Dodgy Keepers

Is it just me or are the keepers a lot more dodgy than usual. I haven't played with any fully reliable keepers yet. Don't get me wrong, I think its better than before cos its more realistic. More fuck ups means more goals but even Shay Given has his fair share of blunders in PES and he doesn't often do it in reality.

To be honest I think the goalkeepers are good, I've played a lot of matches with both teams keepers putting in great performances. They do make mistakes however, although no where near the frequency of WE10, that was just ludicrous.

i agree with you as its more realistic. and it also now matters on what goalkeeper you have.

I think by 'dodgy' you mean 'realistic'. In that case, you would be correct

I'd describe the goalkeeping in PES5 as 'dodgy' - making saves using invisible extended arms when they got nowhere near the ball, being blocked from going over the goal-line by magical barries, and drawing footballs into their hands from feet away with super vacuum gloves

Goalkeepers in PES6 are fantastic

Who the hell is Magical Barry?

Anyway, I think the keepers are a pain in the arse, but you can see why they've done it. In PES5 you could easily conduct a whole ML with Ivanov from the default lads in goal, but now you need to buy someone fast if you are a shit team. I've found Tim Howard and Dida to be good so far, and don't touch Paddy Kenny with a 10ft bargepole!

I have some some real bad things from a few keepers when me and my mate have been playing 2 player games, mainly its when you hit a shot and he just parrys it right into open space while the keeper is lying on the floor, its cost me a few goals and straight away you feel like "that wouldnt happen"
i'm not gonna let that get in the way of how good the game is tho, and it does happen few and far between, but when it does you do feel gutted lol however i do like the way the keepers dive now in pes6, it looks like they make some blinding saves on the replays

Gotta agree with you there.

I was playing with Brazil against Italy in a International Cup (World Cup) Semi-Final and Buffon of all people makes a costly mistake.

Cafu crossed the ball in towards Ronaldo, Ronaldo headed the ball towards the centre of the goal, the ball bounces off Buffon's head and the ball trickles over the goal line. :eek:hmy:

This all happened in the 91st minute of normal time. And as you might have guessed, this was the winning goal. :erm:

The way it all happened just wasn't realistic in my opinion.

WARNING - Do not buy Abbiati - he is the worst keeper ever. I was given him in a swap deal on my ML, i now know why he was in a swap deal. He lets in all shots and if a shot is at him he palms it out to the opposition to tap in. Worse still, im in the middle of the season in D1 with next to no points and he is my only keeper. I couldnt buy another in the window. I now need to come 6th or better in the league and win the D1 cup just to avoid game over! p.s - im 9th in the league and 7 points adrift of 6th, then 9pts adrift of 5th and 24pts behind the leaders, Chealsea! Stupid abbiati!!

I have been a huge fan of the Pes series...but must say this is by far the worst defensive tweeking i have ever played in a pro game. Not only are the keepers doddgy but so is the entire defence. If you hit a ball aimed at one of the corners of the goal the keeper will make a fantastic diving save......looks a beauty. But go ahead and hit one slightly off shoulder of keeper and he screws it royally and you have yourself a goal.

Keepers seem tobe over anxious...almost cookie cutter molds...all keepers have the same tendancy.... almost all the goelies ive faced in master or versus....always seem to rush the balls in stupid angles and get beat. It is way to easy to beat the keeper. It also doesnt help that the computer tends to pull the defence away from the grain of play and part ...so when you switch to a player he is running away from the ball.

I must say on the plus....the keepers being so agressive isnt so bad....but conceeding punch outs that turn into goals.... 6 out of 10 times on a straight hit soft lob down the middle...hardly seems realistic....yet you burn one in from 20 out and he catches it like it was a soft toy being tossed at him. And they still havent improved response time of the defence around the goal area..... ive conceeded 8 straight games an own goal where my man runs it in...dont know why as im heading it away and pressing the opposite direction.

Well theres always next year....just might have to go out and buy fifa and keep my self indulged in football. LOL

I gotta stick up for the poor man , I started a ML with Torino and I've found Abbiati to be pretty good , I will replace him eventually when I have enough wonga but he'll do nicely for now !! :)

You have less than 10 posts, but you are talking wise:tongue:
The keepers arent a problem(almost...),but the stupid defence.Ok,I learned to defend,I conceade less,BUT the Cpu is crap at defending,WTF Konami done with the defense AI?!They never clear the ball, the last defenders makes feints in front of his own goal,I run past him,get the ball and score and this is in almost every second match(Top Player). Also somethimes I run forward and the opposition are giving me a corridor?!The "great" AI Konami promised is only for the 360 as it seems, give me PES7 now...

By dodgy I do mean realistic. I watched nearly every Spurs match this year and last and Paul Robinson is a load of bollocks. He wouldn't catch a cold. He's not much better in PES either. I played against David James and he's even worse. I can't say konami got that one wrong.

Who the hell is Magical Barry?

Everyone loves Magical Barry!
His resemblence to Trevor is very uncanny!

The keepers are good, but I think too much effort has been made to esnure mistakes. I like the momentum taking them out for corners etc, but you do get some stupid ones. A corner comes in and their player heads it straight into my keepers hands. He catches it, holds it for a second or so and then drops it inside the packed area  He managed to recover it by diving on the floor, but it was quite shocking to see.

If you want to stop your keeper from running, out set his defence to high. Beleive it or not most keepers are set to medium defence. It did make a difference when I initially tried it.
