Came back to pes this year after four years away but pes have a great game again and have finally took there crown back. ive been loving the game since release, playing offline, and online with friends, but last night i found myself billy no mates and decided to play some online ranked matches, i was so shocked.
pes of old you had to work hard if you were to get a goal.
what happened ?
every shot seems to result in a goal in ranked matches, some of my scores were
7-0, 6-1, 5-3, 6-4
whats happened every shot results in a goal and you spend 90min defending the 60yrd through ball, havnt experienced this online with friends most games were hard fought out
1-0, 2-0, 3-1
ranked online scores are just ridiculous very dissapointed

Sounds like you need to learn to play the game competitively. when playing with friends, people who we like, we tend to play the game perhaps as Konami imagines its customers will play it. Indeed, you probably opt to select a wide range of different teams and try to mimic real life football in the way the way that you play.

When you get mugged a couple of times online though, you will soon learn that when playing games where it is all about points making prizes, there are certain ways of playing the game that pay and certain ways that dont. The two gameplay methods that 'work' in PES 2013 are:

1) Fast counter attacking with long/through balls pays in PES 2013 (Real Madrid)

2) Cramming midfield with superstars and playing a brutal possession game unitl you can practically dirbble ball into back of net (Barca)

As for those scores you mentioned, I would say that you just don't know how to defend yet. Especially since the last update patch, the characteristic cheap goals are increasingly hard to come by as the defence simply packs out the penalty box when the ball is held up there for any length of time, most of the time all you have to do is position defender in front of attacking player (and possible cut back route) and get ready to spam the tackle/intercept button. The end result is nearly always something that looks like a shocking miss from open goal cutback from the attacking players point of view, but something that the defending player knows was nothing to sweat over due to the very high likliehood of such goal attempts being intercepted by defenders leg/boot.

None of my games have such scores ever. Even when playing some rat boy with both of us relentlessly trying mug each other, it is rare for anyone to score more than 2.

dear god man, that was one of the most intelligent post I've ever heard! with me it happens the same way, all (most part of the) games end with something like 1-0; 2-1; 2-0 and sometimes 3-1, but never such big values. maybe the tactics, opponents, playmaking style? (basically what you said)

other thing is that you should adapt your style to the players and tatctic you are playing with. for example I'm now in the middle of a ML with Juventus, and I play in 5-2-3 with a counter-atack football until I score a goal, and then "brutal, offensive possession"; and it works just fine. it's like if the players know that it is their style of playing football. find the way you play, stick to it, never play in a hurry (if you play emotionally stressed you will lose) and your games will feel so much better

BTW, when you play offline in which difficulty do you play?

mate it isn't about style or anything, the game feels restrictive offline, most of the times u find that u don't have much choice with ball, u're always pressed , plus the shooting aspect is messed up, u never know or if u are sure when striking the ball, it either goes middle of the goal, or wayward to the corner flag, you feel u don';t have confidence when being one on one, unlike previous games and mostly pes 6 and it's a feeling that is destroying my love for pes series, i never played fifa until last years fifa 12 which was good, u feel u have more time with the ball in fifa, either to dribble or pass or cross, or to do a one two

I agree with OP, I have played PES since the 1st one and have never had to defend so many through balls, like around 30-40 per game online. Its so boring, I can stop about 80% but eventually they get through, then Ronaldo auto scores. I would say im pretty good at defending. I refuse to resort to this tactic because its so dull...

I think the game is better but this part really ruins it, I enjoy PES 2012 more at this time.

Due to constant through-balls, this game doesn't allow you to sleep for a split-second. You need to use the help of the radar to make sure that you don't let players escape. Also activate your defenders as quickly as possible when you're being attacked, and make your defenders run back towards your goal so they have a head-start against the forwards of the opposition team.

Basically, you need to be alert of what's happening around you!

Yeah, never played so many people offside in the whole of last year playing pes 2012 vs this game for 2 weeks. Just think they have not tuned the defenders very well in responding to attacking play...

I am contemplating getting some speedy centre-backs. I don't think it will completely solve the problem of handling through-balls, but it will certainly help alot!
