside trap and eventually they run out of room as the computer wont pass to an offside player unless you have trapped them.

hope this helps

Attack is the best form of defence.

X is good, Square is good at times, but v. dangerous. R1- dont use up close to opponents or else you will commit too easily and be passed.
