Haven't tried too many yet but thus far none worked, the CPU did a pretty good looking one (I actually thought it was a foul) but was booked too.
I think it's ok that it doesn't work very often but overall it's a fun feature as I sometimes play a mate with some teams from Portugal or Turkey and we always dive the hell out of it in those games...

Haven't tried many in PES 2009 but in 2008 i did get a few p.k's because of them. Two in a single match against spurs

Hope it's not impossible to get away with it in this years. Unfortunately I only had it on PS2 last year so never got a chance to use it. Oh well.. practice makes perfect

i havent tried diving in my BAL game yet but it is disappointing to hear that it doesnt seem to have been improved from the old version. Having the option to take a dive might help make the game more realistic but if it cant be implemented properly it shouldnt be there, ive seen the computer dive and it has looked on the replay like a good shout for a penalty and the yellow card has come out every time. Im sure i read beofre release that they had worked o the diving to make it more realistic. Maybe it should just be taken out of the game
Also, if you dive you sometimes get booked and sometimes win a free kick/ penalty- would it not also be realistic if you sometimes got booked having not dived as the referee might wrongly think you dived when you were actually fouled- it would be frustrating getting booked when you know you should have got a penalty but it would make the game a lot more realistic (again, only if implemented properly)

good point, i see a lot of dives in real life that the referee isnt sure is defiently a dive so he doesnt give a foul or book the player. On pro, you can press to dive whilst the nearest player is about 10 yards away from you and the ref pulls out the yellow. Surely a real ref would realise that you arent trying to claim a foul as no one is anywhere near you, and therefore would assume your player has simply tripped and wave play on.

Programming the AI to reflect human response would be difficult. Just for starters, to be accurate they would have to take into account line of sight for all 3 officials, not easy to programme. Secondly and I guess most crucially, they'd have to implement some kind of fallability for all officials so that some decisions are missed.
To be honest we are more likely to get a basic %age missed calculation that would be as annoying as the old handball's... not good.

played around 50 games against my mate and managed to get 2 penalties and 1 free kick by using diving! I also got about 20 yellow cards...

I'm yet to get away with it in either master league/Legend/Champions league but when playing against friends (not on-line) it works a treat. Even better when your friend doesn't know how to do it!!!
